Alright Gentlemen, I am back from Salt Lake City from dropping my wife off for her flight back to Seattle. Thusly, a busy month is behind me and I should be able to turn my attention back to the 190 much more. Yet again I find that I need to get caught up on the flurry of activity that has been going on here.

Nathan - Appears you are cranking out the usual fine workmanship we are accustomed to from you. I also appreciate the photo. Thank You.

Junkie - Now that is an excellently done cockpit. You have done a great job on the detail there.

Blackdog - I like what you have done on the supercharger. Nice.

Greg - You have done a fine job on the fins from my perspective. I too recommend Gator Glue for those awkward PE parts. Stuff works well.

Ed - Welcome to the GB. Can't wait for you to get started and show us some of your work.

greg   you may already know this but what I do for small parts is hold them in place with blue tack.

spot glue then then let dry then do the rest.

I was just checking out the completed builds and you guys ROCK!  I was trying to get the courage up and start one of the Dragon, Eduard or Tamiya kits I have.  With the extension of time I think I'll get one or two built.  I must clear some builds of the bench first though.

On Ed's bench, ???

Thanks guys for the nice comments. I was very careful drilling and cleaning those tiny things. It's no fun when that sharp drill bit slips into your fingers, specially under the finger nail!! Crying

Another glue that works well on pe is Aleen's Original Tacky Glue. They make a small package with several grades of tacky glue including a gel type. I picked up one  a while back in Wallyworld.

I might look into getting me some of that glue, Nathan. Now i just have to find a way to get it here in Austria (same as with Solvaset and Mr. Surfacer)

Just google Gator's Grip Clemens and shoot him an email. As far as Mr. Surfacer, check out Model Design Construction? Or how about online shops from Poland?- google super-hobby?

Greg, consider using white glue or "Gator's grip acrylic glue" for tough pe pieces. It holds strong and after you glue the part in place, take a wet cotton bud and swipe away any excess glue. no crappy superglue marks or residue anymore...

Outstanding, thanks Nathan. Never even considered either of those adhesives working with PE, what a great idea! Should help greatly with my positioning mistake issues, too.

Clemens, thanks for your ideas. The collapsible fin is just 2 pieces, yes. Was able to clean up the mess with some careful sanding, which surprised me. So it is going to stay crooked (longitudinally) and I'll know what to do differently next time. :)

PJ, now there is some intricate work! Yikes, nicely done.

Nathan, looking good. As usual, I am in awe of your painting skills on the intricate details.

Supercharger looks good, blackdog.

Nice look Blackdog. I like the metal look and the roughness of the paint looks fine, it actually gives a sense of metal texture. I would leave it. I think you're right on the wash. What I'll do is paint up and wash and weather the gearbays once the model is all together. then as long as I'm slappin on a wash i'll do the exposed engine too. No sense to mix up a wash right now just for the small engine.

I also didn't do a wash because I though it would be to dark and I wanted to stay on the brighter side

dose any body have advise on the wash ? I have to fix some issues' bumpy paint on the super charger maybe not.

Thanks guys!

Nathan

The engine and firewall look great. Yes Those parts take some real patience, specially the supports.Bang Head I didn't want to be cleaning the ab so I brushed the engine parts with different shades of Alclad. The firewall I brushed painted Testors flat black as a primer then dry brushed Acryl RLM 02 over it, getting tone variation. I also removed the two molded wires on the firewall and will replace them with thin electrical wire that I have from my wire stash. The previous picture looks a little too light but it's cuz of the camera flash.

I won't be able to do anything this weekend since the wife and I will be driving down to Ft Lauderdale for my nephew's birthday so I will try to put in some bench time in the meantime.

Ohh nice. Well, it did take alittle finaganling to get the quickboost exhaust installed right...but nothing like the tedious work you did.

Well here's some pics of late. Assembled the engine back and painted the firewall/engine and fuselage interiors:

I managed to drill and open the ends without puncturing or cutting my fingers. My eyes hurt from doing this work so I will continue tomorrow cleaning it out some more with the tip of a #11 blade. Here's what I have so far..

That aint no lie there Nathan! I cheated on my D-9 and let Aires do it for me! Maybe I'll do that on a kit that DOESN'T  have an aftermarket offering. My hat still goes off to you plastickjunkie for tackling that feat.

Thanks guys, glad you 'all  liked the pit and the harness attaching points. Don't like how the yellow tank came out so I'm redoing it. I scribed the straps just a little so it will stand out better after a wash. I'm in the process of hollowing out the exhaust pipes. I'll post pictures after I'm done with that.

Greg: Yep, I made the same mistake (Oil wash over Alclad gloss) on my Tiger 2, but There was a nice layer of Vallejo paint in between and I olny used small amounts of thinner, so it didn't dissolve the clear coat...

I'd try to remove some of the excess superglue, but I don't think it's necessary to remove the whole fin and glue it back on again. It looks straight enough to me. Does the fin consist of 2 parts only? If it does, you could try to break the folded part off just burn the superglue using a lighter. That should remove all of it and you can glue the part in place again...

PlastickJunkie: That's some really nice work on the pit! Sorry for not answering your question. I simply didn't see it. It seems like you figured things out already...

Nathan: Nice work on yours as well! The only area that might need a few touch-ups is where the seatbelts are attached IMO... Thanks for the pic of the belts BTW!

Tackled the collapsing torpedo fin (PE) last night. This is looking straight down the rear end of the torpedo.

Got the two conventional fins on so nice and square and not to CA-messy this one disappointed me. Pondering whether to leave it be or try to redo it.

Question: Does CA remover work after the CA has set for a long time?

After it was too late, realised I should have attached the partial fin to the torpedo first, then positioned and attached the folding part. Instead, I had rather sloppily CA'ed the 2 PE parts together first, and the subsequent assy was awful to try to position correctly.
