Nice job on the cockpit/ firewall area plastickjunkie. That's a good way of displaying the shoulder harness mounting. Great job!!!

Nice work Plasticjunkie. You sure nailed those shoulder straps much better than i did. I'm lucky I still ended up with a cockpit that wasn't thrown out the window, lol! You're making Yellow 10 correct. You're at about the same stage I am. I just finished the engine assembly tonite...race ya....!

Just about done with the pit. I used thin wire bent over a thin drill bit for the shoulder harness attachment points behind the seat. Still need to add a wash or two and some chipping here and there.

And some engine components that I'm still playing with.

Well, had a good 3 hour bench session last night. Got my superglue boo boos fixed and got the pit dry brushed and gloss coated, and the ip is glued in there. Should be doing the wash tonite.

The D11/13 is indeed a very nice kit. Do you know which marking option you are going to build? I am building a D-13 (Yellow 10) and a few other 190s for this GB.

Cheers, Clemens

Since you are building a similar scheme, perhaps you missed my post asking about the demarcation line on the bottom of the fuselage of yellow 10 between the natural metal and RLM76.

Plasticjunkie- what exactly is your question about the demarcation line? The Eduard instructions should be accurate afaik.

Well...........mine are close enough! I learn something new everyday. I didn't get them that far off on either version of what I'm building so I don't feel too terribly bad.

Thanks guys. I learned that when I'm tired at the bench the first thing to suffer is the superglue/pe skills.

Greg- Opps huh? Belts go like this:

Blackdog, thanks for the idea about scribing. I reckon I could have done that now you mention it. A bit late at this point but maybe next time!

John, I'm also excited to watch your D-7 come together. I thought your mottling looked great. Surprised me after seeing the splatter pics you posted a while back.

Nathan, cool cockpit! Been wondering about the shoulder harness placement, guess I did mine wrong. :)

Well, you asked:

I'll have some touch ups for sure. I also knocked off the throttle lever 3 freackin times!! Got the ip assembled and I do miss the ol acetate sheet for dials. I'm not a big fan of eduard pre painted pe panels. the color is always off and looks real pebbly. Hopefully tonite goes a bit better. Simple stuff like glosscoating shouldn't be a problem...

Well, I assembled and painted the cockpit on the D-13 last night, but man, I must have been draggin you know what cause the pe just killed me. Couldn't get the belts positioned right at all. the super glue either didn't wanna set up or it set up in .5 seconds. I don't' like pre-painted stuff cause you have to put it on last, then try and scrape the paint away so the glue doesn't' just stick to the paint, then pull it off when you try and position the part. I was just lucky to end up with a decent looking pit and paint job at the end of the night so I blew off taking pics. I'll have to do that tonight.

I actually can't wait to get in some more mottling practice!Bang Head  Gonna beat this thing yet.  But I am going to practice on a garbage pail model first this time.

I got the office and the fuselage insides as well as the wheel wells painted.  Have to start thinking ahead about the etched metal parts in the canopy.Dead

JOE RIX

Doug - Welcome back old friend. You know Doug I like the fact that you build kits that are not mainstream and that you demonstrate what can be done with them so very well.

John - In my rush to get caught up I forgot to send some well deserved kudos your way for those two excellent 190's you've built. You did a magnificent job on both of them.

Joe,

Thanks, almost done with the 190  A-8,  the snap together 190 A-3 is going to the LHS tonight Toast

I started my next FW190 A-7 for the snake scheme last night. Big Smile

Greg
Abrupt change of subject: So guess what I did? A mineral spirit oil wash on the prop hubs. I forgot I used the Alclad mineral spirit Kleer Slight Gloss on the spinner. This is 3 days after Joe Rix posted a warning about almost the same thing. Sometimes I wonder about me. Luckily, the too heavy coat of Alclad Aqua gloss underneath saved me, and the spinner spiral decal. Whistling

What can I say Greg, sometimes the bend in our learning curves is applied with a hardy blow of a sledgehammer. On the other hand, to have had the Aqua Gloss underneath must mean your living right.

Greg, apply pigments, then dip brush in mineral spirits, then dab around the pastel dust you just applied. That should work as a fixer. Keep pluggin away!

I usually don't spray anything over my pastel applications unless its going to be in a regularly handled area.

Clemens, two resins parts are anti-rotate bars for the torpedo (mysteriously, the other two are styrene), one was a teeny tiny box for inside of one of the office 'walls', one was the throttle, and forgot the other one already. :) Thanks for the confirm that I am working with resin, mate!

On the pastel weathering, I participated in a chat about this elsewhere here the other day. Somebody mentioned 'fixing' the pastel powder with thinner. I've never tried that. So what do you guys do after brushing on pastel powder? I recall from my HO days powdering up a loco so nice, then having it disappear after spraying on some Testors dull coat from a rattle can.

Greg

Joe and Nathan, ok, I think I've got it. Wash the hubs now, while they are still fairly glossy. Flat coat it all, then go from there.

My experience with pastels is pretty limited. I do need to learn how to use them. I recall having them figured out to point of some limited success years ago (HO stuff), don't remember much about them now. Probably will have some questions. Lucky you. :)

Just take some course grit sandpaper and literally sand a little pastel off on the sandpaper. That'll leave you with pastel powder. Just brush it on the model in the area you need with a dry paintbrush and watch what happens!
