Hey, good to see you underway again, Mike!
Did you happen to find out specifically what the problem was with the airbrush? At any rate, I'm happy for you that it's back and working like new again.
I'm with you on that. Wether its silly putty or blu tac they both seem to leave the same nasty residue. Been there/ done that! lol

Thanks! I knocked it out pretty quickly, and I'm hoping the side masks will go just as fast. One annoying thing is that the blutac seems to leave a mark/stain on the paint, so I'll need to touch up over it.

Good stuff Thunder!!! Like the masking!!
Hi guys, my airbrush was returned in today's mail, I assembled her and she's flowing very nicely. So straight away I cut the soft masks for the topside camo and blew on my homebrew RLM 74:
Target for tomorrow -- cut the softmasks for the fuselage and apply the 75, maybe even the 74 as well. After that there'll be some touchup to do, demasking, and change to the fine tip and needle to do the mottle. I'm not sure how quick I can move it along but I'll keep plugging away.

Yes, pics! Only problem is it was almost 1 AM when I finally got the A-5 to look good again, so I just went to bed. Pics will be up when I get home today.
Did you say pics??? Come with em bud!
Great news indeed, Mike!
I got no bench time yesterday, so I'm working on the A-5 now. With a bit of luck she should be ready for some pics tonight and the update should follow after that.
Thunderbolt379 Hi guys, I heard from the service shop, and my airbrush is on its way back, thoroughly cleaned and serviced, with a new air cap, so I should be painting again soon. M/TB379

That's great, Mike!
That is indeed outstanding news Mike. I'm sure you are going to be one happy camper.

Good news! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the build Mike!
Well I just finished repairing the damage on the A-8 and it looks kinda acceptable. I'll get the A-5 done tomorrow and post some pictures as soon ass I'm done with that.
Having so many going at once, it's surprising you don't have more incidents like this!
You'll get it sorted out, mate.
I just wanted to add that the fit of both Hasegawa kits was as perfect as it could get. The fit issues are purely caused by me being too dumb to remember which part belongs to the F-8 and which one goes on the A-5 (they don't even look similar to make this failure even bigger )
Hey guys, I'm truly sorry for not posting yesterday as promised, but I found a mistake after looking at my 190s again. The two Hasegawa 190s looked strange to me for quite a while now and I finally discovered what made them both look "off". I made the (very embarrasing) mistake of glueing the MG cowl of the F-8 on the A-5 and the other way round. This would've been an easy fix if I would've discovered it earlier (right after getting the parts glued to the fuselages), but I didn't, so I had to cut the cowls out very carefully to get them attached on the right 190s. All that cutting resulted in a horrible fit so I'm working on that issue right now. I got the F-8 cover to fit quite well by now and some more persuasion when applying hte glue as well as an extended sanding session combined with a bit of scribing should make it look OK-ish. Th A-5 cover on the other hand isn't as easy to handle however because the part was a bit too small to start with and the sanding I'll have to do won't help much with that problem... I'm confident I can fix it, but I'll need another day or so to scribe/sand them into submission... I'll post a complete update tomorrow at night or Tuesday afternoon...
Thanks so much Gary! I truly appreciate your comments.
That looks great Greg! The paintwork is particularly masterful, the mottling looks spot-on too. I think the underside looks very nice. The weathering looks very realistic to my eyes. All in all, it's a wonderful rendition of the "Butcher Bird". Well-done indeed sir!

"All you mugs need to get busy building, and post pics!"
Thanks for taking the time to comment on this one, Nathan! I really appreciate it a lot.
I am very glad I picked this particular scheme, and I must admit I had some help choosing it from a more experienced modeler (Clemens).....and I'm glad for it. As my third build back, is my favorite exterior by a long shot. Cool it happens to be one of your favorites!
Nathan T See, not that hard is it?

Well, um, if you say so. So many re-sprays of the mottling I was surprised to have had any panel lines left on the sides.
Greg, awesome work! Excellent representation of Walter Wagner's 190. One of my favorite JG 4 machines. I see no seams or other flaws, looks like you tamed that Eduard kit in the end. Nice work. The mottling and airbrushing looks very well done. See, not that hard is it?
Alright! Clemens is getting his photobucket issue cleared up and Mike is going to have a functioning airbrush again. Looking forward to some awesome Butcher Birds going into the final laps.
Thanks Joe.
Greg mustang1989 Oh yeah , another thing....you mugs need to get busy acquiring a 109 kit! Now let's see, .......I could swear I have one of those around here somewhere.............

My fingers crossed for you too, Mike.
When you get it sorted out, I'd surely like to know what was wrong, what repairs were needed.
Hi guys, my AB is at the service firm and I got a phonecall from the technician this morning for a chat about it, so fingers crossed I got the AB back in tip-top condition and can rip into these birds!
Cheers, Mike/TB379
SchattenSpartan I just recieved an email from the Photobucket support and they got my upload issues fixed! I'm not home ATM, but I'll upload the pics as soon as I get back (should be either Friday evening or on Saturday)

That's great! I am starting to get withdrawal symptoms from not seeing any pics from you for so long.
blackdog62 Greg. That is stellar job gratz on the completion on your first edward. How would you rate the edward build ? I also like the paint on this one. I'm sure you told us before but did you free hand or mask. ? Great looking bird.

I don't think I have enough experience to be rating much of anything, mate! The Eduard kit was challenging to me, haven't quite figured out how I managed not to completely botch it up! I guess I can say that it required more thinking ahead and test fitting than I actually did. Maybe next time. It was my first time working with an engine mount like this one, that was probably the worst part for this born again rookie.
The paint was all freehand, except I ended up with a bit of overspray on the wings on closer inspection so I went back and used poster tac for a touch up mask.
I forgot to mention that I was at my lhs yesterday and they had the old monogram panzer l 4 1/32 scale in the original packaging and its new. Wow what step back in time.
Bish. Thanks for the info on the first British bomber shoot down now that I have a battle name I'll look into it a bit more. Maybe come up with a nice 109 to build.
Plus that kind of story is interesting to me.
