John, only just remembered you are doing a G. For that I would go for an RLM 66 pit, the same as the 190. Looks like you have gone for an RLM 02.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Jelliott, glad you joined up! I'm sure you will enjoy the GB.

Raider I Am, looks like few of us 109 first-timers here, cool!

I hear you re the intimidating Luftwaffe schemes. I botched my first one, but the second was and is satisfying. Got all kinds of help here, great learning environment with all the nice folks here.

Thanks Bish,

But I think I need to touch up my interior,  it's too light.  Didn't have any interior 109 information,  I'm still on 190GB paint Surprise

I finally got some time on the last day of my vacation to work on my 1/72 109.

it's at least a start.

John

OOOOOOOOOO, that's better. Now we have a 72nd aircraft, the world can go back to spinning. Thanks for saving us all John. And nice start.

Thanks for the compliments guys. you really are way too kind. Embarrassed

I'm not able to access my computer right now, so I'll keep it short.

Jelliot, I got two big Hasegawa G-6s in my stash and those kits come with decals for one of Hartmann's mounts. I won't be using those decals though because I'll build one of them as a JG 300 aircraft and the other one as Barkhorns machine (the other marking option in the kit). I could send you the decals if you are interested.

BTW, I never built a single 109 before either...

SS I sent you a private message.

On the Bench:  Lots of unfinished projects!  Smile

modelcrazy:Man you're off to a start on that for sure! What schemes are offered for that kit?

The kit offers 2 different Israeli markings and 1 Czech. It's going to be easy as the entire AC is painted in RLM 02, everything except for the office interior which is RLM 66.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Hey very nice work so far..... The wife and I ran away for a while and it took me a while to catch up on all the work done by this Group so far... I did however come home to a box on the table from the postman so my 109 should hit the bench later today

MC -- nice start! I built an Israeli S-199 a few years ago, using Aeromaster decals, and it came out very nicely indeed. It's one of Hobbycraft's better tools.

I made a start today after wrapping my last two tanks and officially ending my 2014 tally. I opened the Airfix E-4 and Hobbycraft -D, and am working on cockpits and wings, my usual 109 starting subassemblies. I'm aiming to paint the cockpits in the morning, along with gear legs, doors and bays, all in 02. I'm not exactly production-lining these two, but back-to-back builds looks doable, especially as the Hobbycraft 48th scale is at about the same level of complexity as the Airfix new-tool 72.

Here's tonight's work on the Avia.

The office was a little sparse so I added some detail to the instrument panel (left over PE from my P-26 build) and added the belts.

Mustang - Thanks for the welcome, the more I read the posts here and the helpful people on this thread. The more excited I got about the build.  Looking forward to jumping in the deep end of the pool on this one!.

Panzer - That is exactly what I think as well.   I've got my son working on a 1/48 Huey Hog right now.  Letting him paint it and put it together.  Using non-toxic glue and acrylics until he can get the hang of using glues.  Excited to see for him to see him complete it.

Okay, okay, okay.  I am going to throw my hat into this build as well.  I will enter the build with the 1/32 Revell Bf-109G-6.  Probably going to look to see if I can get my hands on some markings for the Erich Hartman Bf-109G-6.

Awesome! Yes, this is far better than Xbox. The way I look at it is you've got something to show for the time as well. Hartmann 109 decals are readily available. Eagle editions has a nice set.

Jelliott, this will be my first 109 as well. We can learn together.

My fist 109 too. My first Luftwaffe aircraft, period. Been intimidated by their paint schemes for a while. Time to give it a shot. Yes

Your cockpit is looking great panzer.

Heck I have never built a Bf 109 either.  I am back to modeling as well.  Took a 6 year break due to having kids and being involved in RC naval combat.  And before that had a 2-3 years of building armor.  Before that heck it was when I would just glue them together when I was just a kid.  So about 20 years before armor.

Just have to finish my Bf 110 and start on this great GB.

I'm really impressed and glad to see that I am not the only one returning to this hobby after such a long hiatus.  I am really enjoying getting back into things and have even started my 9-year old son with kits of his own, trying to see if I can get the younger generation interested in this rather than sitting behind an Xbox all day.

Tom... Nice work! Very realistic looking! I'm just starting the office, and hope it comes out as good.

Jelliott... No problem Bud... Happens a lot here and always glad to have you back! I've been building for about 50 years, and never stopped but did slow WAYYY down. I really got back into it big time about 10/15 yrs ago, and about 4 yrs ago got in with this lot and I'll just save you the time wondering... No finer bunch of guys and on occasion gals anywhere. Throw in when ever, and questions  are welcome!

Thanks. It's some old Pollyscale RLM02 I had laying around. I shot it right from the bottle over a black preshade. It a bit darker away from the light. Just one of those color variations that RLM can have. Yes

The cockpit is almost complete. I still need to put in the belts and the gun sight (which I like to wait until later to do because of the carpet monster.) I'll finish the fuselage sides and put the halves together now. The hard part is over..whew. So far I am impressed with this kit. The detail is great and the fit has been fantastic so far. Thanks for having a look...

Dang Tom you didn't waste any time did you? This looks awesome!! I've never seen a 109 pit in tan before but it looks great!

I have never built a the 109 before in any scale.  I have always liked this aircraft.  Once I get it and get started I may ask some questions.

When you're ready just ask away jelliott! We'll be here waiting! Big Smile

Jelliott... Never built a 109 Tongue Tied Indifferent??? Mustang, SS... Get this man signed up quickly! We may not be too late yet!!! LOLOL... Just kidding, Question away... loads of talented and helpful folks here.

Thanks Rigid!  Yep, I have to admit, I've never built a 109.  To be honest, I've never built anything other than US aircraft.  I know, I know, I am limiting myself.  However, to clarify, since I have just got back into this hobby after a long hiatus, I am expanding my horizons.  I'm actually looking forward to getting my hands on the 1/32 Bf-109G-G!  I've decided to "Go big, or go home!"

I can definitely tell right now that I will have lots of questions regarding the best RLM paints.  I've been looking around and see that there are several different producers.  I'm not 100% acrylic or 100% enamel.  I'll use whatever.

Tom, ye, that idea of adding a touch of blue sounds good. I think it might be worth doing a bit of testing first. Going to be a while before I get to painting mine anyway.

Duke, be looking forward to seeing what you come up with.

Tom, I believe that would work just fine. The DB engines do have a slight (even through the black appearance)  Blue/Gray (however dark) hue to them.

Hey guys! I'm kinda getting a late start. First I've been sick as a dog since last week. I have not felt up to doing nothing. Secondly, I am woefully unprepared. I realized I did not have all the correct paint that I need. Such as all the correct RLM paint. Finally, due to the nature of my job which is seasonal. I find I have lack of funds to purchase the needed paint. So my progress will be slow for the time being.  At least I have a small, simple kit that does not require an extreme amount of time.  I find the progress and the information very useful and interesting.  Thank you.
