What is that lever on the right side for? Was that to elevate the barrel?

As far as I can tell, yes. The instruction were a little unclear to what it was for, but it looks like the ropes connected to the rear of the barrel run though some openings in a rod that the lever is connected to. I guess when you pull on the leaver, it twists the rope around the rod, pulling it down, or holding it down. There is also a block of wood used to elevate the barrel at the back.
In all the pictures I saw, the ropes were connected to a block attached to the wall of the ship. I suppose in that case these ropes were used to keep the cannon from rolling away during firing, or when the ship rolled at sea.

Thanks guys, this was my first attempt at making wood. I kinda cringed a little while I was scrapping the plastic with the Xacto blade thinking I ruined it. I still need to learn a good method of painting woodgrain, but for this instance, rough hune wood, it works.
Like I said, it was a fun kit and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for something that needs little improvement with without breaking the bank, or getting too involved.

I will be on vacation the end of this week July 4-11. I will be checking in with my phone during my time away.

I also have some happy news, We have accepted an offer on our house and will be moving (assuming everything goes through fine) to a new home at the end of July. I will be available on the forum during that time, however I will need to pack up my builds for a week or two . I should be back up and running the first part of August. I am going to try to finish the builds I have in process, but won't be starting new any until then.

Just got an email that my new airbrush is on the truck zooming it's way here so hopefully I can get to the colour modulation on the B-4 this weekend.

Hey, that's nice. Grex, never heard of them, but I'm no AB expert. Let us know how you like it.

My current airbrush is an earlier model Grex, I kinda messed it up after soaking it in a mild solvent overnight and dissolving the inner seals! It still works but the paint trickles back up inside the brush and is a bit of a bear to clean. I found the head of the brush dinged up the other day and after looking at the improvements they've made to the model I have just decided to order another. Looking forward to my first test drive!

Well, a part of the gun elevating hardware broke off earlier and though I put it with the kit it's now vanished. Still I went ahead and did the pre-shading on the gun this weekend. Looked all over for the part and didn't find it, hopefully it will show.

The new airbrush worked great, I was able to get in and do some really fine detail work without any problems.

Guys I've been out of commission for a bit and had to lay low on the smaller 1/72 stuff and I finally got my uplinks squared away and started on a Trumpeter Karl Morser in 1/35. There are over 1200 parts in the kit and I spent some time going through the parts and booklet so I think I'll start with the carriers and got a little work started. These are the side rails with springs and brakes, I'll get more photos later but I've never seen a more beautiful box of plastic...I'm about 90% completed on the 1/72 Karl and mid way through the diorama that I'll get done when I'm feeling better.

Ive never seen so much plastic, so as I go through it separating carriages from gun and still can't believe how many parts there are. Really looking forward to this one.

OK guys, I'm back home from vacation and back on the forum as usual. My wife and I are moving at the end of July, so I have packed up all the stash (thank goodness it still relatively small) and builds until the first part of Aug.

Nice thing is, I'll actually have my workbench back. I have been working on a TV tray for 3 years. At least I've learned space management, but that's not going to matter. once I start spreading out it will be a mess again.

I found the missing part on the B-4 and finished the pre-shading. But now I notice a big runny gob of paint on one of the transport wheels. I'm going to have to sand it out and repaint over it. Yes, I'm still in this- just being held up by a thousand tiny issues...

Making some headway on these Karl Morser carriages, lots of parts, lots of time but alls going well.

That thing was so stinkin heavy it had to have all those wheels.

Main assembly of the carriages is complete and primed. On the wheels, I went for a used look by mixing Mig Standard Rust wash and Mig Old Rust until I got the right color. Once applied and dried, I wet my finger and rubbed down the color to show some wear and I think it turned out okay. I painted the shiny rims with Vallejo Steel, but I still need to take it down around the inner edge to just show the areas that come in contact with the rails.

The rusty look on the wheels looks great. Gee-friggin-whiz I thought tanks had bunches of road wheels- never considered doing something like this!

wheels turned out nicely. i use red brown for the old rust and than take either Tamiya dark rust powder or "make my own: pastel and scrub it in with a stubby stiff brush. tones down any shine.

i need to get back on my K-5. been a while and i have a local contest in October

Yes, yes Wayne, the K5. I can't wait to see that behemoth.

Wayne I sort of did the same thing by mixing Mig Standard Rust and Mig Old Rust. The Standard is oil based and when mixed with the pigment makes a nice wash. I used my finger to take some of it off and tone it down.

The K5 is the one i'm looking forward too.

Cheers all - been awhile since I built/posted anything, moved to NJ, new job, setting up new work area/mancave.  Will airborne assault vehicles qualify for this GB? Most of my stash still in long term storage, but I had pulled an ASU-57 (Maquette) and ASU-85 (Trumpeter) off my shelves a few years ago but never started them (or barely, cant even remember.... )
