Yup, I have broken into the M20, it has a full interior-albeit not as good as one that you might want-you can always upgrade with AM parts, but I am going out of the box style

Gnsnow, I have not read the Tanks in Detail book, but I did see it in the store and flipped throught it. From what I saw, most of the pictures can be found on the AFV interiors site. Here is the link, just in case you have not been there yetWink [;)]:

Well they say once you have gone over to the dark side you never go back. I know that I have a wingy thingy in the works but it may end up like the other wingy things i started,, unbuilt and on the shelf with that sad puppy dog look saying finish me please!!!!!!! But alas the dark side wont let go of me and I am drawn back to Armour and all things grounded.

Interesting that padawan has felt the power of the darkside.

Anyone read the new Tanks in Detail on the SdKfz 250?

I wish everyone, who wants in to tell me by May 20th. You can start anytime after April 4th. I believe that the finalized criteria are somewhat like this-found on the first post on the first page. You can have armoured cars, trucks, military vehicles-jeeps/kubles/humvees, halftracks, and wreckers-just the vehicle part for the build, but not the trailer-you can build that to if you want to. Display is anyway you want. Any size, or era is good with me. We will wait for you to finish the other builds-I am also involved in M1, but not the towed group-although I have a 25pdr in the works right now. Just let me know, I think you have, and you will be a part of the build.

Padawan! Welcome to the Dark Side Forum! Hope you learn a lot from this build! FYI, I built the Italeri M8-you probably know that it is an M20 with a 37mm gun turret. I am not sure if Italeri makes this kit-they probably do--but I found it an awesome build for the M8, and I have no reason why an M20 would be any harder. I will be doin Tamiya's M20, but I have heard that the wheels are a bit oversized. I might scrap the M8-it was my first build, and half is broken-the axles, I want the correct scale wheels off of it.
The Tamiya kit looks nice and clean, with no readily aparent errors on it.
Welcome!

I'm in. I'm new, so i'll say giday to you all, but i'm looking forward to learning from you in this group build.
I think i'll also build an American M20 in 1/35th scale. What's the general feeling about the two kits, tamiya and italeri?

Beav, did you say you want everyone to start this by May 20th?
Just curious. I want to be a part of this, but I don't know if that timeframe will allow me to join. I hope I manage to get the towed gun done by then.
So have you finalized any criteria regarding vehicle type, or anything like that?

gnsnow,

I have built the Greif out of the box, but am detailing a similar kit, so I will go through my references tonight to see what stands out.
Here is a start. I found some of this really useful, and there is buckets on the 250/3

http://afvinteriors.hobbyvista.com/250/250a.html

Basic stuff like thinning fenders etc all are useful with this kit, but it does build up nice.

I already cleaned the wheels before this GB was announced, but I shelved it for about a year after that.

Now that there are some halftrack experts massed here, what tweaks/modifications should I make to my kit (aside from the radio) to make it more accurate. I'm not afraid of difficult tasks. BTW - I'm building the old (No.113) Tamiya Sd.Kfz. 250/3 "Greif" kit.

hahahaha, just can't wait. I almost started building my kit-i picked it off the shelf, and opened up all the bags, and almost started choping pieces out-but then i realized-this was my GB project. I though, gee, i am dumb, so i put it away, and picked an artillery piece off(not doing that GB) and started on that instead. lol
just keep waitin, just keep waiten

Well gang as I said in the Sherman Group Build I tried alot of things there that I dont think I would have normally tried but because of the amount off knowledge that was available to me in that build my Sherman turned out great(at least in my opinion). Getting ideas and techniques from other modelers is what this group build and forum are all about. Now you guys have me wishing it was april 1st.

Now, this is what a group build does best! If I get to my hobby shop soon, maybe I could do a 222/223...lol it all depends. my M20 has gotta finish up nice!

I wouldn't mind some motivation to build that best Faun, but I'm in the M1 BG, then after that it's the towed gun build, so it all depends on when this thing would start.
Also, what about the SAM transporter.

Matt,, edog,, Sounds like we might have a small group build within a group build hehehe. anyhow I wasn't planning on doing an interior for my 222 but now listening to you guys I think I might have to give it a try. never done an interior before, but since on the Sherman group build I tried a lot of new things, I figure why should this build be any different. When I get home tonight I will check out those sites and see what they have. Look forward to exchanging info with both of you.

well.... Its still PE but you could try an Aber grill. Here is their site if you want to check it out:

http://www.aber.net.pl/ramka_aber_ang.html

Part number S24 looks about as close as you may be able to get. You will still have to do some hacking though. Good luck on finding something.

Thanks for the link Edog.

I haven't tried photoetched parts yet, because I find them a bit hard to get. I liked the look of that set, but it sort of only half solves the screen problem; still wrong pattern, and you still have to hack into the model!

Still I might see if it is available here in Oz.

Phroosh, I am not doing an engine. I actually figured that building the body would not be that hard, but we will have to see. As far as the PE set, check out Eduards site:

http://www.eduard.cz/

If you follow the Products link, then under Photo Etched Set click on the Armored Fighting Vehicles link. The PE set for the 223 is on page 81. Once you find it, you can see pictures of the PE sheets that are included and read the actual instructions. I often use this and Abers site for reference for my own scratch building. SHHHHHHH, don’t tell them that.Wink [;)]

Definitely! Know what you mean about the body; especially when you want to build an interior! Still I promised myself that I wouldn't go down the complete scratchbuilding road. Does the PE set contain much stuff? Do they offer a replacement for screen behind the turret? That is the bit that I am most in a twist about. Are you doing an engine?

I built Italeri's M8, awesome kit, went together nicely-but I botched it due to the fact that it was my first kit. The wheels, are the correct size I believe, and Tamiya's are to large for scale. That would be awesome, if we could get "brother" or maybe its more like "cousin" vehicles for some of the builds! I myself, am doing the M20-a modified M8-that doesn't have that weird little turret with a dinky 37mm, that was designed as an anti-tank weapon-go figure..

If you do the 222, we can trade info/problems, Rich, as they are virtually the same.
I have dug up some good references. I like the M8 too, though, lots of AM available.

Well Beav since you mentioned you were doing a armoured car,, I think I will join your group build and do the M8 Armoured Car or if that has been chosen already the sd.kfz 222. Heck depending on how quickly it gets done maybe I will do both.

Anyhow let me know.

Good point. He is newish to modelling, he is just making his way through his first kit, so was looking for something small and easy, I think. I will get him to post what he is after/thinking!
