ARMOR - Small AFV Group Build, all scales done

Thanks, you two(dwight, and you) are really awesome for doing all this for our little motivational/AFV build!

I can handle the web site thing easy enough. I'll try to get that set up today or tommorow and post an address and email to send submissions to.

I think that I should add a list of what everyone is going to build-or possibly build, or is planing to...right behind their name-in liu of the fact that we don't have a websight-and I only have basic HTML coding knowledge

Thanks Edog,,,,, After hunting hi and low for a pic of the 222 I found a drawing of one and I will be danged. Great eagle eyes there edog. If you hadn't of pointed it out I would have never been the wiser thats for sure. If you could send that template out that would be great. I think I am going to try and remove that particular section of the turret and piece in the proper shaped piece. Well I haven't even began the build and already I am trying something new.

I think that it would be in everyone's best interest if you created a weblink for our GB, Lizardqing2, that would really help us be able to display our work.
I started today on my M20, and after it is created, I would like to admit a hummer avenger into the build-maybe on a pic background of Washington DC-there were some of those there last year.
I would also like to say WELCOME to Spector82202, and LSyd, + the formidable Lizardqueen(top dog over Lizardqing of course)
I hope, that a badge might have a profile of a jeep-as I to agree that it is extremely recognizeable.

Ok, here is a quick diagram done in paint. The dimensions are not correct, but you can get the idea. The top is how the turret should be, and the bottom is how the turret is on the Tamiya kit.



If you guys want, I can see if i can make a template for fabricating a new turret.


As far as the wall thickness problem, I think I have solved it. I am planning on leaving the doors open on the Sdkfz 222 to show of the interior, but the thickness of the Tamiya plastic was bugging me. I had initially planned to remake the entire body of the vehicle, BUT check this out. I stuck some sheet stock to the side of the kit with double sided tape, and trimmed around the edges. This gave me the plastic mock-ups of the wall, that will replace the kit parts. Oh, I used .04mm stock but the scaled down version should actually be .022mm. Anyway, I trimmed the walls of the bottom of the frame off the kit, as you can see in the picture. I left the engine compartment walls on to allow for a good section to glue to. Now, once put together, you will not be able to tell that the walls are thicker in spots.



For now the project is on hold because I had purchased the old Eduard set a while ago, but I just looked at the instructions for the new set and WOW!! What a difference. Plus, I need to get some tread plate for the bottom of the interior.


Oh, and Dwight, if it is not too late, I would suggest making a badge with a jeep for the small AFV build. The jeep is small, tough and the outline is instantly recognizable. Well, it was just a thought... I am sure that no matter what you come up with, it will be great.

beav,,, Thanks for moving the start date up!! Of course I didn't see the change till this afternoon,, now I am a day behind all of you.. After I finish the 222 I will being doing a dio of a M8. Have the Interior/Ext. kit from Verlindan on order at the LHS. Have had this idea running thru my head now for over a year now and I think it is time to put it in motion. Can you add my name to the first page list??? I feel left out.

i opened the box last night, and started fabricating the body of the kit out of sheet styrene. I noticed a problem with the turret. IT IS THE WRONG SHAPE!!! just thought you guys may want to know. check it out, and if need be, i can explain more.

count me in, although i won't be able to get to work until Mid-May at the earliest.

i'm planning on a 1:35 German or Soviet armored car or maybe some truck or other civy if i can get a kit of that.

i'll probably do the TWK/Start BA-20M Armored Car i got in a cheap lot of soviet armor off of ebay today, pending there's no crazy problems with it; anyone know anything about this kit?

I just got my report card which got me a free trip to the LHS and I picked up Tamiya's SAS commando jeep, I'll be doing that.

I'm also doing a Demag w/ neb 42 for the Towed gun gb and I guess that counts for this one too.

Do they make an ABER PE set for the Kubel ? If the answer is no , then the tweezers stay on the bench where they belong ! When is the start date here ?

Allright, she said she is on with the M20. She has barley started on it so good timing with this. Both of mine are started as well, but with the other stuff I have going, probally could stretch it out for a while. If no one has brought up getting together a web site for the stuff I could throw one together either as a page on my site or set up another one entirely. Let me know if y'all would like that.

This would be a tricky one to do, too. Small AFV is a very generic term you know but well give this beaver some time. He-he-he.

BTW, I said that I'll be doing a willy's mb with a trailer but I changed my mind. Sherm gifted me with an amphibious truck and I'll be doing that one. I'll be starting later though as I still need to finish my 88 for the towed gun gb.

Thanks Beav, I'm not sure that's what I want to do, but I'm leaning to it. Always wanted to build one. Dwight is going to be one busy beaver, having to do all these group badges. Oh...no pun intended.

I vote you're in Andy. These builds are about motivating people tobuild or finish an old kit as well!

Mourningstar on Scorn's computer agin, well I was woundering?, Scorn has a M-977 Hemmit sitting on a shelf and I have the Dragon Wagon. would either or both of them be eligable for the group build? The sped at which he does his model's he could probly have it done somewhere in like a two week time frame. The Dragon Wagon of mine one the other hand would take a little longer.(dang 600+ pieces). If either of them would qualify, I might be able to talk him into doing that one next, seeing as how he just finished his M1A1,(except for a few smaller details) Let me know what you think Beav, and I'll talk to him.

Allright guys, go ahead and count me in. Through the nudgeing of a couple of other members I will try to finishe the kettenkrap (oops did i put that) motorcycle. Also could throw in my half-track with quad 50's that is about half built right now. Somehow I'll fit building those in with finishing up a Sherman, building a M113 and a rather large fireturck. i will try to convince my wife to jump in with the M20 armored car that she has and may be she can finishe up her British quad truck as well.

I'm planning to start next week when I get back in town, but I can't promise much through April, school is giving me a major butt whooping right now - I'll make time for the build though, I always seem to be able to do that.
