Thanks Bish, hope this one goes smoothly.

Don't think I've ever browsed HobbyPlaza - where they situated?  This particular FineMolds kit was orderded from PlazaJapan.com

regards,

Jack

Ye, same site, it just comes up on my favorites list as Hobby Plaza for some reason. Tempestjohnny put me on to them for the FM Me 410 kits. They have a nice selection of the 109's as well.

Doug: Got your entry in on the intro post..............YIKES!! Sorry I hadn't gotten it there sooner!! Your progress is looking fantastic. Looking forward to seeing how you figure out the nose of that Ju-88. Even at 1/72 a Mistel outta look fairly big. I've got a Dragon 1/48 Ju-88/ Fw190 Mistel Combo and that thing is a monster!!!

Jack: Certainly good to see you in here with that Fine Molds kit!!! Will be watchin' that beauty come together.

Finally found my way back to the bench and cut a few sprues, but no actual update yet.  In the meantime, here is a shot of the box contents and some extras:

The canopy masks are designed for AZ Models, but hopefully they will be of some use on this Finemolds kit.  The pair of resin pilots were intended for future projects, but will likely use one to replace the chunky injected mold.  Also, good thing the kit provides a spiral decal, as the aftermarket schemes set do not provide any at all.

Jack

The ones that have it are trainers. The bottom part was piloted and allowed the fighter pilot to practice.

On the operational ones the pit was removed completly and the warhead put in its place.

Hey Bish... Im playing with it at this time. I noted in the pictures I've seen, some have and some are missing and covered over. Right now I've turned it around and am looking at it to fill in the gap in ith cowling.

Afternoon all! Got a bit more done today...

Like I said, not alot too these micro kits...

OK, I'm toying with the idea of using this engine cowling from a 48th scale JU88 but I need to see if I can adapt it for the explosive head. Need to put a few other items together with it.

More later...

smeosky: The Fw190 D series are among my favorites of all German aircraft. They were sleek, fast and packed a nasty punch in the way of armament. They IMO were the true hot rods of the sky and looked the part. Awesome progress on that mount bud. Yes

rocker: Hate to hear about your fit issues with your 262 but see that you are attentive to detail and seem to be patient. Looking very much forward to the outcome.

Doug: That UFO (Hannebau) gives one helluva twist on German engineering don't it? Can't wait to see that Mistel..........

everyone: Thanks for the good word on the progress fellas. I managed to finish the cockpit tub and am now working on the side panels. After that I'll be working on the glass enclosure, which is a real PIA on this kit. Any ways, here's the completed tub:

Joe... That cockpit is just phenominal! Absolutely beautiful...

Well... Got started today on my Mistrel. Not a whole lot to these 72 scale kits, so I imagine more paint and such then build... Any way, Heres what I have so far...

The two kits I'll be using...

Guess we'll start with the "Goes Boom" portion.

Like I said, not too much to them so far... More in a bit!

Andy... A few years ago, someone told me the Germans were building a UFO aircraft... Yeah, I thought... Until I saw a picture of the one they were building. Hey... go figure. The Mistel was pretty much a last ditch effort to slow the allied advances since they had tons of war weary aircraft but no pilots. they would be packed full of explosives and capped with various types of detenatiors depending on what was being attacked... Actually very few were ever used and successful drops were questionable. It was an odd concept though...

Andy, in your defence, i don't think they are that well known or well covered. I would guess most people seing them would think they were fantasy builds and never imagine they were actually used.

Yeah, it's interesting to see that they actually had different variants of it depending on the configuration of the piloted aircraft and the "bomb".

Joe, Andy... Give me a day or so to clear and reorginize my bench and I'll get going on my "Mistel" build.

The Goes boom, is a Revell (rog) Ju88 , and the "Totes boom" is a SMER Me262. Both are 1\72nd scale, and I'm pretty sure I have what I need in my spare parts to make it happen. Thanks guys... Back in a bit...

Doug

Can't wait for this one...gonna be so cool! I must make a WWII history buff confession though...I didn't know what a "Mistel" even was until you said you were doing one and I quickly searched it...I'm so ashamedEmbarrassed lol. But thanks to you I learned something new.Yes

Looking forward to that Doug. I take it your scratch building the supports.

yYup... Been looking pictures over and have noted several different ways of mounting supports, nose pieces on the explosive vehicle, and ways of mounting the delivery aircraft. I think I can come up with something convincing. LOL...

Thanks Rooster!

Bish- thanks for the info! It wouldn't hurt to have another one of these birds in my stash, maybe I'll check the local hobby shop for one!

Work has continued on my 262, and I ran into a bit of trouble while attempting to attach the wings to the fuselage. It turns out the gear bays (which are molded into the wings) protrude so far into the fuselage that they push against the bottom of the cockpit tubs and prevent a good fit. I (not thinking) thought the problem might be a poor fit at the wing roots..so after considerable sanding and only marginal results...I FINALLY got the idea that PERHAPS there was some other issue. Well, after all of that sanding I had to do quite a bit of filling. But, the wings are on now. The nose seems heavy enough. I stood the jet up on toothpicks that I placed in the slots where the landing gear go and it didn't fall back on it's tail. so I don't think I have to worry about any additional weight for the moment. Tomorrow, I'll work on the engines!

rocker, there are a couple of those 2 seat 262's out at the moment. The one Doug built was an older Revcell kit. But they did the new one that PJ mentioned and Trumpeter have one as well.
