The 2017/ 2018 Too Little Too Late Group Build

I just got that 262 and is a beauty. That thing is super built OOB. The plastic antennas look as good as pe ones.

 Well folks, I'm FINALLY done with my Brummbar and it's diorama...which means I can start on my Me262 now! So far, all I've done is wash the part trees off - but I'm hoping to get it started this weekend. It'll be a pretty straight forward build, no aftermarket parts just out of the box.

Ok so I finally finished this model. It was a very easy and simple model to make if done OOB. I have the Dragon 1/48 in the stash but will look for another 1/32 but that one will be mostly OOB and the engine closed up in the clam shells. Wiring that sucker was a chore to say the least.

I added little details like the scratch made canopy locking lugs made from electrical copper wire and attached with Aleenes. The clam shell doors got the pe locking tabs along with pe Revi gunsight, resin pit, engine and cannon bays. Cannon barrels are resin. Double click on the pictures for extreme closups.

Closeup of locking lugs. I also used a circle template and a sharp needle to deepen the round small window then used a dark wash to darken the scribing.

The Salamander is fairly clean because they had about 2 weeks or so of actual combat and flew just a few hours. It arrived too late to the conflict to see any significant action but the 162 did manage to shoot down two British fighters.

The Smer kit of the 262 looks to have it's origins from the Heller kit of 1974, or that's at least what I see on the Scalemates timeline?

Well, at the late stage of the war anything went so it looks like a good combo Doug.

I smile at the "high tech" caption like the one in the Monogram "HighTech" Kingfisher. They called it that cuz it brought a tiny pe fret.  

I' have heard of them before, Hannants sells them. Not sure what the Hi Tech refers to as they have none Hi Tech kits that have PE and the price is all about the same. These are the 4 262's of theres on the Hannants site.

And surprisingly, the Me262 kit is a SMER HiTech, I'd never heard of before, that was given to me, and its a darn nice looking little ole kit, and even has a PE sheet for the office! Joe / Andy ...Thinking ahead to the next... If you agree, I'm pretty sure a Mistel would qualify as a Too Little, Too Late build. Now , heres where it gets complicated (lol) , If you would allow a little artistic freedom, I have found no pictures showing an Me 262 / Ju 88 pairing, I found a Salamander / 262, and a 262/262 pairing but thats it. My thought is that I have 2 (Dare I say it) 72nd scale kits (Can't believe I said that) , 1 a Me262 and 1 a Ju88 and would like to try a Mistel pairing. If OK with you, let me know and I will relay the perticulars and start when other commitments are satisfied. Thanks guys!

This should be fun. At least you don't need to worry about much detail in the 88. But no excuses for the 262

Thanks Joe for the nice words. I'm still adding little details here and there and will have some pictures up soon. These tiny details are very time consuming but well worth the effort specially in this scale where things are more visible.

I ran into this piece on Youtube and is very interesting but kind of long. He details his life which is very interesting and has some great comments in there. The Salamander was credited with 2 kills over British aircarft. He starts answering questions about the 162 at 36:50.

Bish: You are the master of 1/72 nd scale aircraft!!! Your build and the diorama turned out beautifully. Good detail and paint are at a premium on that 162. One of these days I promise ..............I'm going to try my hand at a diorama.

Ernie: Tha details!!!!!!!!! Good grief that engine detail looks fantastic!! I swear the AM guys are getting better and better every year. Very nice 32nd scale replication you've got going here buddy!!

Doug: You know, I don't know how you can dive into a build and finish it in like..........lightening speed and turn out the results that you do. Just splendid work on this beauty of an aircraft. Totally blowing my mind with that paint job dude!

Andy: The Fw 190 line up are my favorites when it comes to aircraft and I always like seeing one built up nicely like this. Detail, paint work and weathering are all at a premium on this build. You really know how to make 'em look man. Great work!!!! Additionally, I'd like to thank you for your help with the GB. You're awesome pal.

Everyone: Glad to be back in town after a long weekend. Had a function to attend in Dallas with our son and spent all week long prepping and all weekend long driving. lol. I was one worn out puppy after that week I can tell ya that!!! This is turning out to be one helluva GB! The work turned out here is among the best I've seen. Looking forward to more and will post updates within the next day or so.

Great job Andy, and yep, that white wash came out really well. Just a subtle hint of the darker colours underneath. Really nice.
