Outstanding looking Salamander Bish. You are so right about keeping these fairly clean cause of their very short service. Beer

Been dragging my feet on this, but i am close and want to finish these up. So a short update before wrapping this up.

So, after painting and a gloss coat, i added the decals then a litle flory wash. Keeping these clean given their very short service life. For the Dragon kit i just used the kit decals.

Not much left to do. But i also nee to sort out some figures and a ladder to get to the engine, so hopefully will be done in a couple of days.

I've been bad in keeping up with this group build.  I've made a lot of progress on the Me163 ( I know, I know:  Pics or it didn't happen). The cockpit has been assembled, though there wasn't much to it.  Working on the engine now.  I will post some pics.  New puppies and an L-39 flight (Bucket list item #1) got in the way.  That and other inane excuses.

Well just got a sorry email from ROG saying it's OOP. Looks like I will end up buying AM ones afterall. I'm still looking for them.

I've been absent for a while while waiting for my replacement decals from ROG.

Rooster and maw both builds are looking great, I like how the paint came out on both.

I've been away for a bit, and I'm impressed with all the great work. Andy, I think your painted markings look pretty good, much better than when I tried it on a Stuka I built a few years ago...

Andy, I think the decals look fine. After working 20+ years in military aviation I can say that an aircrafts appearance doesn't always look like a nice, pretty picture. Especially airlifters!

Maw, the paint work and decals look awesome! Very nice work!

I've got an update as well. After having one of the side cross decals get ruined I decided to make a mask using the remaining one and just paint them on. They didn't come out perfect but knowing I was going to do some overspray like the picture of the real thing shows I knew I could cover any flawsBig Smile Rest of the decals went down nicely and I was able to get the landing gear and prop attached. Hopefully I'll hit this with a clear coat and start weathering this weekend. Comments and critques welcome!

smeosky: Man you just can't go wrong with a D-9. That's probably my most favorite aircraft from WWII. Beautiful pit you've got going there!

Handi: As I said earlier in the GB, I've got one of these in my stash and I just cant get over how much detail is in that kit. What else I couldn't get over was the price but hey, you get what you pay for with this kit. I don't think ZM left anything out. Spendid progress on this one buddy. Yes

mawright: Progress is coming along nicely. Can't wait to see this one come together!

Bish: All of you guys are building at lightening speed!! So far she looks good Bish.

Andy: That paint work!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is looking spectacular!!

Everybody: I cut the side panels from the resin mounting blocks. This stuff is super thin so cutting it from them was a slow process to avoid breaking the dang things. Looks like everything is fitting here so far:

and still mates up to the fuselage as good as I've ever seen from an Aires set

Well guess what??? Got the Salamander ready for decals all glossed up and the decals are nowhere to be found. They evaporated into thin air. I have spent the last 2 days looking for them and have looked everywhere except under the house foundation!

Hopefully I will get a replacement from Revell so now to wait for them.

I was able to start on the decaling today but unfortunetly I ruined one of the black crosses for the fuselage so I'll have to get a replacement before I can finish this one.

rooster513

Quick update here. Was able to get the whitewash sprayed last night. I thinned some MM white and shot it as low psi. I'm not completely happy with how it turned out. I think I may have given it too much overall coverage instead of leaving more of the camo showing through like the picture shows. Last picture is a shot of the underside showing the yellow "V".

The fuselage band does have a small ridge where the tape was. I put on fairly light coats so I don't think it was that. I may not have had the edges burnished down enough. I'll have to hit it lightly with some fine sand paper to smooth it out. Hopefully I'll be able to get a gloss coat on this weekend.

Thanks for looking!

Andy you can always take some steel wool or very fine sandpaper and knock some of the wash off the spots you want.

mawright20, mottling looks fine - it really depends on your particular reference.  Personally, I would enllarge some of them like you have on the forward end.
