The AZ 109's are very nice with finely molded details but they require a bit of patience during the build process.  The end result however is well worth the effort put in to it!  Same with the FM kits.  I'll be following this one for sure!

As far as I can tell, this asymmetrical shape was characteristic of Erla built machies, introduced with the G-10?

As far as full kits go, only Revell's recent 109 G-10 in 1/32 has this type - the first and only in any scale.   In 1/72, Loon Models did a resin conversion;

Ye, i saw the Revell 32nd kit last week at our model club, done in a really nice 81/82 scheme with NMF lower wings I saw that and knew i wanted to do one in 72nd so been looking at the Revell 72nd and Loon conversion. Given the amount of 109's AZ has, i was surprised to see none hav ethe 110 cowling. But i like those all over 76 109's as well and H-Model has a nice selection including some standard G-6's.

Be interesting to see how that comes up.I have been looking at those AZ kits, they have a big selection of 109's, but was not sure how they build and woundered if you might have been useing one of theirs.

I'll check out that link as well. I take it the FM kit doesn't have the 110 cowling.

hello Bish, it will be Finemold's 109G-10.

I'm going with 72nd scale,  and like my last 109 build, I'll be challenging myself yet again by doing some backdating.  The bonus for me is the kit includes a pilot figure, as I prefer doing an inflight depiction.

My fixit list so far:

- short tail wheel and proper rudder and elevator sections, all of which are included as optional parts in the box

- remove two small bulges on the underside of cowl

- shallow chin intake -> will need to cut this part down, also not sure of the shape

- antennas  -> delete the underwing one, and short one on top needs to be moved aft a bit

Now AZmodel does a trio of these kits, and would be the easier route.   They may even have just as good detail, but have read there is a problem closing the fuselage halves together.  Apparently the cockpit floor is too wide and needs to be shaved down about 0.5mm all four sides.

Not very familiar with late war 109's, but the more I've been reading up on the G-6AS, the more one realizes how it echoes the theme of this group build.

A number of design changes introduced in an attempt to keep the 109 on equal footing with it's adversaries;

- taller tail to offset the more powerul engine

- Erla Haube canopy

- return to squared off wheel well to accept outer gear door (but were never fitted)

- better streamlined cowl, replacing the ungainly bulges in front of the cockpit

To start with, I think May of 1944 can be covered in here Jack. Bring it buddy.

not much to report but got the cannon bays done.

I 've been looking for reference pictures for this area but nothing so far. I added a couple of wires  and a light oil wash to grime things up.

Nicely detailed engine!

Great looking Salamander Matt. Tamiya kits are very well made and have exceptional fit.

Adding some wiring to the engine greatly improves detail.   

Looking very nice there Matt. Really like the look of the engine.

Update time,

This is should bring you up to where I am at now with the project.  The Tamiya He-162 is a really nice kit, not too complicated and fits together as expected.  Since this is going to be a natural metal and wood grain finish I am taking extra care to get the seams all cleaned up, I also added rivots to the fuselage to add detail.

I also have the canopy in place for painting, wings glued together and primed but dont have any pictures of that yet.

I also have the special set for the ZM 1/32 Ho-229 that is in my stash.  I will not be building that one any time soon, thats for sure.

Bish have you considered using stretched sprue for wiring and plumbing? I get excellent results using this method too.

 

I have some fine styrene rob i could use for the same purpose. I have a few days until its ready to close up so i can try out a few things.

Hey Gang! Name's Mike. New to subscription and looking forward to getting into this hobby more. My kids have gotten interested in doing these together as a "dad activity". Will be starting a Revell Me-410 kit here shortly. I'm not the most "professional" of builders, but my results have been improving over the last couple years. As I'm currently working in Southwest Asia/Middle East, my plan is to improvise with gear I have at hand.

Thats a good point. I think we have some scap ones in the recycling bin at work, might have to have a lok in there. managed to find some 30 gauge yellow artistic wire, so that should work for this one. Still got to do the wheel wells on both kits before i can close up anyway.

I have a box full of discarded wires from appliance cords and electronic components that I remove before tossing them in the garbage. The particular wires you are asking came off an old extension cord I had which I twisted a bit and painted yellow as per the pictures I saw. They looked about the correct size so I used them. Cheers, thats what i thought. I have been looking everywhere, even cut up a couple of old cables, but all to thick. I have ordered some 24AWG but i think that might be to big as well. Might have to use some of my finer wire and paint it.

 

yes some stuff is way too thick. Your best source is an old computer. They have tons of thin wiring.

The kit has good molded details and can be improved with added scratch work. The resin items I used was an over kill IMO but I got them on sale for just about peanuts so i couldn't pass them up. The kit's molded engine has a good base for adding some wiring to busy it up a bit, just check reference pictures.

The tape I used is vinyl and it sticks very well and can be bent around curves somewhat.

Ernie. That is looking to become your usual masterpiece.

Haven't got any bench time since I'm 1200 miles away from home in beautiful Florida. I really need to move down here.

PJ, what did you use for the yellow wire in your pit.

PJ - paint and canopy lines look excellent!  Hope that the tamiya tape will work as well for me in 1/48th scale.  I'm watching your build with interest as I have the same kit in my stash as well.

Great job on the canopy PJ, they look perfect. Nice to see the paint on as well. I think the two i am doing are both 82 with 81engines.
