Not very familiar with late war 109's, but the more I've been reading up on the G-6AS, the more one realizes how it echoes the theme of this group build.
A number of design changes introduced in an attempt to keep the 109 on equal footing with it's adversaries;
- taller tail to offset the more powerul engine
- Erla Haube canopy
- return to squared off wheel well to accept outer gear door (but were never fitted)
- better streamlined cowl, replacing the ungainly bulges in front of the cockpit
