Rooster that is a very interesting scheme indeed. That 190 looks weird with the missing lower gear cover.

Short update on my build. I shot the RLM76 lower color. The cannon bays will be sprayed with RLM02 and detailed once I can mask around the gun bays.

The scheme for the machine flown by Hptm. Heinz Kunnecke of 1./JG1 was RLM81 Brown/Violet for the upper color.

The canopy and windscreen was first polished with Novus then masked and shot RLM81.

I also found a picture of white 5 and its pilot.

Have found something I'd be interested in building, the Bf 109 G-6/AS, but does it qualify for the GB time frame?

Fantastic scheme Andy. I'll be looking forward to the white wash myself. From the pics it looks like that little flap on the back rear of the landing gear door's gotta go too. I've got a $#%!load of references on the 190. I may see if I can dig up a little clearer picture if you've got a little time.

Ye, there doesn't look to be much to those landing gear doors at all. I am guessing to stop a build up of mud and snow.

Thanks everyone!

I think I've settled on a scheme for this one. This one shows an overpaint of white and had yellow fuselage band and chevron painted to distinguish it from Romanian 190's. Based on the bomb load in the picture of the real thing, I assume it was out to do some armor hunting to try to slow or disrupt the assualt on Budapest.

And a picture of the real thing...

From the pic it looks like the lower part of the landing gear door is removed. Maybe to keep it from getting jammed up with all that snow and mud...? I'm thinking I'll have to take about this much off the kit part if I decide to try it.

I like that. Looking forward to seeing how you handle the white wash.

Rooster looking good and seems to be under control.

Joe that was great news to hear about the wife and glad things turned out tan bueno. Hey as to the other stuff, it's life and this is a hobby that can be set aside for later. I had to set it aside for a while while baby sitting my little granddaughter but things are back to normal now and I have a bit more bench time now.

Thanks Andy. Yes

I failed to comment on that wing root area. That has been a weak spot for me in times past but I will say that automotive modeling has helped out in that area ..............ALOT. Looks like you've got yours under control.

Andy, good to see this together. That wing root don't look to bad from here, hopefully it will be ok with some primer.

blkhwkmatt: Got your entry posted in the intro and that's one helluva scheme you've got picked out for it. Looking forward to watching that one come together.

Bish: Great start on that 162! Four nights on your 1/32nd scale pit???? Dude.........It takes me every bit of 2 weeks or better on an all out pit build. Smokin through it are ya??

Andy: Great start on that 190!!

Everybody: I've been out of the loop since Friday morning. Took my wife to San Antonio for an angiogram to see how the coils in her brain are holding up from last years aneurysm surgery. Everything turned out with great results but left at 8 a.m. and got back at almost 10 p.m. Saturday was busy with the weekly grocery store run, my son's basketball game, diagnosing my neighbors truck that wouldn't start and taking my son to a hockey game. We got back at 12 a.m. from that. The next day was tough to make it through and today has been even harder, but we'll be gettin' back to normal hopefully by tommorrow.

Nice work PJ. Man that engine looks nice!

I've been picking away at this one and finally have the main assembly done. I had to use some putty at the top of the wing gun access doors and at the front of the wing root. I think it may be user error on my part but no matter what I sanded down I couldn't get it to fit perfectly. Hopefully it doesn't look too bad under primer but we shall see. Here are a couple of pics...

Thanks guys.

My Salamander is a Revell 1/32. I have a Dragon in 1/48 but not doing that one at least for a while.

My mistake! I at least feel a little better after squinting at the kit I am hacking away at!
Keep at it man it looks great!

Looks great there PJ. I was woundering if that area under the engine would need filling. Dragon has that all blocked off on the 72nd one, but will do the same as you on the Revell kit.

Bish and PJ you guys make 1/48 1/72 scale detail look like 1/32 in how you finish them. Outstanding so far

Rooster your going to have yours finished before I move past the engine stage of mine!

I did some more work and slid the main gears on to be able to glue on the wings and tail. The gears are not glued on yet as to facilitate masking for the underside painting. I used a couple of Tamiya paint bottles which were the right height to use as supports while the glue cured. Notice I marked a black circle to show a huge open area visible under the rear part of the engine nozzle that Revell decided to leave as is.

Some thin plastic sheet and Tenax took care of the hole.

no more ugly empty open space under the rear of the engine.

I was fitting the resin engine and base and a few mods were needed to make them drop in the cavity but fits like a glove.

I should have added more lead weight to the nose cause it's a tail sitter. I can still add more weight froeward of the engine at the rear pit bulkhead so that is next along with securing it.

Ye, it is pretty small. It only took me one night to put the pit together, i then spent 4 nights on the 32nd pit.
