Sweet and scary looking Reaper Bish.

I'm still waiting for parts from Italy for the Hurricane. Hopefully they will come in in the next few weeks.

Bish

Scott, looking forward to seeing that. I didn't realise they had markings on the uinderside of the top wing.

Oops, I just realized what I said and it made no sense because there are no markings, man, I gotta stop trying to work on three builds when deprived of sleep.

Thanks guys.

G, no i didn't either. But i did check and it seems correct. You do get 2 sets of decals with it so i had spare on standby just in case.

Eric, i agree completly. I certainly don't agree with moving more and more to this way of wageing war.

Nice kit Bish. Does look menacing. Frankly that's one technology that I think we're all going to wish was never developed. It sure lowers the cost of entry in the doing a boatload of damage game. And the whole idea of war without cost (to yourself) strikes as ultimately delusional.

Bish: She turned out great! It can be difficult to make an all grey subject interesting I love how she turned out. Odd about the insignia, I don't think I'd seen anything non USAF with the single insignia either.

I finally got around to posting about the Hawker Fury I'm working on for this build.  I started in July, but with the PB disaster, well, you know.  Still trying to figure out how to bring the pics over from postimage.

Thanks AA. No, we don't operate the RQ-4. The Germans were in the process of getting them but believe they ran into some problems. NATO has them as does NASA i believe. I have not seen a model of one but would be nice.

Slick looking Reaper, Bish!  I wonder, does the RAF also fly the RQ-4 Global Hawk?  I've never seen the USAF version, but I know the EU (or is it NATO?) flies a European-spec version called the EuroHawk (different sensor package).  I've seen them down at the EADS defense plant at Manching, just outside of Ingolstadt.  That would be a cool one to model.

Meanwhile, progress continues on my Spitfire.  Camo paint now done:  http://pin.it/9o4Wu9Q

Got the Reaper finished up this weekend. Not an awful lot of decals for this, the USAF one had a lot more. I was surised that the wing national insignia are done the same way as US aircraft. I had to check some pics to make sure they had not got it wrong. But seems they didn't.

Then added front undrcarrage, prop and weapons.

And finally onto the base.

lewbud, from what i can tell, all British aircraft had unpainted wheels, but couldn't find anything that confirms that.

I am checking in and still with this GB.  I have the final coat of paint on the SE5 and setting it up on jig to install the upper wing.  But I got a little ahead of myself and forgot to put the decals on the bottom of the upper wing, so I need to take it off the jig and decale the wing.

I don't know about the Tempest, but I've seen several Spitfires that ALL have had aluminum wheels, even though various model kit instructions may say to paint them the same color as the underside of the wings. So, I just leave them aluminum, until I see a real-life example that says otherwise.

Color question.  Would the gear bays on a late war Tempest be British Interior Green or aluminum?  Would the wheels be the same as the underside color or aluminum as well?

Belly of the Spitfire has been painted, Sky green (Tamiya XF-21, Humbrol 90, or Vallejo BS 216.  I really like the look of this!  BTW, Jack, I took your advice and used the larger blown canopy so I can display it open.  Don't want all that good cockpit detailing I did to go to waste!

About the Tamiya's Spitfire clear parts, I'm thinking they provide two blown style canopies with one being a bit larger so it sits better if displayed open?

The front windscreen that has a thicker front facing, this is the armoured type introduced during the BoB.

Part 5 and 10 is the fuselage navigation light that sits right behind the radio mast, and they provide two just in case you lose one?

Jack

LB: yeah not the most complex kit but she's looking good so far.

AA: I would hazard a guess they designed one sprue for different marks from I to V or so and just stuck it in all the boxes. I haven't noticed much of that from Tamiya before but Dragon does it all the time.

Okay guys, need a little help here. I'm working on my Tamiya 1/48 Spitfire Mk. 1 and I've run into a puzzling situation. On Sprue "C" - the clear parts - there are several canopy pieces, as well as various lights, etc. The rear window is part 4, the front windscreen is part 2, and it gives you a choice of either straight or blown canopy (part 1 or 3, respectively). However, there are also some other clear parts that are not mentioned anywhere in the instructions. Part 10, an indicator light, appears to be a duplicate of part 5, and part 8, another blown canopy, looks to be a duplicate of part 3. But why? No mention is made in the instructions of these parts, and if they were duplicates, then why give them separate part numbers? It wold make more sense to just have two parts #3, or two parts #5, etc. And then part #9, which is also a front windscreen, is definitely NOT a duplicate of part #2, there are noticeable differences in the canopy framework. So what's the story, anybody?

Ye, the GR.1 kit came first, than the GR.3 followed by the AV8. Just new parts for each version.

I'm waiting for the Airfix Phantom as well, although something tells it will be a while before it gets to this side of the pond. The price on the Fujimi's was just too good to pass up.  Do you know if Airfix AV-8A kit and the Harrier mk. I are the same kit?

Bish

Frontpage updated.

lewbud, there are a couple of ways you can do it. The one i use is to select Download this photo (downward pointing arrow) then view all sizes. Select the size you want, i go for 640, then right click the image, slect properties and copy a paste. Bit long winded but its my preffered way.

Thanks Bish, will give it try. Picked up a 1/72 Hasegawa Tornado GR Mk. I and a 1/72 Fujimi FGR.2 at a local contest today.  The Tornado will be done up as a bird from No.617SQN the Dambusters.  The FGR.2 will be done up as XT901 of No.565Sqd (RAF Wattisham) complete with sharks mouth.  Don't know if they'll make this build yet. Is there a rule somewhere that says all Phantom kits must have two-three times as many decals as there are parts in the kit? Also picked up a 1/72 Fujimi RF-4B and a F-4N of VF-111 (also with a shark mouth, I see a theme developing), Going to be in stencil hell if I go on a Phantom binge.

You need to use the 'bb code' selection to link the images for auto display....
