Thanks Gary! I think down the road I’ll give AllGlad a try and do the different types of metals. I have a 1/72 B-36 in my stash that might be just the plane to try it out on. I did both aircraft with Tamiya rattle cans.

I really like your TBD so far. Another aircraft I need to add to the stash.

Doc

I sure hope you mean Alclad, 'cause, if not, I've got all the wrong paints!! Propeller

Thanks for the compliment on the TBD. BUT, I guarantee you, you DO NOT want this kit in your stash - it sucks big time. Not sure if any other company produced this aircraft in kit form, though, so this might be your only option. I bought this one earlier this year from a fellow local club member for $17, and wish now that I had never seen the thing!

The reference, part, or advice you need always turns up after the project is past that point...

Hah!! Ain't THAT the truth!! Especially when you're talkin' scratch-building a kit, and as soon as you get it finished, a model company puts it on the market.

Doc, careful now with the dark side (armor)...

I have an old 1/35 Tamiya M3 Stuart in the stash that I think might be a good one to start with.

Well, shoot! I didn't realize that my last update on the Devastator was 23 Sept! I thought it was just a week or so ago.

Anyways, here's the latest:

I was able to get back at the bench late Friday night (13 Oct) and get some progress done on the TBD....

The shims in the wing roots seemed to have worked out well. After trimming them to fit the fairing contour, they don't look too bad, although the hobby knife I trimmed with left a few gouges. Oh well - my fault on that one.

Got the horizontal stabilizers glued in place with superglue. I thought I was gonna have trouble getting & keeping them aligned while the glue set, but they came out ok. Unfortunately, if you look closely at the pictures, you'll see that the leading edges of the stabilizers don't exactly line up with the root/fairings. I'm leaving it as is. Please disregard the age spots on my not-so-old hand. The other hand looks very similar.....

I was initially going to lower the flaps, but the flap recess area showed way too many imperfections where the wing joined the fuselage, and I just don't have enough time to fix all of this and get my two kits completed in time for the group build completion date, so I just glued them retracted. Looks ok to me.......

I'm gonna leave the outer wing panels off until everything else is completed and painted. The attachment of the outer panels will be the last thing I glue on. I decided to glue them in the extended position, as the folding mechanism (small plastic pins) didn't seem to want to hold up too well, so.............

Hope to have some more updates soon.

Gary

Eagle you're making a good start on your Mig. What markings are you planning for this one?

Thank you sir!  Being a Cold War baby...I might stick with a straight up Soviet jet.  Old school!  LOL!

Doc, those look great! I'll get those added to the front page roster here shortly. Go and wear your MM IV badge with Familia pride.

MC, I'm gonna have to say no on the FW-190. Looking that kit up on Scalemates, it does not qualify. Gunze in Japan was the original maker of those molds. Sorry about that friend.

Thanks Stik, that is high praise coming from you! And thank you for hosting this GB, I had a great time and I think I'll have to try my hand at building some more aircraft. I also might try some armor now.......

No problemo my friend, the P-40 is comming right along. Its in the painting stage except for the step back for more filling.

I haven't worked on anything for about 2 weeks, but continued with the P-40 which is requiring more filling after I painted and noticed the gaps.

I also painted the white roof on the 57. That's about the only thing that's going right.

BTW, can I add a 1/144 FW-190A to the list? I'm going to start it tonight and just wanted to ask. I'll be done with that long before the P-40

B One and Eagle, those are some great builds! Nice job everyone, wish I got some work done on the Mustang but these WIP photos are a great motivation!

Nice work everyone, I dissapeared for the weekend and a bunch of builds are done.

I'm a bit slow lately but had the day off today.  Gave the Tigercat a dot filtering and dust treatment with a dulcoat finish.

Thunderbolt is mostly painted and will be touching it up.

I also got back to the F-4B

B1 --- Your Tomcat looks great. I had to check the front page because I didn't realize they made one in 1/32, now I need to get one. Eagle --- Great start on your Mig, I always use Future on the dials. It helps detail pop in those cramped cockpits if you're going to leave the canopy open.

Thanks all for the compliment's. So since wrapping up the first build, it renewed.my build motivation. So I sat down last night at the bench with the 102 and went on a build binge. This is where I am at with my second entry.

Here are some pics from the Mig-15 kit.  She is going together fairly well and it is going quickly.  The canopy slides and it is a bit odd and cluncky, so I'm not sure it will stay that way or if I'll just glue it shut/open.  I did break down and order a Montex canopy mask set.  I know, it's for a Trumpy Mig, but I'm hoping it will work for the Mono kit.  Of course, after I ordered it, I remembered something about Mono's Mig-15 kit is more like 1/40 scale...so I may have spent the money for not.  I'm going to drop some Future Floor stuff on the dials and work on the dials to spruce up the office area, but in the long run, not sure how much you'll be able to see.

Eagle, those photos are perfect! I’ll select a couple to put on the Familia wall in the next day or so.

TG&Y and models... now there are some old memories. I don’t have any memories of Monogram kits at the one by me... but a strong memory of several of the AMT Star Trek kits at that store. And Hawk models at the Sav On drug store in the same center...

Thank you sir.  The Mig-15 is coming along nicely.  Will post pics today.

The AMT stuff was at either Zayre or KMart down here.  TG&Y....I can still remember which isle they were in.  Just a small selection of kits, but they were enough for a young pup like me at the time.  I'd sit on the floor looking at each kit, trying to figure out which one I was going to spend my hard earned money on.  Lots of yards mowed and Coke bottles taken to Winn Dixie for the money to get them.  If only it were still that simple huh?

CB, your Tomcat is off to a great start! Nice work on the cockpit. Which squadron markings do you have in mind for this build?

Stick,  not sure yet but I always liked the hi vis VF-143 scheme. I also have a set of VF-1 markings for a overall gloss grey bird that I have been wanting to use.. would not be surprised if it ends up being neither of those however -- my mind is always changing.
