Thet W.O.T. 8 truck is a Ford design, but was manufactured in the UK, and therefore would likely have been painted in SCC15, (some also call it British Olive Drab No.15).  This British equivalent of US olive drab came out in 1944 in order to unify the look of their equipment since so much was lend leased.

It has been described as a bit more greener than the American olive, so that may be why the colour call out for Tamiya - well the wording on the bottle matches, but the paint inside ....  It's only in the last few years that model paint brands began bottling this UK colour specifically.

Mike Starmer, who has researched British vehicle paint colours, has this mix for Tamiya paints:

 5 parts XF81

1 part XF58

1 part XF71

Jack

Gamera

Thanks Bish! I've used US olive drab on my last few British vehicles but I'm reading the US flavour fades to a more brownish-greyish shade while the British fades to a more light green. Oh well, I'll play it by ear- to me if it looks right it's right.

I thought WOT was 'World of Tanks' Stick out tongue

I have not done any WW2 British armour, i tend to stick to modern and thats hard enough figuring out colours. Would a coat of OD followed by a mix with some khakl green work.

Ye, i was thinking World of Tanks at first as well.

I believe the colour was BS 381C 298 khaki green but was also known as Olive Drab. I can't find any specific models paint for that colour, though seem to be plenty selling it for 1/1 scale vehicles. I think the Tamiya OD would be the best option.

Svenne Duva

Hi,
colour question for you guys:

The instructions call for Tamiya XF-58 Olive Green for the W.O.T. 8.
I have a can of Tamiya TS-28 Olive Drab 2.

What's your take?

What would be your prefered colour (make and number) for a June 44 Brittish Army vehicle?

And does W.O.T. mean Wide Open Throttle ?

Stay healthy and have a good weekend!

Svenne

You know that's a good question!

I've got some US olive drab and some bronze green and had intended to use one or the other on the Comet. But after looking around I'm not totally sure either are accurate.

William: Sorry to hear you're bowing out. Still it's good to get outside and do stuff now that it's getting warmer. And it breaks the cabin fever from this stupid virus. Please do drop in and say hello from time to time if nothing else!

Those are 2 great looking pickups there Gam, they should go together really well, being from Takom and AH. Other then that, I haven't got anything to report, and probably for a long time... Spring is finally here, so i'm hitting the outdoors as much as possible, especially mountain biking/cycling. Been thinking bout this for awhile now. Seeing as I have very limited energy, because of my FM/ME/CFS, so I don't think i'll be able to do any modelling for quite a while, at least till next winter. Even then, I have way to much stuff to do round the house. So for those reasons, i'm withdrawing my entrance into the group build (builds). I'm sorry if I have left you fellers out to dry, believe me, it's not my attention in the least. I'm still going to stick around, and enjoy your builds. Oh, i'm passing the builds to my brother (German Armor), he has the time and (especially energy) to finish them. I'm thinking i'll barter him a decent commission to build them, after all, all the blood, sweat, and tears (not to mention bondo Wink) cost money. Maybe if I feel up to it, i'll drop by his shop to tinker along with him Smile. Thanks Bish, Gam, AA, and all others.

I hope so too Bish. I normally go on holiday in May and I like to take an armour kit along so I can clean up road wheels etc while I'm sitting around watching TV at night. We'll have to see if Corona-chan has other plans for me this year though...

AA: The second LRDG truck sounds cool!

William: Sorry to hear that but looking for more updates on the Dingo.

BTW: My Conqueror Mk II came in and the Chieftain Mk II was on sale. So if I ever get done with the PE on this Comet and get her all painted up I've got plenty more here.

O, now i hope you can fit those in. I have the Chieftan Mk 11 so will be keen to see that built. And i have been giving that FV214 some thought.

Hey Bish, thanks! Since that one went so well, I’d like to do another one! I have a second Tamiya LRDG truck kit (with the additional 5 figure ex-Master Box set, instead of the ex-Italeri 20mm gun), and I was going to build them both for a diorama I have in the works, so I might as well enter it into this GB, too!

Looking forward to that AA, will get it on the list.

Hey Bish, could you please strike the bantam off the rooster Wink. I have more then enough on my plate with Dingo, and my other 2 difficult builds right now. And spring is fast approaching, so I don't think i'll get around to it in time. Busy busy busy!

Jack: Gee, a few millimeters off doesn't sound like a lot except when it's a model a dozen centimeters long.

Svenne, good start on the lowers.  Hopefully once the upper structure is added it will correct some of the present warping.

----------------------------

Thank you Bish and Cliff.

Bronco does seem to have something questionable about each of their kits, at least the few I have built.  I've done a couple of their Italian tankettes.  Though they went together well enough, been told they are a bit too wide scale wise.

Their A13 Cruiser Tank series is also well known for having shape issues, particularly the turret armour.

The only other kit  I've partially built/studied is their Staghound.   When working out some Canadian markings, was having trouble getting them to fit on the front hull glacis.  After enquiring about some measurents and studying these, I came to the conclusion that, although not perfect, the front glacis is not that bad.  The real offender is the hull  machine gun mound.   It could be a hair smaller, but the main correction is shifting the mound almost 3mm closer to side.

regards,

Jack

AA: That looks awesome!

Jack: Great work there with the corrections. And I noticed that your kit is by Bronco too. Oh brother, are ALL their kits like yours and mine!?! I've got a couple more of their kits in my stash including a M24 Chaffee... Indifferent

Svenne: Nice work on the chassis (to a Yank that's what I'd call it, there might be a different term in the UK). That blows to see the sprues all broken up like that, you've done a great job repairing the damage.

I can't see Svenne's pic's until i check at home. But if your talking about what i think you are, then nope, its still a chassis.
