I agree with ya Bandha.
I was trying to find PE for my Mk8, but it all suits the ICM, and I'm still toying with the idea of getting it and trying to adapt it to the Hase kit.
While the detail in the Hase is ok, I would like to put a bit more into it to improve things.

I have an aversion to OOB builds, must be the water here! Wink [;)]

Well I have the Arii mkVIII, which was a darn sight cheaper than the Hase VIII (though simpler)

Well Mike i'm byast i love the Spitfire Mk V111 Tongue [:P]

IMHO it is the most attractive of all the Spitfire MK's and with Aussie markings and a Sharks Mouth they look fantastic Wink [;)]

Thats why i have 3 of them 1 built 2 to go........

Carl i havn't seen an RAAF Hawk in the flesh but i have a pic of one landing, no colour guide though Sad [:(]

Has anyone seen a RAAF Hawk in the flesh? I had always thought that there were 2 paint jobs, one grey & one sort of brown/beige-grey. After some research & seeing pics of the same plane moving from the tarmac into a hangar, I realise it's a property of 'the' finish they've used for them all. It always looks like two shades of grey on the shade, but when hit by the direct sunshine it can look like a beige (the light grey) & a brown-grey (the dark grey).

I wish people would carry a colour reference strip with them & place it at the bottom of their aircraft photos, it amazes me that no magazine does this when showing of finishes.

So when's the start date, Oz Day? Hopefully I'll have my R. arm out of the sling by then (had shoulder surgery a week before Xmas) so that at least stops me fiddling with the Hawk kit for now. The arm will be like a toothpick when I get it back & being right handed it'll be interesting to see how steady I am handling the PE etc. (Yes, I am typing with 2 fingers of my left hand.)

I'll check out that CMK Merlin, if it fits on to the ICM mounts i'll definatly get even though the Merlin in the ICM kit is Pretty good, it just needs some wiring and the bits and pieces that are attached to the engine mounts......

Tweets the ICM kit you asked about is a fine kit, the parts fit isn't as good as the Has kit but IMHO the detail is a little better, in the box you get........
Complete Merlin Engine with the option to open all engine panels
Open gun bays
Optional c/pit door
Beautifull undercarriage
All cast in a horrible brown colour, the pit is pretty good but it still needs seat belts and a new instrument panel.........jules....

I have finally decide on my choices for the group build:

RAAF Mk 1c Beaufighter using the CMK conversion and the Hawkeye decals, and
RAAF PR16 Mosquito using CMK PR16 conversion and exterior set (sortof started already but just barely)

In regards to RAAF Camo schemes during WW2 although there were standard laid down patterns, once the aircraft got in to the field and required repaints there was no guarantee that the laid down patterns and colours would be fully adhered to, in a lot of cases "shes close enought mate" specification was used, usually to distain of those at higher levels.

This is one of the reasons why sometimes a photo of aircraft may give the impression that it has another camo scheme that does not meet the laid down schemes.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Yeah Darson the scheme on my Aussie Spit didn't seem to match the A or B pattern so i just copied the masks from my reference books.........
Was there a C patern Camo scheme, something in the back of my mind tells me yes....

Mike from the references that I dug up during the last Aussie build, the scheme used by these aircraft was not the standard A or B pattern. I will check properly when I get home tonight to be sure.
I am fairly sure that I still have the aircraft schematic, so if you send me your email address I will mail the info to you.

I thought there would be alot more PE for the Hase kit than the ICM kit

Might get the PE and see if it is gonna be to big a pain to fit to the Hase, and if so, who of you has the ICM SPit 8???

The decals from Aero Image Works are excellent Sean, perhaps a little thick but they respond to setting solution very nicely, the sharks mouth themselves are a real pain in the A--E i had to chop most of the black out of the mouth to get them to conform to the surface but with a little bit of black paint they come out ok........
