Have amended the rules to include dios.

Also, as the group build does cover a long period of time I would like to amended the rules further to allow multiple entries from those taking part who beleive that they can build more than one model over this time. The only stipulation being that they declare the models that they are going to build.

If there are no objections the group build will start on Australia Day (26 Jan 2005) and continue until the 30 of June 2005.

If there is no objections to the above I will amend the rules on Monday 6 Dec 04.

As I have not recieved any objections on the above, I will amend the rules to reflect the above.

Either are impressive!!

Be nice to lock this into an end date like November 11 '05 or April 25 '06. The later is more important IMHO but that would make the GB rather long.

cheers

Jules, that is a lovely badge, just right IMHO!

Pledge attacks true water based acrylics worst of all, these being in the main, Vallejo, Aeromaster, Polyscale etc. Not sure about Tamiya or Gunze as they are not "true" acrylics.

cheers

Nice, very pleasant image Jules.

Kind of peaceful, yet has a point.
Show us the other one, but this one looks like a winner to me

I recently dumped a pretty thick coat of Pledge onto some Alclad & so far (2 weeks) it looks ok. The Alclad is a 'water based laquer' (go figure!) so perhaps it's not affected. The Alclad air brush cleaner rips it all straight off, back to the primer, pledge & all, before you can draw breath. I once asked Alclad what to use as a substitute if I couldn't buy their cleaner here & they recommended Acetone, so I assume their cleaner has the same base.

I have also heard of this, but have never had a problem myself.
The trick to using Pledge is to spray a light mist coat, allow 5 minutes drying time, then apply your heavier coat.
I use Gunze acrylics almost exclusively, and have never had Pledge doing anything nasty.
Just be careful I suppose

I purchased a tiny Trumpeter 1:144 F-86F-30 Sabre that is simply gorgeous. NoW I know there are proposed RAAF decals for the 1:144 Ozmods CAC Sabre's so with a bit of adroit filling to get rid of the third 50 cal troughs on each side of the fuselage and at that scale the deeper intake would not be a problem! The kit comes with a two piece canopy as well!

I have the Ozmods 1:144 Sabre and it will need a lot more work done to it than the Trumpy offering. Maybe I could shoehorn the better 'pit from Ozmods into the Trumpy fuselage?

Best part was the cost...AU$5.95!!

cheers

So is there any downside to using Pledge, I've used it for a while & it seems fine?

Jules

Pledge is different to Future. I picked some of the Future up in the States when on holiday and it is certainly not the same stuff, also Pledge has a small amount of ammonia in it.

I still have about 2/3 of a bottle of Future and 1/3 bottle of Super Stride, which is milky but the same as Future. Unfortunately they do not make Super Stride anymore Sad [:(]

cheers

I have a High planes Hawk sitting in my stash waiting for me to get the courage to start it. I have done a bit of work on one that a guy started and then couldn't finish as it was WAY above his skill level. Just the trimming and cleaning up of the parts is fun in itself with lots of dry fitting of parts. The builds in most magazines etc make it look easy to build but........

My Highplanes CAC Avon Sabre in 1/48 is also sitting in my stash awaiting a start. I will work my way to it eventually, but then again the Ozmods 1/48 Caribou is also sitting there waiting for me to start it. So many kits, so little time. Big Smile [:D]

So Dave, I assume I can just ask you for all the Hawk tips rather than researching myself?

I can't believe that red Caribuou. It's fantastic that the RAAF have considered the air-brushing fanatics in the modelling community after such a long time.

Me too, it looks excellent Dave.

I also love the fact that Hawkeye are now importing Future into Australia. My only question is, how do I get some? There didn't seem to be any mention of it on the Hawkeye site.

Cheers

I just received the new Hiplanes decals, 1/72 Sabre and 1/32 Mirage ejection seat for review for the Aussie modeller site. I will be doing a review on them in the next day or two. The decals are 1/48 RAAF and USAAF Boston, 1/32 RAAF Mirage Pt I & III and 1/48 RAAF Beaufighter Mk1C. Have a look at the Highplanes site for them or the Aussie Modeller site for a review in a day or two.

We are also after any build articles people are interested in having put on the site as well as models that have been built for the Gallery.

I got the internals from the High planes Hawk 127, it is the most accurate RAAF Hawk on the market but takes a LOT of work to get a finished result. After going through an accurising and scratchbuilding exercise with the 1:48 Premiere Hawk T.1A (just before the Arifx kit came out), I do not want another 6 month build.

A quick call to High Planes got me the resin/white metal/PE/vacc and decals from their kit for $28 and the purchase of the Airfix kit at $20 gives me a cheaper and easier build (I hope)

I am eying off the Wackett though!

cheers

Ok, if we're the West island what does that make Tasmania?

The Sea Fury in the AWM is quite a pretty beast. If you want the full res pics from my web page just let me know. http://bandha.customer.netspace.net.au/

I got the Hiplanes BAE hawk 127 kit today. Interesting kit. The jet itself is nicely panelled but tons of flash. A couple of excellent resin seats, separate plastic bits with finer detail - these are really well done although still with tons of flash. White metal wheels & pointy things. & two big lead cockpit tubs, plus some very plain bits of PE. The decals look terrific. They've even got decals for the canopy det-chord, although it's either white or transparent (invisible on the sheet) so I don't know how that's going to work? Two vac-formed canopies.

The instructions are not like the usual Jap fare. "Make from plastic rod" and "make blast shield from clear styrene using template" type instructions here & there.

For those still on the hunt Hiplanes do have a range of Oz planes, all with multiple RAAF/RAN/et al decal sets. Mostly 1/72 (the Hawk is 1/48). There are a couple of RAAF Beaufighters, a couple of Mirages, a Winjeel, a Boston, a Jindivik and even the old Wackett Trainer. An interesting looking Ryan STM/PT-20 Trainer for those who like something different. And an Oz Army Pilatus. Go nuts!

Most were produced by Airwaves or Aeroclub at one stage. I think there is an Aires set for the Tamiya Spit mk1, or was available.

I think I will build my Monogram Spit OOB with the exception of some PE belts. That way I can just get on with it!!

cheers

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

It does seem a little daunting, which decals to choose.

I have managed to find some resin detail sets for the Fury, don't know if they are still available, but the ppics looked pretty nice.

Bit more searching, and if I can't find some A/M bits, I'll look at something else.

Something else I noticed, Spit a/m bits, at least for earlier models, are really hard to come by.
Is it just me, ie-not looking in the right places.

That is a problem for me. I have the 1:48 HC Sea Fury and 3 sets of markings to choose from. It is all too confusing and I have put it away until I can think straight after Christmas!!

I wouldn't mind being the West Island mate.

One day I'll manage to get over there, see if it's somewhere I'd like to retire.

As far as models for this GB, the Spit is definate, and I'm looking at a Hawker Sea Fury, kinda ugly, but different.
