Now there's probably something out there that would qualify in all four groups. Did any Oz Spits, Hurricanes, etc that were in the BoB go to Africa? If so, it might be interesting to do the two paint jobs side by side.

Carl i'm not sure mate, i know many Hurricanes found their way to Africa as hurribombers or tankbusters but i think the RAAF SQD's mainly flew the Tomahawk

Tweety, mate i'll probably only leave the side engine panels open cause i don't want to lose those classic spitfire lines...... I chose Caldwell's A/C because it has no sharks mouth and considering how hard those decals are to get on it would be a shame to stick them on and not see them, besides i still wanna do one in the same scheme as Darson's
Darson i just had a quick look on Google and there's a ton of pics of Meteors....
just go to www.google.com and do a search......
here's one i found.....
Petbat yeah mate i'll cruise over after work
Speaking of the more unusual kits i have my eye on this WW1 flying boat by Roden i can't remember the actual A/C name except that it starts with the letter F but it has large areas in blue and white and i think FSM did a review about 6 months ago.....

Tom
I must confess that I do not have any Spits on my display shelves. Not good enough really, so the BoB GB is going to be a good excuse for building a 1:48 Monogram Spitfire mkIIa. No excuses now!
I have successfully built 2 Airfix 1:72 Rotodynes now, with another on the way!
cheers

Tweety and Mike.. I have to agree with you both on building something "different":
I guess I've built more than my share of Spitfires in my past that I didnt even think when doing the GB's that I really haven't seen (maybe) one since I've been here? I'm doing a wildcat for the BOB build but in RAF attire, a 'little' different... but wanted to stay away fdrom the mainstream spits and all associated with the BoB, I only wish that Fairey Fulmar kit played out.. would have been outstandingly different!
and it's part of the reason I am having trouble finding something for this one.. not that there isnt a lot of "different" things to do.. I have to find what strikes my fancy too...
this week has been busy so not a big chance to post but will come up with something this weekend! it's a good excuse to head down to hobby shop and talk with the old timer modelers down there... they have a LOT of great ideas! (lots of great kits too, if ya know what I mean )

Absolutely Jules, the sort of reference material I am looking for is how badly weathered these aircraft where any build-up articles on the kit (lot's of these) and any reference photos I can find on the cockpit of the Meteor.
Cheers

Yeah it's a challenge, and a certain amount of 'artistic interpretation' is required, but the wars were not won using 4 or 5 a/c, but a plethora of makes and models, each of which needs to be brought to light.
Well, thats my feelings anyways.
I'll shutup now.

Well said Tweety
I am building the Zvezda 1:72 Kamov Ka-27 Helix ASW chopper at the moment. All the hall marks of a limited run kit, Airfix like cleanup required, filler needed and detail between Airfix and Hasegawa. HOWEVER it is a great little subject and will look excellent next to my RAN Wessex!
I have never seen one of these built up anywhere.
I will eventually build another Me109, probably finish the Buchon "BoB movie" I am half way through.
cheers

or teen series fighters!!!
I made the decision to move away from the "mainstream" kits that everyone is churning out these days.
Me109's, teen series US fighters, Fw190's et al. I like all planes but like the unusual or not often modelled kits now!
We do not seem to see a lot of Spitfires either of late!
cheers

It would have made my tour in East Timor easier if we had adopted them 2 or more years ago! Stuck in a camp with 100 Kiwis when NZ was winning cricket, football etc. Trust me when I say that they let us know of this!!!!!

Re Aussie Group Build 05:
Have amended the rules to include dios.
Also, as the group build does cover a long period of time I would like to amended the rules further to allow multiple entries from those taking part who beleive that they can build more than one model over this time. The only stipulation being that they declare the models that they are going to build.
If there are no objections the group build will start on Australia Day (26 Jan 2005) and continue until the 30 of June 2005.
If there is no objections to the above I will amend the rules on Monday 6 Dec 04.

Petbat: Welcome to the Aussie Group build, its good to have you on board. Your selection won't be a problem as the Group build is based on any Aussie subject.
I forgot to include dio's in the rules, actually to tell the truth I didn't even cross my mind .
Jules, your build sounds interesting.

petbat It up to South Aussie to make the ruling because he's running the build, but IMHO I reckon you fit the criteria no worries. Nicholma is doing a Grice Commodore, so why not a piece of arty? Just my
I am already gathering up build articles and references for the Meteor, there seems top be a fair bit out there so, so far so good.
Cheers

Okay quick Question on the Aussie GB rules. I have a Tamiya 1/35th scale 25 pounder field gun and limber as used by the Aussies in WW2 (and after). Figures can be easily coverted to Aussies, and I plan doing a simple dio around the cobbers from Oz at El Alamein. It is not -
"Any military vehicle, aircraft or ship that has been or is currently in service with the Australian Forces. Must have Australian Markings." -
but is military equipment and figures. Would this qualify for the GB? If so I'm in.

Hmmm, has a nice ring to it don't you think?

I thought Australia had adopted NZ as our 8th state? So technically a RNZAF Avenger or Corsair would be ok for the aussie GB.

Well, I'm hanging for the BoB GB, and the Nth African GB the most.
Purely cause of the 109 scheme's I can play with.

Hmmmm, 6 month Aussie GB, and then a 6 minth ANZAC GB.
That would make for an interesting year of builds IMHO!
Especially with the ANZAC build, imagine the different builds that would roll off the benches.
Fantastic idea I say.
