Joe... sorry dude... they just showed a shot of the NJ Turnpike and it is bumber to bumpoer as far as the eye can see.  they are expecting 815,000 vehicles on the turnpike today...

SO...

here's the recipe...Big Smile [:D]

About ½ C. meat trimmings with some fat

2 shallots peeled & chopped

1 carrot chopped

1 stalk celery chopped

8 oz white wine

8 oz heavy cream

2 Tbs Dijon mustard

Olive oil

Salt and pepper

Sauté the meat and veggies in a little olive oil with a little salt and pepper, in a 2 qt sauce pan, until it is much browned and there is a lot of bits cooked on the bottom of the pot but be careful not to let it burn.  Pour in the wine to deglaze the pan scraping the bottom to loosen all the bits stuck to the pan.  Let that cook down until the meat and veggies are barely wet with the wine.  Add the cream and bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer until thick and add the mustard.  The amount of mustard can be adjusted to taste.  Strain the sauce and press the meat and veggies hard to get the last bit of juices and flavor from them.  Adjust seasoning if needed.  Makes a bit more than a cup of sauce.  Multiply recipe as needed.

Use this with any meat... great with prok... not to be believed with rabbit... how bad can be with venison.

That sounds delicious!  I will try it this weekend.  Try this one...

Take the backstrap cut it into thirds.  Cut small but deep slices into the meat and stuff in bits of garlic clove.  In a pan with olive oil sear the meat until brown.  In a ceramic baking dish toss in one can of condensed Cream of Mushroom soup.  Coat the bottom of the pan.  Layer in portobello mushrooms, lay in the back straps then cover with another mushroom, I prefer oyster mushrooms.  Cover with foil and bake for one hour @ 350, serve over wild rice with a good green and crisp veggie...YUM YUM says the bear!

And the last horse crosses the line...

First time I used Alclad II and I likey. Chrome on the props and Aluminum on the fuselage. Used Tamiya Flat Yellow as the base on the wings then second coat of MM Chrome Yellow. Best way to get uniform chrome yellow coverage I've used yet.

Bent the rules a tad by adding a Navy pilot from another kit, but it seemed kinda weird to have this thing hanging from my office ceiling gearup and pilotless. Tongue [:P] Stayed OOB other than that.

Will build the longnose version of this plane sometime in the future. Next up AT-6 Texan.

Ditto what Rick said. You did a great job of it and worth the wait. It's a very um... (how do I say this politely) interesting looking aircraft. What kit is it?

Minicraft's 1/48 "Shortnose" XF5F-1 Skyrocket. Minicraft makes a "Longnose" version of it as well. Only manufacturer to make a kit of this plane in 1/48 scale. Would like to see the XP-50 done in 1/48 one day. The XP-50 is the "missing link" so to speak between the "Longnose" version of this plane and the F7F Tigercat. Would have the entire Tigercat evolution covered at that point.

Thanks for the remarks everyone.

Quagmyer,
That's a beautiful rendition of of the skyrocket. How did you find the kit fit?

3d modelling is an option a true mental excercise in frusrtation

wibhi2 - The fit was not that bad with exception to the gear doors on the underside (not pictured) where I used a good amount of filler. Had I done this model gear doors open, it wouldn't have been noticeable.

Joe - That idea of a First Jets sounds great. Just looking at my stash I have the following candidates:

  • Hobbycraft 1/48 YP-59 Airacomet
  • Monogram 1/48 P(F)-80 Shooting Star
  • Czech Model 1/48 FR-1 Fireball <-- Navy's Prop-Jet hybrid (I like to call this one a missing link too Wink [;)])
  • Collect Aire 1/48 FH-1 Phantom <-- Navy's first full jet
  • Tamiya 1/48 F.1 Meteor

Joe, I don't build many Gas Passers, But I did pick up the CA 1/48 kit of the Supermarine Attacker.  Don't know why, it was kinda an impulse buy at the LHS.  Anyway, it was the first jet to serve with the Royal Navy so I assume it would meet your ground rules.  I also have the Hobby Craft 1/48 P-59A Aircomet kit in the stash, which I think would also qualify as the first jet used by the USAF.  So, I'll probably join your proposed GB.  It will give me the incentive to actually build em Smile [:)].

ohhh an Attacker...I'm liking that one...that's the kind of kits I personally want to see (nothing against the Aircomet)  In fact I just saw a review over on Modeling Madness not too long ago...I am thinking of either a MiG for some obscure Banana Republic or a Vampire...
