Yeah, those indy tracks just about killed me on the king tiger. I made it worse for myself by adding the side skirts before the tracks, which made it very tight fit getting them on......

I posted over on the darkside yesterday, as I'm trying to suss which indy link tracks to go with for the Panther. Having used the indys on the Semovente, I have to say they are a huge improvement over the rubber band tracks supplied with most kits.

Currently looks like I'm going with either Fruil or Modelkasten, both of which cost more than the kit!!!!!! You're right Sean, armour is for the rich kids.

Seeing as this build runs for a while I might try and do my Revell 1/32 He162 for the AC side of things, especially now all the AM stuff is appearing for it.

I am definately at a quandry as to what I should build for this project.

I have the following modes available for build:

Revell 1/32 He-262
Trumpeter 1/24 Fw 190D-9
Air Fix 1/24 Me 109E
Air Fix 1/24 Ju 87B
Trumpeter Me 190G-10
Revell History Maker 1/32 Bf 110C

Some choice, huh!

That's a tough choice alright. Not as tough as finding a place to put all those big birds after they're built though. Was that the Me 262 or the He 162? Not familiar with the He 262 or the Me 190 G-10 for that matter. Confused [%-)] Don't worry, my fingers don't type too good either.
The Ju 87, Bf 109E and Bf 110C aren't really the right time period for this build so that leaves the Fw 190D and I assume the He 162 and Me 109 G-10. I would do the He 162. But that's just my My 2 cents [2c] worth.

Razor,

There was a Me 163 the He 162 was a diffiernt machine. Someone else has picked the 190 so I will go with either the 109G-10 or the He-162 as they both look like fun builds.

Rick I agree with Jules.
I have a Trimaster 162 I plan to build and detail the hell out of the engine.

Might do that for this GB also.

While we're talking about what we might build, I've got a few kits that'll do perfectly for this GB. I've got the Italeri 1/48 262 (pretty much the tri-master kit)with Aeromaster decals and the pro-modeller 1/8 Me-410. Both look like great kits in the box. Might also try some armor for this on too.

RichardThe Revell 162 is a great kit, lots of detail both inside and out.

Aires have just brought out resin for the cockpit and wheel bays, and CMK are due to issue similar for the cannon bays and engine. Not sure if I'm going to bother with any of those on mine, might just use the Airwaves replacement wheels and ejector seat with a set of Fritz decals.

The MBI book is a worthwile investment as well, packed with excellent photos and drawings.

I have a Revell Me 262, Ar 234 (C model carrying the buzz bomb) and an Airfix Gloster Meteor mkIII. Give the time frame of this build and my iron will power that has kept me from joining any other GB lately I might try to do all 3 for this GB. (unless something else comes up that I just can't reist Clown [:o)])

Speaking of... is there still interest in doing an Atlantic GB at the beginning of next year. Can't remember who brought it up but seems to me it involved the usual suspects. My Revell Ju 290 is calling to me.

I am interested in the Atlantic GB also. However, there is a WWII Carrier Aircraft GB scheduled to start in March 06 listed in the Aircraft forum. I think I could come up with projects for both though....Wink [;)]

Question for the armor folks-anyone have any links to paint schemes that would have been used on the Marder III that fits the 1945 time frame,. i.e., Battle of Berlin, etc? Getting the urge to build a target....er, tank.....

Thanks

edit- really wish this forum had speeell check.....

Yeah guys we were talking about the Battle of the Atlantic GB a while back and i'm still interested, I have the Revell 1/72 Type VII U-Boat in the stash with the Eduard PE set, I've already closed the hull but i havn't touched it in 6 months and there is a whole heap of work left in it......I also picked up some resin figures at the annual QMHE show yesterday as well as some other goodies including the Eduard Profipac Sopwith Triplane and a few Coloured etch sets.....I was very suprised not to see any 1/72 U-Boats at the show only Revells old U-99 model which was hand painted....
So maybe we can start the Battle of the Atlantic GB early next year and run it for 6 months, that way i can enter my big U-boat in next years QMHE as well as the HE 219 that i'm building for this GB.............
But thats it for GB's next year for me, this one, the Battle of the Atlantic Gb and the Grumman Cat Gb...........

Alright!!!!! Battle of Atlantic is on. I'm thinking maybe it should run Feb 06 to the end of June 06. Give everyone a chance to get a head start on this one and then dive in. So mark it on your calendars everyone and I'll start a thread latter in the year after this build has kicked off.

I'll have a go at this Atlantic GB too I think. Would't mind doing another big ship to go with my 1/350 Bismarck I built a while ago. How about a Titanic?Wink [;)] Any 1/350 kits of the Hood out there?

Lets not forget about appeasing the wingy thingy gods fellas, a whole host of A/C flew as a part of the Battle of the Atlantic.............

Hmmmmmm.
Ship or Plane??????

Maybe a plane/ship.
Could do the Catalina that found the Bismarck, not sure if it's considered part of the BoA.

It most certainly is Tweets The Bismark and Prince Eugen sortied to attack the convoys in the North Atlantic.....Imagine the carnage they would have caused if they intercepted a convoy of 30 merchant ships escorted by only destroyers and corvettes..........

hmmm a dio of waves... North Atlantic wave of course... that would be classifed as fringe I believe.

If anyone complains I can say it is a dio of a U-boat wolfpack submerged and awaiting a convoy...

Haha that's great. Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D] I might consider doing another tamiya prinz eugen. IMHO the prinz Eugen is the most elegant ship to have evr sailed the seas...

Yeah Tom great ideaLaugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Maybe you could scratch build a periscope just to make it officialThumbs Up [tup]
Tanky I have to agree about the elegance of the Prince Eugen and her sisters but they do look like smaller versions of the Bismark and Tirpitz............

Alright everybody I’m back, it’s only been five days but feels like five months. I’ve been away at a work “love in” at a country retreat near Melbourne. Anyway enoungh of the work rubbish let me get back to modeling.

Battle of the North Atlantic huh, hmm I’ll have to think about that one (count for half a second) OK enough thinking, I’m in.

Now a question, what are the historical dates for this build as I have a 1/72 Type XXIII U-Boat that would love to be built for this one but I’m not sure if 1945 fits the “Battle of the Atlantic”. If not then there is always my Accurate Miniatures 1/48 TBF-1C Avenger with Battle of the Atlantic decals.

Must remember don’t overcommit to group builds, don’t overcommit to group builds....

Cheers
