Hang on......I'm building a King Tiger at the moment (my first go at building a target). Felt like doing something without too much filling or sanding needed. Just slap it together, paint and chuck some mud at it........Tongue [:P]

Hmmm seems like we all have an armour model in the stash, I reckon every now and then a Tank can be a good thing, no canopy to mask and for most tanks no complex camo jobs to mask and paint, the only thing i had to mask on my Panzer IV Flakpanzer was the inside of the turret the rest was all freehand..............

OK, I'll come out of the closet. Here's a Tamiya 1/35 Stuart I built early this year, just to try an Armor kit. Don't think I'll give up my day job building Aircraft Big Smile [:D].

I'm definately trying something a little different for this GB! It will be a Armor subject. Of what yet I'm not sure. Got plenty in the stash, but no Russian (for now!;-p)

Yeah, it's good to try something different. And I like not having to play around with any clear parts. I'm nearly finished my King Tiger (the new Dragon 1/35 kit), so I can get back to some aircraft.......

BTW, You might not like doing it so much Rick, but you're good at it. Nice build of that tank.

For me on this build I'm definitely doing something a bit different (for me anyway). I'm still waiting for DML to release their new M4A3E8 and Tom sorry but it is going to be a Sherman.

Tanky what T-80 do you have in the stash?

Daniel how about some progress shots on the Tiger, I'd love to see how it's turning out? Also, is that the kit with the magic tracks?

Rick nice build on the Stuart

William welcome to the build.

Cheers

Glad to see I'm not the only one making occasional trips to the darkside.

I'm really looking forward to having a go Tamiya's Late Panther G for this GB, especially after the Semovente on the NAGB.

The only thing that bugs me with armour is cleaning up and painting all those wheels. It's like 3 years of aircraft wheels in a one hitGrumpy [|(]

Daniel Post some progress pics.

I might post some pics of it soon fellas. I'm done with most of the building and painting, I jsu have to add the accesories like tools and cables.

Darren - It is the new Battle of the Bulge boxing of the King Tiger. Great kit. It has the Magic tracks, Turned Alloy gun barrel, metal tow cables, PE engine grills, brass ammo rounds and a heap of figures. I actually chose this kit because of the extras......Wink [;)]

I was looking at buying similar extras for the Panther, realised this armour modelling lark can work out quite expensive!

What with Aber PE for schurtzen, grilles and general what nots, indy link tracks, Jordio Rubio barrel it starts to get pricey.

That's what I liked about this kit Karl. All that extra stuff came in the box. And the dragon kit was still $15 cheaper than the Tamiya kit which didn't come with any extras.

Rick thats a fantastic build you have thereThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Karl your right on the money thing. When I built the Panzer I invested more in PE and stuff for that than I ever have on any a/c kit.

darren I have the dragon T-80. I also have the dragon 1944 ardennes king tiger version. it comes with 5 bonus figs and PE and turned aluminum gun barrel. I'm not sure how it's different from the battle of the bulge version though...

Rick thats a real beauty, I see your skills are totally transferable. I've never built any armour but I still want to build a T-34. I really like that tank. Maybe I'll get one for Christmas, just in time to add it to my FW-190d9 for this build. We'll see. Like Rick, I want to try it to see what armour is all about.

Thanks guys for all the comments on the Stuart. I build my aircraft fairly clean, but let my urge to weather get nearly out of control on the build. Hadn't built any Armor in over 20 years, so I was pretty rusty. Actually, I kinda enjoyed building it, except I find highly repetitive tasks like painting road wheels to be sorta boring. I used the rubber band tracks as trying to assemble the indies would drive me nuttier than I already am Big Smile [:D].

As long as we're coming out of the closet here,

It was soooooo hard to paint the whitewash as it would have been applied at the Battle of the Bulge. Fun build though-now I'm thinking of adding a piece of armor if time allows.......

::clearing throat:: no comment........ Wink [;)]

I'm about to find out all about those indies Rick as I also got the Tiger I Ardennes version, and even got the right paint this last weekend to paint it in... not sure I want to do it for this build as there already seems to be a growing plethora of armor around for it. I guess I choose the fringy way out and do the S-100 as S-103 (I believe) captured near Russia and given to them... I'll have to find that site again as the build draws near and give the full history...
