If it ain't broke, don't fix it.....of course I'm sure that there were systems issues that necessitated the changes, but it's gonna take me a while to get used to the new format.  Oh bother....

same here Bob... I'm a bit of a stick in the mud when it comes to change though.  My first reaction to it was "it's too bright" then after playing around a bit I decided I like the edit box here a lot better.  Seems to be less misspellings going on at least for me...

I'm going into stealth mode tonight and research the heck out of this and find something that fits my build and quest for fringe.. (and my pocketbook... seems the wife made an error when I asked her to stop by and pick up the dog's heartworm pills... she bought a years supply for all three of them which cost me about $500 US....  Sad [:(]

I'm getting used to the new Format & kinda like it.  I think the trade of the Stars & Rankings for Avatars was a good one, adds a touch more personality to the members.  I don't see much improvement in functionality, in fact some loss here & there, but I don't think that was the reason for the switch.

Personally I'm still lost but I haven't really had the time to check it all out yet and it seams that things are still a bit buggy. Like, why don't I see any of the edit buttons at the moment? I'm sure that in time we won't even remember the little twinkly stars. OH ya... and the part I really hate... Having to look at an Oiler hosting the cup every time Jay posts! Blleeeeech!!! At least Rick has a really cool avatar! Nice one Rick. (i'd do a thumbs up but can't find the botton and it doesn't work when I try to type it in)

I'm starting to get used to the new format too. I'd like the quick edit feature back at the bottom of each page, but I can live without it. I've got no problem with losing the stars either. One question for you chaps. How do you post pics now? I tried the old way last night and it didn't work for me.

BTW, I've been sniffing plastic (and resin) too. Just starting to plan how I'm gonna put this thing together. It could be a bit tricky with all that resin, but I'll figure something out. One things for sure....It's gonna be a heavy model when it's finished.

My feeling is the forum is generally the same, we just have to get used to the new tools.  Rick I love your avatar and I agree that it adds a little bit more personallity to our posts.  I laughed when I saw yoursLaugh [(-D], I thought it kinda fits you, and Darren's is pretty good too.

I'm glad most of us are keeping the same names, it still feels like home that way...Approve [^]

Dave, about my avatar - suck it up princess!  Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

I long for the good ol' glory days back in the 80's when the Oilers were a real powerhouse.  Oh well, at least hockey is back on.

I agree that like it or loath it the new look is here to stay so we may as well get used to it.  For me there are some likes and some not likes.  Oh and I'm keeping my stars (for while at least).

Likes

  • The look
  • It works better (to a point) with Firefox
  • The Avatars
  • Ease of editing and formatting new messages.

Not Likes

  • I can't see all the posts on a page when I'm replying.  I need to have two browser windows open (this is a pain).
  • The lack of stars.  Have a peek at Armorama to see how they have combined Avatars and rank.
  • This may be my imagination, but things seem to load slower now.

Marc, where did you find the build up article, I'd like to have a read of that myself?

Cheers

Good old Alfred E. has been my Avatar on a different Forum for a couple of years, so I just copied him over here.  Now, I just have to remember which Forum I'm on Smile [:)].  The GB starts in 3 weeks & the timing is perfect for me.  I'm finishing up a couple of other builds & will be able to jump on the kits for this GB without much waiting.

Darren

Here are a couple that I found.  The 1st one is a  1st look by Jerry Crandall and he points out some problems... some that can be done, some that are acceptable and one, the curve in the cowl with the curved hinge , That I have no idea what I am going to fix... yetWink [;)]  The second goes through about 10 pages of different aspects of the build.

Again I am debating changinh my build to the academy la-7... the decals I got come with markings for some famous aces- alexei sergeevich kumanichkin (31 GPW kills 6 KW kills) is probably the one I'm going to choose...

You sound surprised!

Still getting used to the new look........

.....not sure at the moment.

Great, a change manager who hates changes!

Have just ordered the Tamiya Panther G Late in 1/35, along with the Eduard PE and the Jordio Rubio replacement barrel. All of which has lightened my bank balance by around £50, or $90!!!!!!!

Armour modelling is definitely for the rich kids!

Next month I might be able to afford the Friul tracks and Schurzen! I will probably have to cancel Xmas to do this though. haven't told the wife and kids that, yet!

EDIT Quote function does not work!!!!!!!

Do ya think there is any left for me???

If I'm lucky I'll get a Bf109 box with a stick in itSad [:(]

Having spoken to your bank manager I wouldn't bet on the stick being in the box!

I know Xmas is a time for giving, but do I really have to give soooooo much?

Obviously giving to my LHS is a different matter all together!

I would try and quote my previous post mentioning the fact the quote function doesn't work......but it wouldn't work!!!

Am I supposed to have the option of adding emoticons?

I'm sure I did at work, but not here at home.

Karl, about having different options at home and work, I remember reading in a post in the tesing section (I think) where is was discovered that different browsers will show different things.  I think one guy was wanting html editing and it showe dup in some peoples web pages and not others.

My FW-190D9 is patiently waiting inside it's box.  I think this will be a fun build as I have't ever done a German bird with my Airbrush yet.  I think it'll be a good starter as the AM decals I got all have rather basic paint schemes with little mottle.  Still haven't decided which decal set to use though, they all look really interesting.  Maybe I'll have to get the Academy D9 and the Tamiya D9 to see the differences and so I can use the other decals.  hmmm... Christmas is coming!Wink [;)]

Jay, if you'e doing 1/72, the Tamiya is probably the best kit, but the Academy is also very good except the tailplanes are too small.  Actually, I prefer the older Hasegawa kit for accuracy, but it lacks the detail found in the Tamiya/Academy boxings.

Jay I use MS Outlook at work, which gives me the emoticon option, but Safari on a Mac at home. On the old forum app. the emoticon option was displayed differently on the two browsers, but it was at least still there.

The retailer that I work for routinely tests it's website against all the well known browsers to make sure this sort of thing doesn't happen. Having said that, I bet we make more money out of our web site than Kalmbach do out of this one!

Sounds like Santa might have a couple of little D-9s for you this year.

Darren, I had a thought that I am carrying over from the suggestions and feedback section http://www.finescale.com/FSM/CS/forums/542617/ShowPost.aspx

In a nutshell - Back in the BoB GB, I wanted to go back and see some finished pics of other's builds but had no idea what pages they were on.  For the Canadian GB, when participants complete their build, I add a note that tells what page their pics are on.  I know some people keep their pics only for a short time on what ever digital image hosting website they use but it in the meantime it can help others view their pics (I like to keep my pics up for the duration of a build and a little bit afterward).  Just a thought?Thumbs Up [tup]

Rick, I found a really neat article on hyperscale (I think) where a guy compared the airfix and the Tamiya 1:72 Doras.  The guy cleaned up the airfix by rescribing the panel lines and adding a new canpy and I couldn't tell the difference in his two aircraft.  I was thinking of doing something similar by getting a series of different 1:72 Dora kits.  I think I really like the looks of the Doras, it is quickly moving up my favourite airplane list and I haven't even started the kit yet! Smile [:)]

Jay i did the same thing with the North African GB, when a member finished i added date finished and the page the pics were on to page one.......

Speaking of the NA GB here is a little pic of the suprise build i was working on but failed to finish in time, i took this pic with my Mobile/Cell Phone so the quality is crap, the kit is now finished and i should have that new 5mp camera by the end of next week so i'll post up some decent pics in about a week or so.......

And getting back to the previous BoB GB, just in case any of the "Suspects" didn't see my build here it is again......

Nice 109's Jules!

Ok, I am still searching for a second build subject for this GB.

Having a hell of a time finding 190A-6's and G-3's that have accurate dates that fit the time frame.

Johnsons Spit is a given, only question I have for some of you guys is the landing struts. What colour are they????

I've been searching the web for images, but nothing is really clear or close enough to identify.

The kit instructions say their supposed to be silver, but that doesn't seem right.

Just a little confused.

Darren - Question for you mate..... I've got a FW-190D-11 kit that I've started but put back in the box a while ago. I'm planning on doing it as a D-13 Yellow 10 so it's suitable for this GB. Is it alright for me to enter it in this build seeing as though I've already started it but stopped working on it? Thought it might be a violation of international group build law or something.

Jules - Nice 109 mate. I don't think I ever saw that one finished when the BoB GB was on. Better late than never eh?
