Tanky, You're building Kozehdub's  La-7 right?  what scale?  I've been thinking about getting a La-7 or La-5. How is the Academy offering?

Rick and Karl, okay, okay so it really isn't me, I can dream a bit can't I?Smile [:)] and no, Karl I look nothing like Danny Devito! I'm taller, much better looking and with a lot less money in the bank...Big Smile [:D]

I was just at the LHS and I almost bought two more Fw-190-D9s, Rick (the LHS owner) had the Hasegawa 1:72 for $14.00 and the Academy 1:72 for $11.00.Shock [:O] I just was afraid of what the wife would say, especially with Christmas around the corner.  So alas, I left the LHS with only my vacform Boly canopy...Sigh [sigh]

Jay, no not Kozhedub's. I've had enough of everyone building Kozhedub's, so I'm either building Lavrynenkov's, Bojkov's, or Kumanichkin's. Leaning towards Bojkov simply because of the excellent paint and decals scheme on his plane. The Academy offering is very nice. A cockpit replacement is mandatory however and wiring and detail needs to be added to the wheel wells and exhaust stacks scratchbuilt for the covers. Other than that it is a beautiful kit, and I think I'd reccomend it over the Gavia which has significant dimensional problems.

12 days to go and I have a decision to make.  Do I stay with the build that I am planning to do?  As mentioned I am going to make the Fw190D-9 that I made for that GB in 1/48 but in 1/24 with the Trumpeter kit.  There a very big inaccuracy in the kit that I have been pondering for a while and it may well be beyond my skills to correct… at the point anyway.  The engine cowl has a curve in it that is not supposed to be there.  What make it so noticeable is the hinges for the cowl are curved.  Curved hinges don’t work very well and there aren’t any resin corrections available.  If I said that I was building OOB then it would be easy, in my mind anyway, to simply acknowledge that the problems exist but it is an OOB build and that’s just the way it has to be.  But I am planning on doing some detailing to this build and many of the other documented problems I should be able to correct.

I was hoping that by the end of typing this out it would have helped me decide but nuts if it didn’tSad [:(].  I know that nobody can tell me what to do so I will ask… what would you do?  Build with that one problem and let that be that or wait?  If nothing else… it’s something else to fill the time for the 12 days to KICK OFF.

Tanky-some nice looking stuff from Legends.  The detail on the 1/48 figures is pretty good.  Would a 109 pilot look or be uniformed different than a 190 pilot?  I am thinking about it since there is one in 1/24.

Might have to delay the start of my build for this one by a few weeks. I want to finish my Avenger before I start the 410. Don't wanna have two super-detail jobs going on at the same time......

Marc - I'd say, if it doesn't bother you too much, I wouldn't worry about it. Don't worry about what anyone else thinks. The 190D-13 I'm building has alot of in-accuracies, but I'm not gonna fix them because it doen't matter too much to me. I'd rather have a nice looking in-accurate model sitting on my shelf than one sitting in the bin because I tried to correct it. That's my My 2 cents [2c] anyway, others might feel differently.

Marc - I say let it go... if that is the only inaccuracy the kit has that is that noticable I wouldn't worry... none of us are rivet counters here an d we enjoy building for the fun of it... (re: the Black "K" Martlet with noseart I made up just for the fun of it in the N. Africa GB)  How do you mean curved though?  I have a Hasegawa 190 and I was just curious if this one is inaccurate as well..

---edit---  actually this may be a moot point as I was having a disagreement with the missus the other day and made a great show of telling her I would just stop modeling and lost the cowl from mine I believe... Disapprove [V]

Yeah I have pretty much decided to fix what I can and leave the rest.  I don't consider myslef a rivet counter but if I could fix it I would.   But like you said Daniel,,, better on the shelf than in the bin.

And Tom... quit modeling??? Surely that was something you said for show... in the heat of the moment!Wink [;)]

Jay, Jay, Jay Jay Jay... Jay! Sigh!!!! (shaking head in disbelief) Leave it to you to bring back something from Aquilonia of the Hyborian Age. Ah yes, scantily clad women and dark sorcerers in abundance. Everything a zit faced teen needed! Okay... I admit it! I was a comic book (and model building) geek as a teen. Shocking I know!!

Jay, there's no harm in dreaming, except you did know Kremps had a thing about Arnie didn't you?

Marc, I wouldn't worry too much about the odd innacuracy, I know I don't! Main thing, just enjoy the build process, and the finished article.

Like Daniel, I'm going to be late kicking off on this GB, as I'm, making slow progress on my CR42, and the 109G10 is currently stalled. I want to finish at least one before I break open the Panther or the He 162.

Actually over in Houston there are lots of "No Tell Motels" ...right next to "therapeutic massage parlors" Wink [;)]

I should open one next to the LHS just for modelers, pay by the hour with a coin operated compressor and spray booth in each room...

Hi there everybody, well I'm back on board after a very nice and relaxing weekend break.  I hope you all are either had a nice weekend as well.

Now I know this is going back a bit but,

Jay, my avatar is Nurse Charlotte Diesel from the Mel Brooks movie High Anxiety. It's not Brooke's best work but it's still a great laugh.  My favourite Mel Brooke's movie is Young Frankenstein btw.

Tanky, any chance of a couple of shots of that Legend La-7 cockpit and also have you checked out what the fit is like?

Marc I have to agree with the others, just fix what you can and don't worry about the rest.  Know body is going to know except you.

Tom you seem to know an aweful lot about the locations of these "therapeutic massage" establishments there in Houston.  Btw, isn't Thanksgiving coming up soon for you guys in the states?

Oh yeah, only 9 days to go Thumbs Up [tup]

Cheers all

I think we should celebrate Thanksgiving in the UK too.

After all we did manage to offload a boat load of religious zealots onto the New World!Wink [;)]

You guys were happy they turned up, we were just happy that they left!

Favourite Mel Brookes film has to be Blazing Saddles.

BTW, I'm only posting from work at the moment as the forum is just plain useless from home, whichever browser I use! Angry [:(!]

Thanksgiving in the US is this Thursday, the 24th.  I second Blazing Saddles as the favorite MB flick, with Young Frankenstein a very close second.

Blazing Saddles,  mmm good show, but I'll have to say Space balls for my fav though.

For the first time I'll have three models on the go.  I just started my 1:48 Hasegawa Ki-43-I for the Japanese Aircraft GB. I also have a Bolingbroke for the Canadian GB.  Soon this one!  I think the FW190-D9 should be a quick build.Tongue [:P]

Dave - me too (pimple-faced, geeky teenager memory)  I think I still have several of the paperback novels in a box somewhere deep under the stairs.

OK dim question here:

Has anyone fed back to Kalmbach that the all singing, all dancing new forum, is only that for certain browsers?

Because to be honest, I'm pretty brassed at the almost total lack of functionality I'm now left with from home.

I had a look around just now but couldn't see any threads on the matter.

On a lighter note the Panther turned up today.....WOW!!!!

I put the hull next to my only other AFV in 1/35 the Semovente.....the latter looks like part of Tamiya's 1/48 range!!!

Also got the Eduard PE and Jordio Rubio barrel, both stunning. I'll try and post some pics when I figure out how.

Karl I don't think anybody has given specific technical feedback to the forum admins about the problems you are having.  What you might want to consider is posting a thread in Odds & Ends as David Voss hangs out there quite often.

I'm glad to hear that all the bits for the Panther have arrived, I'm looking forward to lots of progress pics on that one.  Tell me how does the Jordio Rubio barrel compare length and detail wise to the kit supplied item?

Cheers

Karl, you should have gotten the Aber PE. This is truly stunning because you whack yourself forcefully in the head with a large stick as punishment for getting yourself into this PE nightmare. I hear you about armor being expensive though. My current armor project is the most expensive project i have ever worked on, I don't care to metnion how much. But I'll give you an equation to see if you fellows can solve it. (pretty easy one though)

3x+772=1672

It took me months to save up for it, and in the end it only got off the ground with some parental assistance...

I have a T-34 with the works also. Dragon kit, Trakz resin interior, Aber PE, CMD resin cast turret conversion and Modelkasten tracks. I am really looking forward to starting that one, particularly because I found some camo it can wear instead of the monotone russian green. Plus with Adam Wilder's excellent DVD on weathering the same kit I have, I want to really try hard at finishing properly.

3x+772=1672

Shock [:O]  good god man!  are you insane??????  if 3x+772=1672, then x/3+40 = about the most I have spent on one kit plus goodies so far!  I guess we could blow this off to youth and high spirits but I worry about you younger guys... what if you can't get that monkey off your back???  Wink [;)]

Karl, I did post a topic in the feedback section regarding the lack of functionality on the Mac and did get a response from David. Basically we are screwed for awhile but he did say there are some upgrades coming in the near future and he is hopeful they will help the situation.

Darren  I'll probably add a note to the thread that Dave started, as the browser changes required at the Kalmbach end should be minor, and certainly do not require an upgrade! I know it shouldn't bother me but I just find it annoying that anyone could roll out such a poorly developed application, hazard of my job! Disapprove [V]

I haven't compared the JR barrel for length with the Tamiya item, but detail wise it is way ahead, especially the cast muzzle brake. Still don't have all the bits though, next month I'm going to have to order the Friul tracks and the Schurtzen required for the tank I'm building. The schurtzen in the kit are just way too thick.

Tanky I've seen the Aber PE set for the PantherShock [:O]. Couldn't face that, just too much PE for me. The Eduard set is pretty good, and not too pricey either.

And that is an awful lot of money to spend on a single build. Having said that the Panther will probably come in at around the £90-100 ($170-185) mark!!!! I don't think I've ever spent more than £40 on an A/C build even with AM!

Dave I'll look up that thread and add my My 2 cents [2c] for what it's worth.

Marc what I find relaxing is the wine that I drink while I'm enjoying other peoples cooking Big Smile [:D]

Tanky three words for you my friend, Oh My God Shock [:O].  If ever contemplated spending that much on modeling... well let's say that that I would be talking in a very high voice after SWMBO got through with me.
I know what you mean about those Aber PE sets as well.  I've got one for the M4A3 Sherman which I have never had the courage to use, some of the things they expect you to do with a 2mm piece of PE are just insane.
Good luck with your T-34 btw.

Karl I sure hope they get the issues sorted out soon because you can guarantee if it's effecting you and Dave then it's got to be impacting other users as well.  But you've gotta love the old "it'll be fixed in the next release" line, boy if I had $1 for every time I heard that from a vendor I'd have almost enough money to buy Tanky's T-34 and all it's bits Wink [;)]

Cheers

That's what worries me!

The forum has certainly seemed a lot quieter since the switch over. I'm not sure if that's due to the re-registration process, or frustration with the new format.

You'd need an awful lot of vendors before you could pay for Tanky's T34.Shock [:O]

And I know exactly what you mean about some of the Aber PE. The working hinges are just too much, even in 1/35!

The Panther is my first Tamiya kit in 20 years, and only my second ever. It's certainly a very impressive package from the glossy box to the clear concise instructions. Really looking forward to this build.

OMG I can't believe I'm looking forward to building a target. Worse than that, I've asked Santa for more.

Karl

EDIT: Speeeeeling!

Karl-two quick questions-first-is this the 1/35th scale?

Second-does it come with instructions that show paint schemes/decals that fit the criteria of this GB?

Saw one at Hobby Lobby last time and almost purchased it....and they are about due for a 50% off sale.  Of course, there is the 40% off coupon in this weeks ad.

thanks
