Well lads it's December the first and the first day of Summer (for us southerners anyway), so break out the CA, PE, resin, spue cutters and your kits and start building.

WE HAVE COMMENCED!

Dave, looks like you'll be the last one starting due to time zone differences, unless there is someone from Hawaii or Alaska out there...Wink [;)]

I was thinking on this very subject this morning fellas... technically the GB starts on Dec 1st and technically it already is... I'm not starting tonight for the sole reason I messed around paying bills and staring into space too long and it's almost time for TV... (ok maybe I'll go cut a part off the sprue just for posterity's sake)

By the same token when the GB ends I think the last person to reach 08May is the cut off, which is probably Dave, but the rest can go by that too .  (i.e. start on the earliest time zone to reach the date and end on the latest time zone)  it's only fair  Wink [;)]  I call this whole theory MST.  and right now it is 7:36 MST (Modelers Savings Time)

What do you think of that Darren?

So, I've glued my wing halves together.....that's about it for now.  oh yeah and I filled a sink hole on the starboard fuslege.  Gotta love Airfix.  Big Smile [:D]

I'm not sure how much more I'll do as  I got my boly fuselage scribed for the Canadian GB so now I can work on the interior, maybe cause I'm going to scratch both interiors, I can do them at the same time!  Tongue [:P]

I decided to start the Hasegawa 1/32 FW-190A8 for my first build.  Started on the cockpit this morning.  Have to say this is a beautiful kit.

In my post of 9:03 PM last night I said it was doubtful I would make it to midnight.  I barley made t to 9:04Sleepy [|)].  But it is still Dec 1 and SOMETHING WILL BE GLUED TODAY!Angry [:(!]

Yesterday and today HS has new products to upgrade the 1/24 190 D-9 by Contact Resine.  A cockpit set and new tire.  Nice looking stuff but their market research kind of stinks.  There is already a nice, and more complete resin/PE detail set by Verlinden that has more than justthe pit and given the fact that there probably isn’t a HUGE market for the 1/24 D-9 (cheaper all the time) why make another.  They also released a new tire… very nice improvement but they did not do a tail wheel. If you saw the tail wheel from the kit, and my post in the a/c forum, “My kingdom for a tail wheel” you would immediately see what an error that was.

Rick - I built that one and must agree 100% with you... everything went together well, a fair amount of detail in the cockpit (Seat with belts, reminiscent of ultracasts stuff)  Nice thin clear parts that look GREAT futured up...

I wouldn't imagine tanky.. it is a nonexistent empire now..

imagine the look on the Chief of the Watch's face when I came back drunk from a night on the town in Palma Mallorca, Spain and me trying to get back on board the ship wearing a clean white shirt... with a large red hammer and sickle on the front and neat crisp letters spelling CCCP underneath it... back in the cold war they didn't look kindly on things like that...

Jules I saw this article on the He 219 on Hyperscale this morning, it looks pretty good and I thought it might be of some help

Despite earlier warnings that I wouldn't be starting this GB on time, I just couldn't resist getting started on the Panther.

I've cleaned up half the road wheels, along with the mantlet, engine hatches etc. Wasn't in the mood for doing anything strenous last night, so clean up seemed appropriate, and strangely relaxing too!

I've fitted the Jordio Rubio gun barrel to mantlet, and it looks just sooooooo pretty.Big Smile [:D]

Darren I saw that article on Hyperscale too, but to tell you truth I think that are better looking 219 builds in their gallery, like this:

Well fellas, there's bugger all going on at my modelling desk at the moment. The Avenger I started a month ago is still at the cockpit stage. I'm determined to get some build time in this weekend. All this means I won't be starting my Me-410 for at least a few weeks. I want to get something finished before I start on that project (it's gonna be a big one too with all that AM stuff).

Tanky, don't worry about your build you can change it as many time as you like it doesn't worry me and as to your avatar, I don't see what there is to worry about.  With the amount of guys around here with various Nazi related bits and pieces in their sigs, I don't see how an old Soviet emblem is going to worry anyone.

Tom I know what you mean about your tee shirt story.  I once turned up on parade with a one of those Chinese chairman Mao hats with a red star on it after a visit to China (btw I did not wear the hat on parade, I just bought it with me to show the other guys).  Needless to say that a couple of Vietnam veteran sergeants didn't think it was entirety appropriate and let me know in no uncertain terms Blush [:I].

Karl
, I agree that that build in your post is far superior (jaw dropping to be exact), it's just that the info contained in this mornings Hyperscale article was pretty good.

:::Progress report:::
Ok no surprises here but a 1/32 262 kit has a lot of parts Tongue [:P].  There are about 30 odd parts to the forward gun assembly alone.  This is not a bad thing, it just means that the kit will truly have to be broken down into sub assemblies with each one treated as a minor kit.

So far my overall impressions are good, there's a little (tiny) flash to be cleaned off but the detail is excellent.  The fit ranges (so far) from great to so-so, so this will need a lot of test fitting before any glue is applied.  This kit looks good to date apart for the unreachable sink marks in the forward wheel well, but will require care and some filler to get a good result.

Cheers

Ahhh, gotta hand to the women that put up with our hobby.

Mine is pretty supportive, considering how much time I have spent on it. Nothing since we moved in here, but now this GB has started that will have to change.

Bless her little cotton socksAngel [angel]

Which ironically I set fire to a couple of years back while she was wearing themEvil [}:)]

Well I have managed to coat the c/p tonight, and some finer details will be done over the weekend.

This Hase kit is pretty straight forward, and a pretty decent fit.

Shouldn't take to long to knock the Spit off, then onto the FW 190.

I still plan to make 'White 2' that surrendered on May 8th, and so far I am 80% positive on the camo scheme for this bird, but it looks as though thats all that I can find, so I dunno if thats acceptable or not to complete for this GB.

Whatcha reckon Darren?

And Pingy, are you still after Soviet red star decals??

Darren, I thought the article was good, I just wasn't very impressed by the model. Alright it was better than anything I've built, but having seen the other build.......

Boy, would I love to hear the story behind that one!

Did a little painting on the Tamiya Me-262 this am-got fuselage interior sprayed aluminum (not that it all of it will be visible, but it seemed like the the thing to do....) along with the rest of the interior painted RLM 66 (I think).  Went to the LHS and picked up RLM 74/75/76-decided to do Heinz Bar's "Red 13".  With a little luck, might get the interior together this weekend.  Still have the "Old Guns" GB project needing some work.

Engine of the D-9 is coming together... nothing picture worthy yet.  I think I may have figured out a plausible correction for the tail wheel.  This might need a couple of pics when i get to it.

Engine progresses… cut away molded plumbing and added new from solder.  Tail wheel is done.  I have been looking at other completed D9 models at HS and it looked like a few had a spoke wheel.  So I came up with this.  It may not be perfect or exactly correct but when someone make a resin replacement… well that will take care of that.

The kit junk & 1/48 P-51 hubs (from the chrome Tamiya-waiting to have the chrome peeled off).

The hubs chucked in the Dremel to sand off the very wide rim, to reduce size and make perfectly round.

New rims (Evergreen strips) installed and old wheel drilled out.

Completed halves.

Nicely done Mark

How do you plan on striping the chrome??

I've never tried, so am kinda curious.

As for the Spit, finished the c/p and currently waiting for the glue to dry after joining the fuse halves.

I really like the way I can drop the c/p assy in after the fuse has dried, alot different from the 109 kits I'm used to.

But it looks as if the wing assembly isn't gonna sit to well seeing as the lower wing spar is warped right in the middle.

Time to boil the kettle me thinks.

Well, just have to let the decals cure on the Dragon King Tiger for my build and I can dull coat and be done!!!

hahah ok... In reality I managed to get the idler arms on one side of the hull and the exterior detail except for the tools and cable and such on the upper deck as well.  I have about 8 trees of parts and countless PE and metal bits to stick on before I am done... not even worth taking pics.  I do have to say this won't be the last piece of armor for me.  I am enjoying not having the long seam joins for a change (fuselage and wings) and this kit has some superb detail in it.

I am looking hard to find a "fringe" camo scheme, something besides the tri color ambush scheme I always see.  Even a plain one color one would be nice...  I think I have some pics of single color KT's but the photos are in B&W so I can only assume they are green...  I'll have to see if I can dig something up in color.

I'm liking that signature quote Tom!! Very appropriate nowadays me thinks. I'm playing around trying to find some cool quotes as well.

The Dr. KT is a greta kit. I have a verlinden resin engine for mine.
