SNOW DAY!!!! yipeee, finally sometime to get some building done. thank you nature, thank you. I'll gte the fw-190 on the bench soon. it ought to be a pretty quick build because it'll be pretty much straight OOB and the fit of the kit is great except and the wing roots.

A painting disaster has been averted.  Shook the new jar for what seemed like forever, poured some out, thinned it, stirred it, sprayed it and it started to kind of bubbled up on the pin and fuselage interior.  Turned out the pigment was still in a solid mass at the bottom of the jar and I just thinned already thin paint.

Now, for this Eastern Front GB... I am most assuredly in.  At my club meeting last night I won, for a $5 ticket, a Trumpeter 1/16 T-34 tank.  OMG… 765, or something like that, pieces…  1 of the hatches is like 14 parts by itself.  3 boxes of parts inside the one HUGE box.  If this is what the armor guys get to play with… I may have to request a trade to the other team.

That is a wonderful deal nut!! I'd kill for a deal like that. Those go for over 100$!! Good luck with the build when you start.

I want to find one of the old Tamiya motorized kits, or some of the (I think) Dragon ones I saw on an online site the other day.. I didn't think they made them anymore.  I remember my dad made me the Tamiya M-42 Duster when I was a kid, it was motorized and I felt so cool, until my neighbor showed up with both a halftrack and a M-41 Walker Bulldog motorized and tried to make me feel bad..

I came back with "yeah ...  but my tank has TWO guns!!!"  Wink [;)]

I'd like to build it just for posterities sake...

On the same note Wal Mart has a radio control 1/18 Panzer (forgot which one) for $49 right now, they also have a 1/18 M113 which is mislabeled on the box as WWII German Armor haha.. has lots of stowage goodies on the hull though, tools, jerry cans etc... if they were painted and the whole thing weathered it would look pretty cool.  I think I might buy the panzer one though.. to relive those childhood moments.. and laugh because my (childhood) neighbor's tank only went in ONE direction...

Progress Update

Absolutely nothing to report!!!

Have to order some more paint, kinda forgot an essential colour for the camo scheme, and haven't had time to do much modelling this past week due to Christmas invites (read-booze ups)

Tradesman drink far too much and far too often.

Took me 2 days to recover from the work Chrissy party. My toenails still hurt!!

Hopefully this week will be a tad more productive.

Pingy-Send me your address and I'll get those decals off too you asap

Whats this chatter about an Eastern Front GB????

Marc, paint should always be stirred, not shaken.  I use long pieces of sprue from the kits as free paint stirrers.  Use em once & toss em.

I think my LHS has the Abrams, it certainly looks 1/9th!

They also have some 1/48 RC Tigers in various camo schemes, pretty cool, but still not a patch on the 1/16 Tamiya Tiger they've got on the wall.

Talking of T34/85s, as Marc was, they've also got one of those in in 1/16, pre-assembled.

Progress Update

Started spraying the tyres on the road wheels........

........have now realised just how many a wheels a Panther has!!!!!!

Also started spraying the interior of the turret, pre-shaded with RLM66, followed by a coat of my favourite primer, which has a creamy off-white colour.

No pictures yet, and still wating on the Friuls and the rest of the PE.

Karl-just how bad are the vinyl tracks in the Panther kit?  I'm thinking about ordering the Tamiya individual tread/links rather than the metal type (about half the price).  And does anyone in the group have experience with the Tamiya indy treads-good/bad/indifferent?

Little progress on the Me-262-interior painted-might try to dry brush & assemble this week, but the schedule doesn't look good.

ooooohhhh... I might have to go back and see if they have one near me.. that would be COOL!  I also saw a R/C F-7E at Radio Shack today with a genuine turbofan... looked pretty cool and it was only $59.00, I'm trying to decide wether to get that, a hovercraft they had or a tank... I do live on the lake so a hovercraft would be cool!

---edit---

oh yeah... should be able to put the base coat of dunkelgelb down on the tiger II tonight.. I decided that painting the minor color first, then maskin and painting the olivgrun would ave me the most time... right now I am still trying to find the clear bits for the canopy... they didn't seem to include them  Wink [;)]

Well, after a time out for Christmas decorating & assorted other Honey Do tasks, I can finally post some progress on my 1/32 Hasegawa FW190A-8.  The pit is now finished & major assembly can commence Smile [:)].

Very nice pit Rick. Is that OOB? Decals on the IP or the 2-hair brush?

It's mostly OOTB.  I had the Eduard PE Instrument Panel, but it looked very two dimensional in this scale, so I used the Kit IP & applied the instrument decals individually after punching them out with my punch & die set. The side consoles are a mix of PE, decal & hand brush painting.  The seat belts are from the Eduard PE detail set.  Each belt is made up from 6 separate parts.  Multiply that by 4 belts & it was a tedious & fiddly bit of PE assembly.

Wow!!! That's a great looking pit Rick, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with the rest of the kit.

Not much progress from me either in the modeling business. I did get my new work bench set up though so I don't have anymore excuses.

Bob, the vinyl tracks look pretty good detail wise, But having seen them on completed builds they don't appear to have the right 'weight' to them.

The Tamiya kit comes with some of the individual link tracks for use as spares on the side of the hull. They don't look too bad, not sure how they fit together though. I tried Googling for some more info on using these tracks, as the cost of the MK and Friuls is pretty scary to say the least, but with little joy.

Tom, this lack of canopies thing takes a little getting used too. I was painting the turret interior yesterday, thinking how I'd have to complete that before I started on the external paint work.....

.......D'oh!!!! The turret is detachable!

Re-read the Eduard instructions for the fenders, muppet here can't tell the difference between a 'file' symbol and a 'remove' symbol, hence removing that which I should simply have filed flat!Banged Head [banghead]

Anyway the missing areas have now been rebuilt with sheet styrene, and I've even added weld seams to the underside of the sponsons. How idiotically pleased am I with that????Big Smile [:D]

Looks beautiful Rick.  I don't think I'll be able to replicate that on my 1:72 Fw190-D9s!

 >>BTW Darren, you can put me down for TWO Fw190-D9's. Shock [:O] Yes, I'm getting another dora kit, this time the Hasegawa 1:72 kit.  On the weekend, my wife and I were out shopping and she saw a cute little nativity figurine set that was 15$ she really wanted.  So I made deal with her, she could get it if I could get this one model at the LHS for 14$Evil [}:)].  We agreed that it would be kind of like our own little Christmas present to ourselves.Big Smile [:D].  Can you believe the Hasegawa kit is only 14$ (CDN mind you).  Normally that kit is like 26$ here!  Now I just have to get to the LHS and get my grubby paws on it!

Thanks Jay.  I admit it would be kinda difficult to replicate that much detail in 1/72, but I've seen some that come real close.  None of them were mine unfortunately Smile [:)].

Rick, apologies on not commenting on the 190 pit, but I've been posting from work, so can't see the pics. I'm sure it looks great though.

Bob, the Friuls turned up yesterday for my Panther. I now understand why these things are like cat nip to treadheadsWink [;)]. They are truly stunning, and look to require minimal clean up. I'll post some comparison pics with the Friuls, Tamiya indys and Tamiya rubber band tracks, when I get a chance.

Rick - super job on the 190 office.  Looking forward to more.

Got started on the 1/32 Hasegawa Me-163 a few days ago while building for another GB so here is where I am as of now.

Here is the seat with Eduard belts:

Added the IP and rocket motor:
