Nice progress Richard.

I agree... not a lot of to the rocket motor.   Given the nature of T stoff and C stoff... it seemed to be more of a way to control the explosion of the mix that to make it go.  And too bad for the poor guy that put the wrong one into the worng tank.  Don;t want to mix that before it's supposed to be.

A little progress made.  I have finally stopped gawking at the 1/16 T-34... for now anyway.

Pit for the 1/24 190 D-9 close to done... working on the belts now.  The small gauges are decal and the big ones picked out with a toothpick and silver paint.  I should have put something in the pic for scale... big and heavy.   I hope the LG will hold it all up.   The nav chart is a real one found online, resized to about 2 sq. inches and folded to fit in the case on the bulkhead.  Leather strap is wine foil.  The Verlinden set comes with some nice ribs for the interior of the auxiliary tank area and an updated tank.  Access hatch has been cut from the other fuselage half.  Elevator cables are solder.

Karl-thanks.  I'm also interested in the assembly process, tools required, etc.  Will be following your progress with much interest.

Bob, I better post some pics then!

Spent half an hour last night assembling the schurzen supports from the Edurad PE set. These are a massive improvement over the kit items, even if they are a complete Censored [censored] to fold up, because the lip that requires folding is about 1mm wide, but about 4 inches long.

Richard, looks like that 163 is really taking shape. Looks great.

Marc, the Dora looks really good.  I've seen others do the trick with the map you did and it looks great!  I would like to try on of these moster scale birds but I have no idea where I'd put it.  All my shelves take 1:48 or smaller...Sad [:(]  Nothing to report on my Doras.

Looking good Richard! Great progress guys, I haven't had much time for mine.

Hey all, I noticed we were over 1000 posts on this build already and I went searching for the BoB GB. When the last post was entered in July it had 2563 replies and 22,004 views.  That means this GB is half way there and we're only a couple weeks in!!!! Shock [:O]  Way to pick'em Darren!  Big Smile [:D]Thumbs Up [tup]

Now everybody, a certain Allied Aces GB has been posted....Whistling [:-^]

Richard , great progress on that 163.

Marc, the pit looks stunning, I love the map.

Dave, finally got to see the pit, very nice.

Jay, observed and duly noted!

Finally some pictures from me.

Panther in a box.

All my builds go into a large storage box during construction to try and keep things together.

This shows off the Jordio Rubio barrel, attached temporarily. The muzzle break still requires clean up.

The turret interior...

...still requires more work, You can see the open escape hatch, which works!

Here's my weld seam.Yes that white line. I know it doesn't look much but I was pleased with it.Big Smile [:D]

Here's one of the Eduard fenders, already bent up, as they all seemed to be! On the opposite side is the section I had to replace after not reading the instructions properly!

Finally for Bob...

Tamiya indys on the left, Tamiya rubber band in the middle, with the Friuls on the right.

Progress will probably slow right down in the run up to Xmas now, but hopefully with 10 days off over Xmas I'll get the big kitty finished.

Karl

1240 posts is very cool.  As soon as the build start the activity dropped off.  Was starting to think we had just completely run out of things to say.Wink [;)]  We all must just be working on our builds.  (EDIT And kicking off page 63...)

And here I am back from the dead... it's been so busy lately I haven't had the energy to post... but things are winding down a bit for the holiday so that's good...

Karl, Marc, Richard - good work!!!  I was reading up on the Tiger II and read that the hull was essentially a modified Panther hull.  After seeing Karls hull it is not modified really.,.. just bigger!  it's uncanny the similarity!

I've made some progress on the Tiger II this week, all the exterior bits on the upper hull that can be put on are on, I selectively primered the model so that there will be a slight difference in the colors of the paint when done.  The turret is cemented together and front armor plate on it, tomorrow the mantlet and gun go on.  I've painted the upper hull panzer yellow in preparation for the camo, but don't have a pic of it yet.  The lower hull and exterior turret will probably get painted tomorrow if I have time.  Oh yeah - I will never look on armor as easy again... after twiddling with the tiniest PE I have seen in my life, not to mention those plastic parts too small for tweezers even, I've gained a new respect!

Anyway a pic:

Hi all,

I am currently on holdiay/vacation in a lovely little beach town in South Australia.  I haven't been able to read any of the last couple of pages of posts because I'm sending this from the public library where we are staying and don't have a lot of time (that and SWMBO would kick my backside if she knew I was posting to the forum while we are away Big Smile [:D]).

On the modeling front I got a call on my cell phone this morning that my first Vallejo paints have arrived at the shop I ordered them, so I'm really looking forward to giving them a blast.  Btw, for those of you who use Vallejo what do you use as an ab cleaner, Windex or is it best to use their own ab cleaner?

I'll be back on deck next Monday, but right now I think I hear the sand and the waves calling me back Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

Cheers

Tom, I was in the LHS at the weekend and sneaked a peak at the Dragon KT and I'm not sure it's that much bigger than the Panther. I might be wrong, but I think the assumption is that the KT is a much larger vehicle because of it's heavier armour and larger gun, when in fact it's probably only 10% bigger than the Panther.

Having posed the Panther alongside the Semovente from the NAGB, the Italian vehicle looks more like a tankette! Either that, or it's 1/48!

As for the PE, the Eduard frets don't seem to include anything too silly, like working hinges, I think that's more of an Aber thing.

Bob, you're welcome.

It's taking a while to get my head around the construction sequence for an AFV, I'm so used to A/C.

Next step will be the addition of all the PE, of which there are 5 frets, so I won't be rushing any of that! Some of it looks a little daunting, but I'm going to try and use as much as possible.

Darren - I just use Windex and then flush with a little water... as far as thinner either distilled water with a little retarder or their own thinner work fine.  (it has a retarder and adhesion agent in it)  Somehow based on the color and poperties of the solution I think the adhesion agent is just white glue dissolved haha.. I don't knock it, it definitely works!  Good luck on the Vallejo... I think you will like them, also it seems a little steep to pay $6 US for a tiny bottle of Vallejo thinner but I use their paint almost exclusively and have half a bottle left after a years' worth of modeling.

Karl - hmmm interesting, I didn't realize the Panther was so big.  I'll have to take a picture of the Tiger next to the M-41 I built to get osme ideas on how to build an AFV.  It makes the M-41 look tiny, not as small as the Semovente but a noticiable difference!

Karl-am I correct in my research that shows late Pathers not using zimmert?

HOLYCensored [censored]! Awesome! That thing is frickin' huge man!  It would take me years to finish it!  There's more plastic on that thing than my Saturn Car!

So when are ya gonna start it?  I really have to try an armour build, I think maybe 1:72 is more my speed right now.  When finished it would be about the size of one of them wheels!  What a score Marc!Tongue [:P]

LOL I never thought of that... my daughter drives a Saturn... I need to tell her to be mrope careful.  I want to start right now but that will really screw up my build order and commitments to GB's.  So if the mods of some of the other GB's see this.... you may just have to understandBig Smile [:D].

Awesome score marc!!!! and I agree, it is freakin' huge!! Have fun with that baby. There was a group build last year of a bunch of guys who built that model. Maybe you can find the thread in the archives, I'm sure it would be helpful for you.

Richard: The Me 163 is coming along nicely and looks great with the paint on. Now lets see some decals.

As for myself I've been in a bit of a slump lately. Finished building my new work bench last weekend but have been too busy at work to actually use it. Hopefully this weekend.

Richard, great progress on the 163.

Bob, the Tamiya Panther is too late for Zim, as it features the crew compartment heater which didn't become a feature of production machines until very late 1944/ early 1945, and they stopped Zim in August 44.

Mark - great googly moogly!!!  I don't have a garage big enough for that!!!  That road wheel looks almost the same diameter of the turret for my 1/35 Tiger II!

Richard - looks good!  Can't wait to see it in markings, you should try some armor some time... I never thought I would like armor but actually I am loving it!!!  It's been fun working on this baby.

Bob - the late Tiger II's didn't have zimmerit either, they stopped at the same time the Panthers did (general regulation came out on it)  Ends up the tank crews were worried because there was a (false) rumor the zimmerit would catch fire when hit.

Tom, just seen your pic of the Tiger II hull. Looks like your making very good progress.

I know what you mean about it looking like a scaled up Panther now. The engine deck layout of the Tiger II and Panther is almost identitical, with only the orientation of the two 'mushroom' vents differing markedly.

Marc, that is one monster of a kit. Should be an interesting, if not particularly quick build.

No progress update!!!!

Too busy getting prepped for Xmas.

Karl - have you put the metal barrel on yet?  I used the metal barrel the kit came with but it persists in staying in the down deflection... sometimes it will stay level then slowly defect down.  Aby tips on how to help it stay up short of gluing?  I'd like to be able to move it if I felt like it and put it in a different pose should the occasion arise.  I'm thinking worse gone to worst of trying some sort of counterweight on the breech area and just gluing the hatches shut.  I hate to do that, even though there is no real interior detail other than the breech it would be nice to leave it open.
