Well there's some things that haven't been touched yet, like a B-26 Marauder, B-25, some of the Soviet stuff is wide open!  I think the only Soviet thing is the T-34 someone is doing.  There's lots of German armor not being done.  Without being able to look back on the list I believe the Panther and Tiger II possibly a Tiger I are the only things being done.  I'm thinking no one is doing a figure, that would be something different.  hhmmm... what do you normally model (aircraft/armor etc..)  maybe we can help you out better.

I got the Humbrol Ocean Grey, and am in the tedious process of masking the Type A camo on the Spit..................no wonder I like Luftwaffe a/c so muchZzz [zzz]

Got a question for ya's, what kind of finish did RAAF Spits have on them?

Gloss, semi-gloss or flat????

Sean, not sure about the finish on late war Spits, I've got a feeling they were a semi gloss, but that this rapidly faded to a matt finish. Apart from the bits that got covered in engine oil that is!

What did Santa bring you? Any modeling related goodies?

I got 'Downfall' on DVD, which I'm really looking forward to, having seen the first half on TV a few weeks back.  Also got Revell's tiny 1/72 Fokker Dr.1 as a stocking filler.........

.....oh and an I-pod! Definitely the highlight of this Xmas' pressies.Big Smile [:D] Not modeling related, but loving it already.

Hope everyone is having a good Xmas.Party [party]

Guess I didn't sacrifice enough gnomes to the God of StyreneSigh [sigh]

I got a DVD on the BF 109Thumbs Up [tup]

A 4 piece toaster (been whinging about having to toast twice for a decent feed for a whileAngry [:(!])

A box set of Enterprise DVDs (Hi, my name is Sean, and I'm a TrekkyAshamed [*^_^*])

And an Ice Smoothie maker

Got a sick fetish for ice cream headaches y'see, had it for a while now, doctors say there's nothing they can do, but I'm in therapy, and I'm getting better.

And thats it really.

But my boss gave me a $1000 bonus in folding fun tickets, so I'm gonna do a small shop online for some stuff.

I have to admit aside from the pressie thing, I'm really chuffed about seeing alot of people this weekend, had some good laughs, and forgot about the troubles for a while.

And today I get to lay the foundation for my BBQ!!!!!!

It's all goodWink [;)]

Sean, sounds like a good haul, especially the bonus!

Which season of Enterprise did you get? I think I saw most until the last series when it seemed to disapeared from the schedules over here.

Best of luck with the BBQ.

It's great to hear that everyone had a good Christmas even if you did come up sans any modeling stuff like me.  Still the kids had a blast and were spoilt rotten by all their relatives, we adults consumed waaaay to much of the amber fluid and had a ball playing a couple of huge backyard cricket matches in the heat.  It's exhausting but still great fun.

Sean, on your Spitfire question Jules is probably best person to give a proper answer but I think Karl is right in that whatever color they started soon faded to matt in tropical conditions.  I can only go by the photos that I have but this looks pretty matt to me.

Karl, nice pickup with the IPod Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].

PanzerWulff from what I can gather most of the life of the working Maus prototypes was in testing around Kummersdorf at the proving grounds in Boblingen, but the V1 and V2 versions were possibly involved in one mission in a combat area that ended in both tanks being over-run and captured by Soviet forces. One fully operational design and one with a dummy turret were ordered to flee the factory development complex at Kummersdorf to avoid advancing Soviet forces. A prototype with a dummy turret broke down several miles away from the factory and was abandoned. The second continued further and was reported to have also broken down, and then scuttled by the crew. Some sources state the second prototype was destroyed by enemy fire and not scuttled.  Who really knows, but the photo is supposed to show the destroyed operational hull.

Panzerwulf, sounds like a good haul or armour from Saint Nick.

The Maus at Kubinka appears to be a combination of V1 hull and V2 turret, though whether the V2 got to fire it's guns in anger is open to question. However the whole of Germany was a combat zone by this time!

Daniel, an Australian drinking?!?! You surprise me!Wink [;)]

BTW that is one beat up looking Spit in your post.

I've been knicking my other halfs I-pod to go running with for the last few months.

I got Season 1 of Enterprise.

Wasn't to keen on the show in the beginning, but it got alot better so now I watch.

Australias a fair way behind compared to most places, but at least the DVD's are regulararly on sale.

Got the BBQ slab down today, and I have to say it shows I don't make my living laying concrete!Ashamed [*^_^*]

On the upside it will all be hidden by brick work, so it should look good providing I don't stuff up the bricksEight Ball [8]

Like any one is going to sober enough to notice the brickwork by the time the BBQs over!

Now, if you screwed up the food, that would be a different matter!

I liked Enterprise, it reminded me of Voyager which I got into straight away, unlike DS9 (Hello, my name's Karl, and I like Star Trek!).

Boy, what a lot of chatter today!

Panzer, nice haul, been wanting to build the maus for awhile now so I'll look forward to your build up of that one.

Trekkies, I got into DS9 for some reason, couldn't stand Voyager and barely got into Enterprise. Was never a hard core Trekkie but always enjoyed most of the shows.

As for Christmas, it was pretty quiet this year after the move 1,000's of kilometers away from family. The main gift was the new Hasegawa Lancaster (yipee!!!). Also got some cash (nothing like Seans bonus though) so might go pick up an amour piece later this week.

Sounds like everyone had a good Christmas.  Glad to hear it.

Opened up the Tamiya Late Panther yesterday and reviewed the instructions again today.  I have a deeper respect for the armour guys!  This one is going to be time consuming.  Ordered Tamiya indy tracks, Eduard metal barrel & a small PE set for said Panther.  Karl, I think I'll be quizzing you quite often on how you are approaching certain steps in the process.  And any other armour experts in the group.  Time to start pulling out the old FSM's for research on techniques.....Not planning on starting until I get the Me-262 finished (or at least closer to being complete.)

No progress on the Me-262-interior & guns are painted-still need to assemble & dry-brush. Hopefully  I can get that much done by weekend and get the fuselage buttoned up Since I only use acrylics, I'm thinking of moving the air brush operation from the garage to the spare bedroom.  Temps are below freezing here, dropping into the low 20's F at night.  Not sure if it effects the paint-I know that I get cold out there!

Cheers and Sean-throw one on the barbie for me!  The BBQ project sounds like it is progressing-and seeing your modeling skills, I'm sure it will not only be functional, but look great.

OK Next group build is we actually build as a group at Sean's while he cooksTongue [:P]

Had a great Christmas with the family.  My head finally cleared from all teh wine and got soem nice build time today.

Decidied to add some plumbing to the engine, gonna take a stab at opening up at least one side, and to the back where it will be seen in the wheel wells.  Got the guns on and the engine and pit in the fuselage.  The tail wheel yoke is done and I made new access panels that are taped in place for painting, form the inside, for painting.  Then I will remove the panels and pull out the tape.

Between all the resina nd solder...I need to figure a way to beef up the gear... this thing already weighs a ton.

Marc, great progress on the 190. The interior looks stunning, it's going to be a shame to cover it all up!

Panzerwulf, happy whateverWink [;)].

Bob, there's an awful lot in that Panther box isn't there? What PE set are you going for, is it the one with just the grilles? Having put the grilles on mine they make a huge difference.

Progress Update

None. I've spent the last two days working on the Fokker Dr.1 I got as a stocking filler. Pit is almost done, should be able to close up the fuselage today, and start painting tomorrow! I'm not saying it's small but it fits on a pad of Post its!

Might try and do some more PE on the Panther today, maybe post some pics as well.

Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]

Thanks for the BBQ humour guysBig Smile [:D]

Strangely enough I was commenting to the missus about how my concreteing was rather average, and she told me to "Chill, it's not a model"

Tom I was actually thinking of giving it a mottled render finish.

I'll post a pic when I'm done with the mmain part, still have to add the side bits, but thats later.

The first cook up will be in honour of you guys that can't be here for the christening Dinner [dinner]

In about 5 minutes I'm spraying the underside of the Spit, then tomorrow it will be Futured for the decals, then onto weathering.

Almost done!!!

Now where's those recipe posts you guys did???????

Sean, how about going for a, Atlantic wall bunker type look for the BBQ?Big Smile [:D]

As promised earlier some pics.....

Eduard supply louvres for all 4 rectangular vents, but I've only found pictures of Panthers with them on the right hand side when viewed from the rear. As you can see the grilles are stunning, even if my application isn't! The tiny lifting hooks on the left hand cooler group cover are tiny, and a complete mare to install, hence not having done the ones on the right hand side!

This is some of the PE built but not yet installed. The long things are the 'shelves' and brackets that the schurzen attach to, and are a huge improvement over the kit parts. The fenders have been attacked to give them that distressed look.

Finally, all the PE I still have to attach. Some of this won't get used as it either isn't a great improvement over the kit parts, or just plain doesn't look right. Eduard supply a load of handes in PE, but I opted to use wire instead, that and I can't find evidence for some of them.

Thats a champion idea!!!

Now all I have to do is get one of the mine workers to pop by for a coldie, and bring some 'work' home with himWink [;)]

No bunker looks complete without a dirty great hole blasted in the side of it!!

Karl

I found the same thing with the Eduard PE kit when I did my Panther.

I also had to make the handles from wire, cause the PE bits just look odd in 1/35 scale.

Sean, more importantly no bunker looks right without a 105mm poking out the front!Wink [;)]

To the missus...

'It's a sort of chimney love.'

The wire handles work out far stronger that either the PE or plastic parts as well.

Sean-I figured an automotive type 'flame' paint scheme would be approate for the barbie...Wink [;)]

Karl-Your Panther is looking great! I really think the PE adds a lot to the kit.  However, at this stage, I'm trying to minimize my cash inventment plus I'm not that comfortable with that much PE....baby steps....I have the small set coming (grills only).  However, we are going out shopping today so my 12 yr. old can spend some of his ill-gotten Christmas gains....planning on stoping by the craft store and procuring some lead foil.  Interesting article in the FSM a couple of months ago regarding the Panther build with metal tracks & foil fenders/storage bins.  Might give that a try.  Other drawback to PE for me is TIME.  Just doesn't seem to be enough.  Maybe next year, the USUAL SUSPECTS will launch a year long armour build...or maybe a decade long GB.....

Bob, the PE grilles are definitely the most worthwile piece of PE you can buy for this kit, and I know what you mean about PE being time consuming. It's taken me 2 hours to build a tool rack from modified kit parts and the Eduard PE! Only 2 more racks to go!Sad [:(]

I think a year long armour GB is as goer. 6 months to save up for the kit and the AM, and 6 months to assemble it all.Wink [;)]

Looking good Karl!

The 190 is looking great too Marc! Nice engine.

All you guys whining about your tiny 1/35 PE. I'll ship you a 1/700 ship PE set and then we'll hear some real whining. I built the Essex over the last year and it just about killed me.
I won't be doing that again anytime soon. Sheeesh!

Awful quiet in hereAngry [:(!]Wink [;)]Big Smile [:D]

Spent the night carving, filing and sanding the milliput I used for the big tail conversion.  WOW that was work.  First time using the stuff and that stuff is hard as nails and it doesn’t stick t plastic all that well… OK not well at all.

Also did some work on the LG doors.

Marc, is that the kit part on the right? I'm assuning it is as it doesn't look like a normal 190 gear door, or were they different on the later versions?

Dave, I'll whine if I want to!Wink [;)] I don't usually use masses of PE, so the Panther is proving somewhat of a trial, not least because the hull is now festooned with delicate PE which I have to avoid when working on other sections. But then you'll be all to familiar with that after your Essex class carrier. Way too small for me.

Progress Update

Made a complete pig's ear of the gun cleaning rod tube the other night. Finally managed to get the hoops which hold it to the hull, attached to the hull, just need to sort out the mess of CA I managed to get all over the tube itself sorted then try attaching the tube to the brackets again!Sad [:(] If all else fails, I'll just replace the tube with a section of brass tube.

Oops... that's not a good sign.  The kit part is on the leftSad [:(]  The problem iwth all my refs and all the pics i could find in the web have the LG and tire in the darn way si I tried to approximate from hat I could see at the edges in the photos. I knew it was nto "right" but I am hoping that when I add the struts and wheels it will"hide" just the right amount.  If you have a good pics of the door's inside... I have stacks of sheet styreneSmile [:)]
