Excellent!

Thanks for that Jules.

Should be able to make some decent headway now, and then onto the 190!!

Well I have just read through the last few pages of posts and there is some fantastic progress going on, nice jobs everybody.

Richard congratulations on the completion of your build, she's a real keeper congratulations Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup].  It's been a pleasure to have you as part of the build.

You can find some of your pics preserved for posterity at

http://photobucket.com/albums/c392/Finescale/BattleForGermany/

I'll post four shots from everybody’s builds to the page when they are done and then, well I haven't figured out that part yet but I'll post the page link somewhere once we are all done.

Jules is the cable that's gone west the one that has a USB connection on one end for the PC and a much smaller connection (looks a lot like a miniature USB connection except that the bottom is curved) on the other end.  If so I think I have a spare floating around here somewhere that I can shoot you up.  Let me know what you want to do ok.

Tom, I picked up the Vallejo paints for my build today and I have a quick question for you please.  Do you buy the Model Art colors and then thin them down to spray, or do you get the Model Air colors that are pre-thinned?

Cheers

Darren - the ones I use are the Color of Eagles paints made by Vallejo for another company.  They are the equivalent of model art as they should be thinned 10% with distilled water.  However I use the thinner made by Vallejo due to the retarder and adhesion agent in them... let me know how you like them!  I think they are tops above the other acrylics I have tried, and when put on in multi thin coats really hug the fuselage well....  (go on smooth not hiding any detail etc...)  I've even been able to practice things like German squiggle camo without too much problem with tip dry using that combo.

---edit---

Tanky - you know I'm always the "fringe" person... Wink [;)]

Jules - hard luck there!!!  didn't you just get the camera?  You might want to have the neighborhood exorcist come over and do a number on it.. might help the computer and the camera at the same time!  Wink [;)]

Tom thanks for that info it's really appreciated.  OK now for the next and hopefully last question on this, which Vallejo thinner do you use, the Model Art or the Model Air?  As far as I can see there is not a lot of difference between the two but I'm still curious to know.

OK, I spotted this article this morning and thought of you straight away.  You want fringe, you've got fringe

Saw that article too.  That is fringe ON fringe.  In the mean time... I want one of those on the shelf.

Darren - I use the model air thinner.  I have been using Vallejo exclusively for the exterior colors on my models for the last year or so (everything you have seen me paint was with Vallejo excepting the NMF planes) and I still probably have about 1/2 bottle of thinner left.  It's just 1 drop thinner for every 3 drops paint.  I don't even really count anymore, I just approximate and have never had a problem with it.  I *HAVE* found I can spray some pretty fine detail lines (like squiggle camo) using the distilled water and doing about 20% thinning with it.  I also put a drop or two of Liquitex Airbrushing medium in with it to act as a retarder.

As far as the V tail... hmmm.. I may need to order that conversion kit as I feel a Fringe GB coming up!  I think there are enough of us who like fringe to start one in 2006/7.. Thanks for the peek!  The odd thing is I wonder how that project panned out?  It seems the V-tails are very acrobatic in nature.. you'd have thought it would be a good mod to the Bf109...

---edit---

now THIS is fringe and I might just model it!!!  It looks like ti would be a fun way to personalize the kit!!!

I was thinking about buying the T-34 model anyway.... hmmm...

Get the  Trumpeter 1/16 T-34/76 1942 and you and I can do a GB... but not in pinkDead [xx(]

Slow going but some progress.

Don't think I will do too much more to the engine since it won;t be seen once the fuselage is glued up.

Mine is most definitely staying yellow, green and brown.......

.......unless someone has pictorial evidence of a Panther that is trult pink!

Marc, don't go giving Tom ideas.......

Progress Update

Not alot, busy doing Xmas stuff.

The PE frets are steadily becoming more bare, and the Panther hull more scary to pick up for fear of knocking off tiny bits of PE. Having said that the PE looks great, especially the grilles and spare track racks on the rear hull.

Marc - stunning cockpit and engine!!!  Looks great!

Dave - Karl's right I'm afraid.. I tend to take dares... so I don't need extra encouragment!  Wink [;)]

Dave - Frostygirl already has done a Pink Panther... I remember her posting it in one of the GB's I am in with her...

hmmmm... I wonder where I would get those particular shades of pink or purple???

Merry christmas chaps. I haven't been around these parts for a fair while (and I bet no one even noticed Wink [;)]), but I've got a couple of weeks off now and am planning on getting some time in at the desk. I've had a look back at the last few pages and I must say there is some great looking progress happening. And even a great looking finished build. Hopefully I can get some progress to share with you all soon.

For now, I'm off to fill up on christmas cheer (the amber variety that comes in glass bottles Wink [;)]. See you soon.

We used to have a guy round here who looked a bit like you, can't for the life of me remember his name.Wink [;)]

Glad to see you back Daniel.

Like you, I've got some time off, and am looking forward to getting some serious modeling done.

Lack of Progress Update

Daniel – Welcome back… funny thing is, I did notice you had not been around just yesterday.  I was doing some searches of old posts and you had responded to one, can’t remember which, but looked at your profile and noted that your “last visit” was a while back… weird.

BUT you know who has apparently not been sighted in a while… dare I say it… Kremps.  I personally have been taking my daily pills, Dioxyantikrempsacylin and have remained relatively Kremps free.

(Shhhh… I AM telling them you are not here… stop that… leave that alone… don’t touch that... that's going to spill...ah nuts!)

Jay - same to you and yours!  Enjoy your holiday!!!!  And to everyone else here I wish the same!

YG - we've been waiting, finally we had to start without ya!  Wink [;)]

All - here's another progress shot of the Tiget II.  I now have the creme yellow on the sides in preparation of masking and painting the Panzer Olivgrun on top.  You'll notice the Panzer dunkelgelb as my primer coat, in my research (very limited info for this specific vehicle) it noted that probably it had the dark yellow as primer, I believe because of being produced late in the war (March, 1945) there was not enough of the red/brown stuff to go around.

What the finished one will look like (hopefully)

I found a little more info here on the specific build, I may just get the book he referenced as I can see myself building another Tiger II in the future.  (Maybe the Tamiya 1/16 one with RC installed?):

Looking good so far Tom.  That's one big mean looking mother of a gun on that thing.  Wonder how many rounds the crews got off before they were totally deaf, or shaken to jello.

Tom great looking progress on your Tiger so far.  Do you have any idea at the moment how you are going to paint the green circles in the yellow patches?

All,

I hope everybody has a Merry Christmas and/or happy holidays and that Santa brings you everything you want.  See you in a few days time.

Looking good Tom! Rick is right that is one big gun.

A Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

I've got a week and a bit off and I just closed up the fuse and glued on the Wings of my Me 262 so looking forward to doing some painting after the big day. I can't post pics of the pit from home on my ancient Mac so'll post them as soon as I can.

Cheers!

Rick - you're right, when I was out on the ship they'd do live fire excercises and even though the guns were slightly larger than the 88's (4 inches versus 3.5 inches for the 88), even 8 decks down (about equivalent to 18 stories in a building because of the hangar deck) it would still hurt your ears and cause tingles in the soles of your feet when they would fire...

Everyone - thanks for the kind words!  Today I am going to paint all the road wheels and begin the arduous task of assembling those @$E!# indie tracks...

Darren - my best guess is using brush I have that appears to be smaller than a 10/0 brush... that's how the guy in the article I posted did it.  I had thought of giving a small coffee stirrer straw a try by dipping the end in paint and dabbing the yellow with it, but that would look too uniform I would think... unless someone here has any ideas for it?
