I just pull back the protective top layer and pull off the sticker I want with tweezers.  I don't bother with trimming and wetting the thing, too much of a waste of time.

I am having a total nightmare trying to get the decals onto the front/rear tyres.  Can anyone give me any tips ?

Am i supposed to cut the sticker with a knife to the right size and then put it on, or should it peel off in the right shape/size ?

Have done more on the model this week than i have since the start of November !!!!

Exhaust all done and mounted, front forks done (the metal ones look great) and have fitted the radiator.  Just finished putting the swingarm together and have painted it.  Will mount it today and get on with the wheels.....

Nice site update, Joel! Sorry for the old link! Blush [:I]

Yamahafreak, I agree with Joel. Build looks nice, but it looks as though your camera's auto focus focused on the deep objects (background) instead of the bike.

As far as the duck goes: I actually made some progress over here as well! The front-end is coming along. But why oh why can't they have included decals for the grip detail...? Sad [:(] (Remember where you heard that suggestion first! Tongue [:P]) Also started building the exhausts so that I'm finished there by the time I reach their point of assembly. And re-did (agaaaiiiin) the paintjob on the cowlings and front fender. This time it's starting to look like something.

Looks like a great build Yamafreak! A bit blurry pics there but I think you've done that kit justice!
Would be nice if you got the pics posted on Finescale, just link them from your photobucket account.

To Seabee and others I have forgot to tell you that Onetwelvth.com from a month back is an all english site and you use the www.onetwelvth.com entry to look at the site. I'll post a message on the old english site to remind anyone to change their favorites.

best regards

oh it was a re-issue of the matchbox kit?  any other suggestions or cautions of what I should be looking forward to?  I sure hope revell redid the decals.  oh well I got one in the mail along with a 1/9 mv agusta 500cc and a 1/12 vincent black shadow all Revell Germany releases.  i couldn't find any reviews online about them so i just bit the bullet and ordered anyways.  anything you guys have heard about these kits?

yea i am stripping chrome off of any older Tamiya bike kits, also that ferrari 312T3 F-1 car.  terrible thick coating with fisheyes here and there.

Suzuki RG500 done!
Posted by eajonesgue on Saturday, December 17, 2005 8:09 AM
I've posted pictures on my web site at http://www.eajonesgue.com/scalemodels/SuzukiRG500.html

If you ever decide to do this kit (or the Revell Germany re-release), think about removing all the chrome.  The wheels were quite detailed, once all the chrome and varnish was removed.

OK, I'm going to see if this works as I haven't yet posted pics since the change to this site.  Here's my Valencia RC211V.  It's 98% done, all I have to do is add the front fariing braces, paint all the little rivets chrome, and fine tune those stubborn spots on the decals.  Now on to Nicky's ride! Also I should have the Fortuna M1 in the mail soon, so that'll make 4 for this build which is twice as much work as I planned for.  Oh well...also I just noticed I somehow scratched off the "A" in the "Honda HRC" logo on the right side clutch cover.  So now I guess it's a "Hond RC211V".  Like I said, 98%.

AHA!  The Valencia 211V,  she is DONE!  Waiting on decals to set as I type, will post pics later on tonight.  Speaking of which, those decals are a pain and I don't think would have worked at all without the handy-dandy Micro Sol.  Nicky's #69 is next.

More to come...

I just manage to rejoin the new FineScale forum and saw this topic.  Count me in on the MotoGP build.  I'll be able to kill two birds with one stone because our local model group is having a Matchbox Challenge build with the deadline of Jan 1, 2006.  Details are at http://www.thesprue.com/matchbox.htm

I'm building the 1/12 scale Suzuki RG500 (Barry Sheene 1977) motorcycle model.  The kit has since been re-issued by Revell Germany, but I have the original Matchbox release.  I'll post pictures on my web site once it's complete.

Having got a few more reference pics and looked at them more closely this time :) it does seem that 2001 Pons Honda is pretty much the same as the 2000 Rossi Honda, which is no problem to get hold of. Problem sorted.

Thanks for your help guys. Currently still working on a 250, but will be starting work on a few MotoGP bikes shortly. Will post up a pic or two at that stage if thats OK with everyone.

Hi Nick SeaBee is right I have just finished the WEST RC211V using the Studio 27 decal sheet and it also supplies the decals to do the 2002 NSR but that version is a different bike to the bike offered in the Tamiya kit. What you could try is the S27 decal sheet and the Rossi NSR ans see if that will work I still have the instruction sheet from the S27 WEST decals which I can scan and e-mail to you if that would help

Sorry Nick, you won't believe your bad luck.... I saw one less than a month ago in a hobby shop that has since closed down! Otherwise we could've tried working out something to get it to you.

If you are looking for that colourscheme specifically, you can also go for the option of buying the Museum Collection (or was it Studio 27?) decals for Baros' few end-of-season outings on the RC211V. Really looks amazing on the 211V! I built one recently and the decals absolutely love that bike! It really falls into place. You can see one on Joel's site as well. Below is the shortcut I have to his site (English part)
http://www.onetwelvth.com/en/index.htm

Good luck!

i've seen it several times on ebay running around 20 bucks or less.  i know rossi's nastro azzuro nsr500 2001 was modified from the 2000 version, but Tamiya's pons nsr500 2001 looks just like the 2000 nastro azzuro version they got.  anyone know if this is a mistake or did pons not change the design on their bike.  one'd think HRC would release update designs to all teams.  another thing is why did Tamiya discontinue that kit anyways...

Hi all,

Hope you dont mind me jumping into this thread, but does anyone know where one might get Tamiyas 2001 Honda Pons NSR500 - this was the black and white West sponsored bike.

The kit has been discontinued, and I had thought that surely some modelshop somewhere on the net would have some old stock. Cant seem to find any at all - just thought someone on here might know anything, being a dedicated MGP thread.

Cheers

Nick

That's too bad SeaBee. As you say. lucky you it was the body parts, somehow you can take some trouble with those. I have spent the last couple of nights finishing the cf:ing of the air intakes/ air box. It went pretty well and I was only to seal it with someTamiya smoke. As I am lazy I decided to brush paint instead of using the airbrush. The engine parts are a bugger to mask off properly. Anyhow, I guess I should have gone through the masking trouble after all. The paint turned out really tacky. It has dull spots and is really uneven after two coats. Will try a third but I haven't got my hopes up to solve it. Not fun but it was a test after all, it'll be better next time.

Don't ever rush... do not ever do anything "just quickly"!

After weeks of prepping, undercoating and mistcoats, I "just quickly" applied the final coat to the body. As I did it, I realised I was too close... too late.Banged Head [banghead] Bubbles all over the show. Darnit! And, too boot, my TS49 is almost all out. Fortunately it won't hamper the building progress itself, since it was "just" the body, only to be used later. But having to redo, it will eat up a lot of time...

Andrew, thanks for the offer. I am taking over standby roundabout that time, so my comings and goings migt not be very predictable! Will PM you, though. But do enjoy your time in Cape Town! It's quite hottish thusfar this summer, so I hope you have great weather when you guys come down, esp on the bike!

Hello all,

Not much progress on my RC, holiday prep and all that.  I'm starting to be concerned as to weather HLJ will ever get restocked with the Repsol decals I ordered.  My status has gone from yellow to red and then back to yellow again.  They are the "RC211V  2003 V. Rossi Decal" #MCLDC-130 from Museum Collection.   Since they have numbers for both bikes, I need them for the Nicky Hayden RC I'm doing after my Valencia is finished.  I did a quick search in the web to see if anyone else might have them, but no luck.  Any ideas?

Thanks

Hello Daniel,

just fooling about with the Renaissance etch set for the '05 RCV. Trying to decide if I should attempt the chain or not. Its not a single link job like Darrens, but I would like to put rollers on it.

I think my shrink should see it first, lolo. He will probably certify me then and there. Chuckle, so whats new about that for modelers. :-)

The clutch has a nice touch in the cage and plates. If you do not see a post soon, I have been locked up, hahhahhahhhaaaaaaaaaaaa

Rod.

Hi fellas. Haven't been around for a while, but I should hopefully be able to get some work done on one of my bikes soon. If you don't remember, I've got all my body work painted, decalled and finished. Just needs a bit of a polish and it's good to go. Might start on the engine this week.

Darren - That's looking awesome mate. I don't think I'd have the patince to do one of those chains. Great work.Thumbs Up [tup]

Rod - Welcome to the build mate.

Hi Andrew,

forgot to say awesome job on the West bike in email you sent me. I forgot derrrrrrrrrrr.  Have a go at the etch bits, nothing like real metal on bikes to make em look real.

St27 are good stuff but a bit thick sometimes.

Cheers  Rod

Hi back from Sudan and building again. WEST RC211V coming on and getting close to finishing. Finished painting and decaling body parts and busy with assembly. Painted the Fortuna M1 but got bogged down in all the PE parts from S27, got cold feet I think.

I would like to post some pictures but do not know how to. I tried to follow the links but I do not know what a photo-bucket, URL etc is. I have the photos on my hard drive but how do I post them into the forum? Should I use small e-mail pictures or just normal photos which are usually 1-1.5 MB? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks Andrew

Hi SeaBee

I recommend the excellent “Pit Walk Collection” 2004 it has lots of pictures of the Ducati GP4. I have a copy it is fantastic. I will passing through your area on 27 December The wife and I riding the Ducati ST2 1:1 to Cape Town, so we could meet and I could help you with some reference pictures. Can we e-mail outside the forum?
