Taking it slowly, that I am... Only this morning I realised S27 in their wisdom decided to make the driveshaft so short that it does not reach the brake assembly... that after quite some searching to try and see where the blazes it must be attached!

So it was meant to be only attached on the resin side, hanging in mid-air, knowing that fact will be blocked from view by the wheels. Interesting option. Shock [:O]

At least I got the brake assembly screwed in, whoo-hoo!

I dare say that I am the absolute slowest one on the build. Whistling [:-^]  Life happens and takes time away from modeling.  Then the lock fails in the locked position and the kit, the camera and all the modelling supplies are on the opposite side of the door from where I am. Banged Head [banghead]   I have to administer exams next week and average the grades and then get the door open before I can get to the Lotus.Big Smile [:D]

As a backmarker, I will drive to the inside of the track when getting lapped.Clown [:o)]

JLW:  I hear you friend!  I hear you!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]  At least you have a Lotus waiting for you.  Nothing wrong with building a Lotus.

SeaBee:  I am beginning to wonder if you are confirming a long held suspicion of mine.  Question [?]  I noticed on the S27 Ferrari's, I've done several of them, that some of the parts appear to have come from previous kits.  The front wing support on the F2002 looked surprising similar to the one on the F399.  I gotta wonder if it is the same thing with the rear end half shafts.  I'll look at the McLaren tonight, but I would bet that they are the same ones as the Ferrari.  Omigawd!  Wait to Bernie hears about this, manufacturers sharing parts on their cars!  Laugh [(-D]

Back to topic here.  From previous experience, the driveshafts are glued to the transmission housing and kinda float in mid-air in the area of the brake ducts.  It's not like the Tamiya kits where they actually go all the way to the brake disc area.  No big deal, they are hidden anyway.

Now before the boss fires me for talking about F1 on company time. Evil [}:)]

Not only does he build kits... Shock [:O] Wink [;)]

A Lotus on the other side of a locked door... OUCH! I am highly relieved that even I could not manage that one yet! Wink [;)]
As for cruising on the inside of the track... just don't
(a) overtake me too fast
(b) pull a Schumi... Sign - Oops [#oops]

Il Leone: will keep my eyes open for that re-use phenomenon.
One thing that baffles me about the R25's drive shafts is their total lack of "roundness". It's oval, almost flat! Will have to do some serious work there (just to get it hidden!).

Hopefully a good building weekend ahead. Have fun all - and no gluey fingers on final paint layers...!

speaking of back markers... i'm planning on painting the steering wheel of the F2001
this weekend. meanwhile the rest of the car parts which have been painted in red &
semigloss black don't look too different from the unpainted plastic, so there isn't much
point in posting those... will try 2 keep gluey fingers off the paint, anyhow... Wink [;)]
here's a little something 4 SeaBee, tho' :

When in doubt just build it. Mark http://www.ipmslivonia.org/ipms/

Mkhoot:  Well done!  Yeah!! [yeah] I really like the work with the gauges and the front end.  Nice clean job!  I guess we know who gets the Toyota Award for being the first to get new car on track!

The McLaren got the second run of primer and is now ready for another attempt at polishing out.  Hopefully this time I will get a nice smooth surface to start putting on the paint!

Looking going, mkhoot! Like it! Thumbs Up [tup]

I am "rocketing" along. My one side of the rear suspension is pre-built. Other on is basically correct to just put together tonight. So much easier the second time around! Wink [;)]

Just for the record, I found that freaking drive shaft's proper place. It does not just habg around, it actually goes "inside" one of the broad suspension arm's end (at the brake assembly end). They could have shown that a bit clearer...

*sounds of celebration*... must be New Year... nope... must be Christmas eve...  nope....

Wait-wait... He's actually progressed a bit! Whoo-hooo! Tongue [:P]

The rear assembly has been pre-build! Evedince attached... Not a good pic, just quickly snapped one yesterday eve, since the camera's battery was running low.

The white is not a return of the oxy (yet!) it was some primer that started coming on whilst priming the Ducati. And there is a bit of camber on there - I don't think that's quite right...(?) Then again, it would be the normal direction for camber... Will see when I prebuilt the whole thing, might need some more shortening of the parts on top of the pic, but that will be on the bottom of the car...

And here's the reason my progress will slow down even more... arrived on Saturday afternoon!

mkoot:
the mclaren looks fantastic !
congrats on a fine completed build, 1/12 looks like fun,
but i don't have the shelf space...
 i'm already wondering where i'll put the 1/20 F2001
 when/if  it's ever finished, lol !

SeaBee:
cute pup, is it a black lab ?
totally i'm a jack russell person myself, but never met a dog

meanwhile, the suspension part 'evidence' has been admitted
as exhibit A. the court looks forward 2 reviewing further evidence
as the case progresses.

& speaking of progress, here's the latest news from the workshop

progress report:
as planned, i painted the steering wheel over the weekend...
then i started painting the engine block parts in flat aluminum.
& so it begins...
quick question... should all those little buttons on the steering
wheel b glossy or flat ?
i used flat paint, but i can add some future
or glosscote if they should b shiny...

Frosty:

The buttons on the steering wheel should be colored.  Carbon Fiber for the structure of the wheel.  A quick search found this:

http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/frame.php?file=pic.php&imagenum=12&carnum=199

Lotus Progress:

The lock has been repaired and the kit and I are on the same side of the door.  Maybe one day I will admit to the entire saga of what happened.Blush [:I]Black Eye [B)]  Two classes have finished their exams so I am 1/3 done with averaging grades.  Friday begins Winter break, so the Lotus will receive the attention begining Saturday.

JlWilliams:  Inquiring minds want to know!  Big Smile [:D]  Oh well, glad you will be back at the work bench soon!  Great photo.

Frosty:  Jack Russells?  Talk about a dog that is always "on"  Nothing will escape the attention of a Jack Russell, and none more loyal.  Ok, so I'm Sign - Off Topic!! [#offtopic] but I haven't met a dog I didn't like either.  My Cavalier King Charles has a place right by the work bench.

Back to topic.  Frosty, the main part of the wheel is bare carbon fiber, so put it glossy.  The grips are a "leather" so they are kinda a satin.  The switches and neutral/pit speed buttons are definitely flat.  The LED shift lights at the top have clear lense over them, so glossy there.  Also the message box is a semi-gloss.  For some reference try:

SeaBee:  You get the cute award.  Have you chew proofed the entire house?  We all know puppies don't chew! Angel [angel]

Progress:  Looks like this run of primer will work and I will be going to color soon.  Smile [:)] We are having a small winter storm.  Only 10-12 inches of the white Censored [censored]  Time work on the model!

BTW:  For the USA crowd.  OLN is showing A1 Grand Prix on Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday will be from 5-7 p.m. central time. Check your local listings.   Wow!! [wow]Yeah!! [yeah] I'm saved!  Winter racing!  Party [party]

Okay, to continue off topic: Yes, it's a black lab (Nugget) to join the two "blondes" (Fudge and Taz). Frosty, as for Jack Russels... I like them too, but talk about ads for Duracell! Wink [;)] Yes, the house has been rather chew-proofed - just still working on my toes! Think I need to dress them up in 10x 1:20 F1 nosecones... But he's a very mellow pup, but without a scared hair on his body. Does not stand back an inch when the big one charges him!

Frosty, for good F2001 reference have a look at William Chan's effort. Be warned, this may lead to a seriously depressive state of mind! Wink [;)] But then again, keep in mind that acc to what I've heard he spent about 2 years on this project (yes, a 1:20 Tamiya F1... two years!)

(follow F2001 links)

jwilliams: you are successfull - everybody is curious now! What went on behind the green door?

We have a long weekend coming up in SA, so hopefully I will do some work. Now that I can start the body, I feel much better about life! Still far from sticking anything onto it, though!
How do you guys wash the resin bodies? I have used warm soapy water and a nailbrush, but is still not completely happy. Will do a quick light sanding of everthing, too. But are you washing it with something else as well before going to sanding? Don't worry, I allready have my mask! Goes great with my "Santa" hat...Whistling [:-^]

The R25 did progress a lttle this weekend. Rear assembly now attached to the body. The place I initially broke the one suspension arm went again. Censored [censored] So much for super glue's "super"-ness... Only works as advertised when it is accidently used on fingers! Wink [;)]  I will use epoxy in my next attempt to fix it.

Also added the exhaust outlets. This all having sanded the whole body. Next up, the front suspension. Hopefully this will be better than the rear suspension...

The sprue cutters and the sand paper finally got close enough to the parts to be effective.  I am about ready to spray the body.

Still here, still plugging along.  The McLaren is finally ready for the first coat of real paint.  After cutting through the primer twice.  Censored [censored]  At least it is nice and smooth base to put on the colors.  Of course  in all this I dropped the bottle to the airbrush and need to get a new one.  Sign - Oops [#oops]  And I have 3/4 of my house boxed and packed ready to move into the new place.  Nothing like a few interesting challenges in a build.  At least testing season has started and we will soon get the launch photos of the new cars.

Was thinking just yesterday of asking what everybody else was up to, since I'm up to no good! Haven't touched the R25 since, but at least started getting into the thing again by fiddling on my other projects> Maybe today and tomorrow will give me the opportunity to work on the front suspension. Being at work on a Sat morning does not help...Angry [:(!]

Frosty, nice to see some progress pics from somebody! Lookin' good.

Hey, I like the McLaren winter livery. And the R26 has quite an interesting new rear wing design, curving upwards in the middle. And sidepods obviously aren't fashionable nowadays... Wink [;)]

boy oh boy we need a bump here.

anyone has any suggestion for some sets of good/accurate+easy to find+slightly lower on price CF decals or CF templates for 1/12 and 1/20 scale?  i started to accumulate too many kits that needs CF treatment and am still sucky at doing the Tamiya way with fine meshes...  i am hoping to get a good set and just photocopy it then duplicate onto my own white decal sheet.  think that's doable?

Archangel, best place to go will be Scale Motorsports - they have a lot of very good PE sets, superdetail sets and CF templated decals (normal ones available too, of course!) Their stuff are also sold elsewhere, not only availble via themselves. Racing Miniatures, HLJ and Mediamix are some of the places to check out.

You will also have the option of going for Studio 27, which should be available via the same places. ScaleRacescars also have a few PE sets of their own - also sell a lot of other goodies.

Hope this helps, bit difficult without knowing exactly what you're looking for.

Good luck!

chrome surface gets u the least amount of drag....

I am okay with it.  Perfer the new RedBull car's scheme though.  Nice and clean (well that also means the lack of sponsorship).  But I am a sucker for the dark navy blue and the gold went pretty well with it.  Favorite McLaren color though, gotta be the Marlboro red and white.  I grew up watching Ayrton Senna, nothing more need to be said about that.

Whoever does the 1/20 of that car had better be really good with Alclad!  Talk about bright, need welders lenses on your camera before taking photos in daylight.  All in all, I love it a real silver arrow.  Meanwhile on my MP4/19B, life is come to a complete halt.  After dropping the jar for the airbrush, Dunce [D)] I finally managed to get a new one via mail order.  It arrived just in time to be packed up with the rest of the house.  Moving really puts a crimp in the model building.  The bad news is I am homeless until May.  The good news is I have located a place to airbrush and hopefully work will resume in the near future. Sigh [sigh]  How to to Bahrain???

looks as if all has gone quiet as we anticipate the start of the F1 season....

adieu, V10's & bonjour a la nouvelle V8... except 4 STR, who will b running

a restricted V10... nice 2 c that F1 is still crazy after all these years !

the new honda & mclaren cars look good... altho'  i think the mclaren looks like a

(very aerodynamic) beer can in that livery, i like it too, LOL !

as 4 my f2001, i am now working up the courage 2 use the SMS detail set which

i got as a present (wow, is it intense.... so much 4 this as an OOB build !)

hopefully i will have some progress pix soon...

Lovely! I have their superdetail set for the FW24. I am nowhere close to starting with that (physically, mentally or skill-wise!) Before that I'll have to *blush* start working on this one again! And my "Barbie Ferrari" with their PE set only - as preparation for the FW24. If the F2001 detail set is anything like the FW24 one, I understand what you mean by plucking up the courage! Wink [;)] Good luck!

On standby this weekend, so I will do no building! But next weekend is a long weekend... Cool [8D]

As for the new season: STR car will be a decaller's nightmare! Will have to hear on Monday how the new qual system worked out and who found which loopholes in the rules... But those Honda's are looking ominous. Sure the new season will get all of us inspired for the continuation of this GB again!

Well I picked out the 1/20th Tamiya F-2000 here are some pics

Nice kit heck its Tamiya! Airbrushed the engine aluminum then brushed on clear yellow for the gold leaf parts. As you can see I need to go over the black again, also need to airbrush the black parts of the car if I get around to it tommorow.
