Out of the Box -- First Jets!!!

Hey Joe, I'm going to have to drop out of this GB.  I overcomitted myself to GBs so I'm thinning the stack a bit so I can get some breathing room.  Also my modelling time has been less than normal the past 2 months, and we're entering the final phase of our remodelling of our house (retiling the bathroom, new carpet in the master bedroom and guest room, repainting master bedroom and guest room).  We start up work towards the end of the week with getting all the supplies (tile, carpet, paint etc.) and work begins in earnest next week. 

Last week we had a sewer line disaster at our rental property so I spent 3 days of vacation time digging a 40 foot trench, approx 3 feet deep.  Fun stuff.......

Anyway, my apologies and look forward to see you all in some of the other builds.

I am just returned from four days of continuing education, second of three classes for this year, then one more in December.

I have not gotten around to posting my pics yet...will do so shortly.

Looking forward to seeing every one's progress.

Or rather, this morning...!  At least I discovered why I stopped building (moving aside).  Yep, that plastic the Red Russians used in those days was awful!  Trying to get the tailplanes to stay stuck to the fuselage is awful.  Quite a few marks (and memories) from 6 months back.  This time I used Zap glue to stick it (slow glue), but as this wasn't so good, I then used Mek-Pak, and now it's good.  Slightly rough, but once painted should be OK.  Now for the other tailplane.

Edited to add: added in the other tailplane, and the fin, but then the gear doors fell off, and examining the bits, I discovered I'm missing a main gear wheel....

Doesn't this build end November 1st?  Today is September 8th.  So from today we still have 54 days including Nov. 1st.  I just about had a panic attack when you said we have less than 30 days to go.

Finally unpacked and cleaned out my airbrush last night.  Have lost a lot of stuff (just where is my half built Tiran 5 for the IDF build?) in the move, but the box with the Gloster Whittle is on my desk, and building should recommence this weekend!

Okay...DONE (no kidding!)  During commercials last night watching the Steeler game I got it finished.  Not too exciting, but it is done.  I am also going to use it for the Airfix GB.

I know what you meen Joe.  I thought I had the Attacker ready for final paint & then a fuselage seam simply opend up.  I have no idea why, but it seems that the Tenax I used to glue may not have worked well with the styrene used by Classic Airframes on this kit.  Never had the problem before, but I've been forced to go back over all the joins with CA, which then involves a lot more sanding & re-doing more lost detail.  About back to where I was a week ago, but it's been frustrating.

In some old adventure movies they show the hero of the movie enslaved on some galley, pulling on his oar day and night...ugh!

Not that I am any sort of hero but that is how I feel right now with my Vampire!  I have 90 minutes (estimated) to complete it and can not seem to get there...other builds are getting cranked out, but not this one for some reason...any one else feeling this way?

Your Meteor is looking real good so far.  Looks like it's close to being completed.

I use Floquil gray primer.  It's an enamel, but I always let it cure for at least 48 Hrs.

Mine's going OK.  Filled, sanded & primed.  Waiting for the primer to completely cure.  Have some seam touch-up work to do & re-scribe some lost detail.  Hope to get some color on her this weekend.

Dave, Joe,  Thanks guys.  It is a sorta obscure aircraft, but as one of Supermarine's last, I think it deserves it's place in history.  When it's done, I'll pose it with some of my Spitfire models.

More progress made .  The airframe is now assembled.  Lots of seam work & re-scribing lost detail still required, but for a CA kit, it's moving along.

At least you can see the simple but graceful look of this classic warbird.

Making some progress on getting the airframe assembled.  Fit aint great, but that's the way it goes with Classic Aiframes kits .  Should have some pics in a couple of days.
