Tom- What Kremps doesn't know can't hurt US!!

At least thats the way I'm playing this one, even though we both know it's only a matter of time till she catches up with usSad [:(]

Just like that time that instead of eating the Borsche you kept stuffing it in your mattress, every time she walked past your bed SHE masked the smell of itShock [:O].

Till she got a munchie attack.

Your a braver man than I.

Razordws- I actually got lucky.

I don't have a display cabinet, most of my kits reside in custom made perspex boxes, and they take up alot of room so I finally conned the missus into letting me make one under the premise that if it turns out alright, I'll make her a display case for all her stuffSmile [:)]

Unfortunately I am ok with woodwork, so finishing the case means I'll lose inportant modelling time whilst I make hersSad [:(]

Bummer!

Bob- Nice looking pit.

Joe congrats on another lovely build Thumbs Up [tup].  I must admit I'm with the others, 72nd scale single seaters are not my thing so double congrats for patience and nimble fingers.

Bob, sorry but I just about lost a mouthful of red wine on the keyboard when I read you post about the IP color Laugh [(-D].  I know it's not funny but I'm in a weird mood at the moment.  Regardless the end result has turned out great.

The amount of great progress at the moment has actually shamed me to crack the Hurricane's box open and shake away the cob webs.  I have finished the IP but when I flat coated it I wasn't happy with the look so I'm going to give a light sheen of 50/50 flat satin cot tomorrow night and see how it looks then.

Cheers

Dave & David Great progress on your builds.

Joe your Emil looks fantastiqueThumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]  Next Year!!! lets finish this one firstSmile [:)]

Bob your cockpit looks nice

Here is my progress.  The bottom has been painted & masked and I've put the Dk Earth on.

I installed the horizontal stab this morning when it's dry enough I'll fill the seem and hopefully tomorrow I'll give it a touch up.  By mid week I'm hopeing to put the mask on the upper surface and apply a coat of Dk Green.

Here is a pic of where I'm at so far.

Cheers

Looking good Bear!! I've noticed the pans you've been using for your builds. what are they and where did you get them. Looks like they'd be handy as I just recieved a whole bunch of kits that don't have their original boxes.

Thanks for the look and kind words guys!

Darren another fantastic group build!

1/72 is what my modelling budget allows as well as my display space...however there are some 1/48's in the stash...

The Tamiya kit needed exactly two drop of CA to fasten the wings to the fuselage!  In fact, the is no glue at all along the wing roots!

Thanks all-I feel like I've finally gotten started. Somewhat disappointing that the cockpit on the 109 is so small that a lot of the sidewall detail isn't visible.  Primed and painted the PE parts today.  Decided on a 'yellow nose' 109-leaves open options if I can't get the sponge camo to my liking.

Bear-looking good.

Darren-glad I could provide some comic relief.  I should start documenting more of my 'learning & growing' experiences.  There was a time when something like that would really frustrate me.  Now it's just a slight sigh and figuring out a 'Plan B'...

Thanks Dave & Bob

Dave those plastic pans are  were used to put instrument parts in when we would O/Haul them.  I use to O/haul A/C instruments before I went over to flight operations.  I foud a couple in the bottom of my tool box when I was looking for my dental & other tools that could be usefull when I started modeling again.

Wow lots happening, the Bf-110 is still sitting patiently in it's box.  I do plan on starting it at least before the GB is done that way I can say I at least started...we have until the end of October right?  As for next years BoB GB, (I need to finish this one first) I have lots of stuff to choose from as Dave and I split a Bob decal sheet.Big Smile [:D]. I was thinking actually of doing two maybe?  A Fiat G-50 and BF-109 (Helmut Wicks).  I know I have a lot on my plate right now but I can dream and plan things right?Whistling [:-^]

Marc and Sean, I can' take any credit for the foam in the CP trick, I saw Master Rick using it long ago and so I tried it too and found it works fabulous!!   So thanks Master Builder Rick!Bow [bow]

Joe, great job on the 109, especially in braille scale.

Bob, the pit is coming along nicely.

Superbear, the Hurricane looks great. What scale is it?

Dave, you could always use that Br 20 in the Spanish Civil War GB, starts next month.Wink [;)]

Progress Update

Not a great deal, due to work commitments, and getting ready to go on holiday tomorrow.

The fuselage is pretty much complete. I'm re-doing the cockpit glazing, which should be complete tonight.

Most of the fuselage panel lines are drawn on with a very sharp pencil, as they don't match the ones on the wings and tail, which are quite prominent, while those on the fuselage were barely visible even before I started the endless sanding! Go figure?

The wing is complete, just awaiting engines.

In fact that is all that is outstanding, the engines, but these won't be finished for at least another 10 days as I'm to Normandy for a week in the morning.Big Smile [:D]

The Heinkel is still loitering outside the paintshop.

Karl-very nice work.  Looking forwarding to seeing the engines attached.

Enjoy Normandy.  I'm almost finished reading Stephen Ambrose's 'D-Day'-very good read.  Humbles me when I read & think of what those young men did that day for the rest of the world.

Guys, thanks for the encouragement.

This has definitely been one of my tougher builds.

Bob, haven't read that one, will have to look it up.

Currently re-reading Max Hastings' Overlord, an exellent read.

Hey all-I made some progress this pm-got the fuselage buttoned up and the wings attached, with assorted bits of PE hidden from view (but I know that they're there!)

This is my first Hasegawa kit-I love the cockpit detail, along with the small PE set.  I'm not looking forward to dealing with the PE armour plate for the canopy though.  I'm finding that the fit could have been a little better.  Not terrible, just off enough to make me work.  Next weekend being a holiday weekend, I may find time to get the canopy masked & attached and start painting.

Looks good Bob. You are right aboutthe fit... pretty good but just enough work to keeop it interesting.  The amror plate is not as bad as it looks.  It's close... but not that badWink [;)]  Keep a steady handSmile [:)]

Lookin good Bob and Karl!

I've been taking something of a break from modeling.  I always seem to have these points during a build where I just can't seem to get motivated.  I've got the decals put on the 1/72 Bf-109E-3, but I still have yet to future the 1/48 Bf-109E-4.  I'm almost at the home stretch, just gotta sit down and start up again.  Hopefully I'll get some progress pics for ya'll after I decal the 1/48.

Nice work Bob, can't wait to see some more.

Update:  Finished the camo paint on the upper surface (and I did not Screw it up) there is much rejoycing a few touch ups were the paint got in under the mask but not very serious.  Now I have the gears to install and lots of small fidly bits.  I can see light at the end of the tunnelBig Smile [:D] I should post some pics soon.

Cheers

Nice work bobSmile [:)]

Quick question for you guys.

I should know this but I'm having a 'seniors moment' so forgive meBlush [:I]

On the Emil, is there a slight 'droop' on the elevators/horizontal stabilizer?

I'm in the throws of attaching everything for painting and noticed that the stays for the tail section aren't long enough to get the tail planes horizontal, and they sit a tad off level.

I'm not sure if this is how they are supposed to be as they swing up and down in reality.

Could someone more knowledgable than me help me out please.

Thanks in advance.

Nope, the tail planes should be at 90degrees to the fin with no anhedral or dihedral.  The bracing struts are slightly too short in some Emil kits, notably Tamiya.

Thanks Rick.

I thought that was the case but when I looked my other 109's they were at right angles to the tail, and I don't recall any fit problems.

Matter of fact I dont recall much at all these days, gotta take a holiday me thinksSleepy [|)]
