Chris if I might suggest, have a look at the Dragon/DML 1/48 Focke-Wulf Fw.190A-8 as nobody that I know off does a 1/48 A5.  The Dragon offering is a really nice kit and comes with markings for Ober.Josef Priller 1944 and Maj Heinz Bar OOB.

Oops just did a check at lunch time at a couple of the LHSs near me and sure enough Dragon do produce a 1/48 A5 190.  It was half the price of their A8 Priller kit so I'm guessing it must be an older kit.

OK I just placed an order for the EagleCal Me 262 Turbos decal sheet that has Red 13 on it.  I know that Red 13 comes with the decals supplied by Tamiya but I have heard a lot of really good things about EagleCal decals and I looking forward to trying them out.

Now the question remains, do I get the Cutting Edge resin pit or stick with the Tamiya one and jazz it up a bit?

Cheers

Actually I am thinking of maybe "SUPERSIZING" this one and going with the Hasegawa 1/32 A8 the one I was looking at also has Priller's markings and I also found a set of AM decals for the kit as well HMMMMM decisions decisions. as for the Dragon A-5 I have heard a few Horror stories Shock [:O] about their earlier Fw-190 kits so I think I'll not choose that one at this time,Thanks for the heads up anyway Darson Big Smile [:D] TTFN

Darren, imho, if you are going to build the 262 with closed canopy, the kit provided interior has plenty of detail.  With canopy open, a toss up.  Definatly some PE harnesses or Ultracast seat.

Congrats!  I have that kit in my stash as well, unbuilt of course.  Shock [:O]  It's a beautiful kit!  I think you'll be very happy with it.

If I don't over-commit myself to GBs this fall, I may build the FW in addition to the ME109 I'm officially building for this build.

Bob I'm definitely going for an open canopy on the 262, but I'm going to leave cannon access hatches in the closed position for this one.

I'm going for a clean lines look with this build but I must show off the front office.

Hey espins1!  Can ya add me to this GB.  I have no idea which german ace I'll do, but I have a Pro-modeler 1/32 Bf-109G-4 Trop (or is it G-2?, can't remember, I'm at work) and a Hasegawa 1/32 Fw-190A-8 I could chose from.  This would be my first attempt at a 1/32 and I've been looking for an excuse to build one.  Finding an ace for the Fw-190 won't be a problem, but if I want to do the 109 in desert camo, I'll have to do some looking.  Did Hans-Joachim Marseilles get to fly the G-4 before he died?  Or was the F version the most modern he flew?

Hey there TryintoModel, during the western desert campaign Marseilles flew the Bf-109 E4/7 Trop, Bf 109 F4 Trop & Bf 109 G2 Trop.  It was whilst flying a G2 on Sept 30 1942 that Marseilles was killed.  I hope this helps.  Btw, any chance of sharing your first name with us?

Scott congrats on your 1000th post Wow!! [wow]Party [party]

Thanks PanzerWulff.  We've done a lot of remodelling on the house recently, replaced the carpets with hardwood floors, Italian tile in the entry way, stairs and kitchen and replaced all the lightfixtures etc. in the past 8 months.  I'm about halfway done remodelling the upstairs guest bathroom.  Putting the last bit of paint on it tomorrow.  I'm glad we're almost done, as I'd really like to free up more time for modelling.  Smile [:)]  All that's left is to paint the master bedroom, replace the carpet and put new tile, sinks and cabinets in the master bath.

The tank in the upper left is an M2A1.  There were plans to build 1000 of these, but they were so obsolete at the outbreak of WWII only 94 were made and those were relegated training purposes.  If you look at the suspension and road wheels you can tell that this was the ancestor for the future M3 and M4 designs.  If I remember correctly this is one of tanks (along with others) on display on the road leading to the museum right after you enter the base.

If any of you are interested, you can see my Aberdeen pics here.

Darren - Thanks for the info.  The kit is a G-4, but other than the look of the wheels and the little bulges on top of the wings for the larger wheels, there doesn't seem to be much visual difference between the G-2 and G-4.  Perhaps converting it to a G-2 woudln't be that hard.  The kit comes with a couple of relatively unknown aces decals for the G-4, though.  But both of the decals in the kit require the look of aircraft numbers being painted over.  Not very clean looking.  I'm not saying that is bad.  I just don't think that's what I want to do.  Oh well, I'll figure something out.

Sorry about not using my name all the time.  I usually try to remember.  I need to create a sig, but I haven't figured out how to make a GB banner yet, so I haven't done it.

Dave you're spot on with the differences between the G2 and G4.  The only other one that I know of is the increased size of the tail wheel.

If you're looking for some decals for Marsille’s then have a look at http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/espdecals.pl?scale=48&setid=144&dbs=eaglestrike&pgs=2&currpg=1&dclimg=es48144

These are F2 and F4 models but the conversion should be easy.

Also if you want a GB Banner send me the images you want and I'll put it together for you.

Cheers

Thanks for the info, Darren.  Are those 1/32 scale?

I'm working on my banner, thanks to Scott's help.  Is there a banner yet for this GB?

Hmmmm, this thread needs a bit of a bump back on to page one.

Dave sorry I should have checked your earlier post and read you were doing 1/32.  I checked the Aeromaster site and here's the link to the 32nd scale Marsielle's decals http://www.eaglestrikeproductions.com/cgi-bin/espdecals.pl?scale=32&setid=052&dbs=eaglestrike&pgs=2&currpg=1&dclimg=es32052

Well my very tasty EagleCal decals turned up in the post yesterday along with my Eduard express mask for the 262.  When next months modeling budget rolls around I'll order the Cutting Edge resin pit and them be ready to go for Sept.

Cheers

Thanks for looking that up for my Darren.  I took a look at them and they are for the F-4 version.  I just can't seem to find any references to him flying the G-2/4 or what his possible markings were.  Instead of assuming or guessing he might have used those markings on his G-2, I think I'm going to either stick to the decals in the box for if I decide on the desert camo (there is one for an ace) or I'll paint it some other scheme and order some other decals.

Dave no problems mate, I look forward to seeing your build.

Scott question for you Mr Moderator Wink [;)], are you planning on doing a badge for this GB?  If your not I was thinking of trying to chuck something together myself.  Man it's not a group build without a badge is it?

Agreed, I was going to put something together, but haven't had a chance.  Real life keeps getting in the way.  Laugh [(-D]  If you want to put something together, that would be ok with me.  Smile [:)]

I got you Rudy, I had to work yesterday and have been busy working on the yard at home and at our rental properties all day today.  I keep the build list in an excel spreadsheet on my PC at home.  I'll have it updated momentarily.

Well have finally got around to getting this sorted will be doing
1/48 Academy Bf109G-14 flown by Alfred Hammer .
Did a little resaerch on the pilot that academy had with kit and could not find anything out about him? Do know that the rank listed for him = a lance corporal (Gefreiter)and the unit they had listed never had a base where they said.
Motor a bit bare will have to do something about that+add a few extra's here and there as not very detailed for me Evil [}:)]
