Did a little resaerch on the pilot that academy had with kit and could not find anything out about him? Do know that the rank listed for him = a lance corporal (Gefreiter)and the unit they had listed never had a base where they said.
Motor a bit bare will have to do something about that+add a few extra's here and there as not very detailed for me Evil [}:)]

Hi Shayne, I updated you on the build list.  Smile [:)]

Scott, a question on the GB Badges please.  Are we ok to display them now or do we have to wait to complete the build before we can show off?

Cheers

Feel free to wear the badge proudly amigos as we get ready to kick off the build.  Cool [8D]  I added both badges to the first page with the GB info.  If any of you are interested I can add a link as each of you finishes your project and post your pictures on a page on my website for people to access from the forums.  Smile [:)]

Chris you sure are lucky doing "Pips" Priller for this build as there are plenty of good reference shots of him around.  I'm doing Heinz "Pritzl" Bar and I'm having a heck of a time finding any decent shots of his aircraft.  I have a couple of fuzzy distance shots of his Red 13 Me 262 but that's about it.

Also I know I'm stupid but all the research I'm doing for this build has really got me revved up for this build and in particular has really peeked my interest in Heinz Bar.  As a result I have actually gone out and picked up Tamiya's  48th FW 190A-8/A-8 R-2 which I'm backdating to Bar's A-7 spec FW 190.  I've already made a start on the kit so it won't be part of this build but I'll post updates in the aircraft forum as I progress.

I'd like to get in on this! This is perfect timing. I just ordered a Tamiya Bf109-E4 and the Aeromaster "Kommodore Adolph Galland" decal set. I mostly model allied aircraft and know very little about Axis fighters so this GB will be a good place to share info.

So mark me down with a Bf109-E4, JG26 flown by Adolf Galland.

Hi Mike, welcome to the build!  I'll add you to the roster as soon as I get home from work tonight.  Is it safe to assume it's the 1/48 Tamiya kit?  Smile [:)]

Sorry I've been a bit absent the past 2 weeks, I was in Vegas for a week teaching, then on "vacation" last week, our oldest son got married this past Saturday, so things have been very hectic.  All should settle down by this weekend.  whew!

Thanks very much for going to the effort of having a look for those references for me Chris I really appreciate it.

It's "Red 13" W.NR.431007 that I'll be doing as a build and from the research that I've done I have pieced together that it was a standard A7 model with the outer wing cannons removed and the wide chord wooden propeller.

I'll try and remember to scan some of the images of Priller that I have for you tonight.

Cheers

Chris as promised here are some shots of Pips Priller from my references.

Priller and his wingman Walter Grunlinger in 1942

I really like this shot, it's Priller posing in front of his BMW tourer and his FW 190A-5 "Black13"

Priller & Rommel during the Generals inspection of JG 26 immediately prior to the D-Day landings.  Check out that Priller's 190 still has his wife’s name Jutta in the Ace of Hearts but the Black 13 has gone and has been replaced by Kommodore's chevrons while the brass is around.  This may be the aircraft he flew in his run along the D-Day beaches.

Cheers

OK. This is weird.Confused [%-)]

I had a big box waiting for me when I got home from Squadron today. Sunday night I ordered 3 kits one being a 1/48th scale Tamiya Bf109E4/7 Trop item no:61063*1800. I opened my big Squadron box and right on top was my 109 in a slightly dented box. No worries, I thought. I doubt it was going to be damaged or anything. When I open the box everything looked fine except when I got to the decals. They were from the Tamiya Bf109E3. I thought it was weird but I didn't care because I wasn't going to use them anyway. But the Instructions & painting guide were also for an E3. I checked out the clear parts and they are also from an E3. Now my question is are the 2 main sprues from an E3? Is there any difference between the 2 kits other than the clear parts, instructions & decals. If  I wound up with the E4 sprues, which I think I have because they have the tropical air filter & drop tank. Can  I use the kit as an E3? I have decals for an E3 in the Aeromaster Galland decal set. I was planning on an E4, from JG26 in Galland's markings for the build. I even have a cool little telescope leftover from a recent build that I was going to use as Galland's gun sight. Should I return the kit? Or can I just build an E3 with the kit I have?

ThanksConfused [%-)]

Well Gentlemen, only a few more days before this build kicks off.  Cool [8D]

I don't know about you but I'm going to spend some time this weekend drooling all over my Hasegawa Bf109G-6 this weekend and some final research to get ready for the build.  Big Smile [:D] Tongue [:P]

I would like to join up after a short 3 year hiatus from modelling in general....I'm going to do "Assi" Hahn's aircraft as well, only the Tamiya 1/48 offering... it's been sitting in the closet for a while and it's time to knock the dust off....

Well, I stopped at a LHS and they had a E3 that was opened. I took a look and it had the same sprues as mine. So I will be building Gruppenkomander Adolf Galland's Bf-109 E3 from III/JG26,  June 1940 in France.

Hi Shayne, I updated you to the Hasegawa kit.  Cool [8D]  Is it still going to be a G-14?  And are you going to build both of them for the build or just the Hasegawa kit?  Question [?]

Yes will be another G-14,and will do both.
1/32 Erich Hartmann
1/48 Alfred Hammer, Did a little more digging on him he has only 26 kills/500 missions ,does that meet ace standards?????
I have a question ,did the pilots have the same markings through out the war or did they change when goingto a different base?
As the markings for Hammer are yellow 1,but there was anither pilot a year earlier with the same markings??

Ok Shayne, I put you down for both.

Luftwaffe markings changed all the time, depending on the unit, Luftwaffe rules, time frame of the war, ranks etc.  I'll see what I can come up with regarding Alfred Hammer.

Hi guys.. I am not a part of the build.. But I have just started building the 1/32 Hasegawa  Erich Hartmann Bf109G-14, and he actually had 2 colour schemes.. The first was an all white aircraft with the yellow band and the sharp black markings on the nose.. The later scheme was a grey green, and violet grey camo with a yellow stripe and large white number (1)...  I will be doing the all white scheme..

Chris

On the bench:

                          1/48 RAAF 3 Sqn F/A-18B

                          1/150 /1/160 N Scale Japanese Rail diorama.
