A dremel tool or the like works wonders for removing those racks, I use a sanding drum with the coarse paper at a low speed.I'll be doing the same thing on the fifteenth!

Greg, I've messed with some PE sets for my 1/48 B-17G (eduard & Verlinden stuff) but, I am curious about the removal of moulded-on kit parts. Someone said the torp mounts gotta come off the deck along with the tow rails.  Instructions aren't too clear...Confused [%-)]

   I'll be spending the next week clearing off tables so I have some room to work !  WEM sets are pretty nice, just make sure you have some sharp nippers, and wear gloves !  The little  cuts will drive you insane...

EPinninger - the thing about the S-boots is there are several interesting color chemes you can choose from.  The Baltics S-boots had some very interesting disruptive camo on some of them, I'll dig up the refs someone sent me and post them here.  Also there is the opportunity to do a very specific S-boot that carried a 40mm Bofors on the rear deck sintead of the 20, it looked almost out of place it was so comparitively large!  Revell is also coming out with a new release of the S-boot with a quad 20mm mount on the back.

I'll almost certainly be joining this GB, though I usually post on Modelwarships.com! Not sure what I'll build yet as I have quite a few suitable kits in the stash (Revell and Airfix S-boats, Revell PT, Airfix Vosper and Tamiya Perkasa). I've already built the Revell Vosper MTB; it's what got me interested in ship modelling in general and large-scale subjects in particular.
I'm inclined towards picking the Revell S-100 - I've built so many old kits recently that it'd make a nice change to build something that doesn't require hours of scratchbuilding and superdetailing for a decent result Big Smile [:D]
On the other hand, there are quite a few other Revell S-100s in this GB already -  maybe the Airfix Vosper or S-7 would be a better choice?

It's a late war '80 Elco. Someone posted here (in ships) about it not too long ago. Gonna be a decent size kit thoSmile [:)]

I understand that the 1/35 scale kit is a 80' Elco.

I have on order (from Hannants in the UK) a 1/72 Italian MAS PT boat from Italeri which I believe will be release mid-May.

I was thinking of something much more ambitious in view of the fact that practically all the information one could ever wish for is in Mr Ross and Mr Lambert's books.

My options the easiest first:

Airfix Vosper;

Revell Vosper;

Converstion of the Airfix Rescue Launch to Motor Gun Boat; and

Scratchbuild...

The heart says scratchbuild but the head says Airfix Vosper: I need to think this through over the weekend.

Ok thinking process over:

Plan A: I shall attempt to scratchbuild a a "Dog Boat", Fairmile 'D' Class Boat.

Whilst I don't get very much time for modelling I have a few days in the week beginning 15 May when I know I will be able to crack on with the work. So, the plan is to build the hull that week. If I don't complete the hull, the project will be aborted for Plan B -

Plan B: convert the Airfix RAF Rescue Launch to a British Power Boat MGB.

I have also decided that if I spent half the time that I think about modelling actually doing it I'd get a lot more done!

Incidentally is anyone sitting on the edge of their seats waiting for the Italieri MAS Boat to build?

Good, I ordered mine today.

Any idea about the painting scheme for PT-117? what is the good green ?

Michel

PT-117 was destroyed by Jap aircraft at Rendova Harbor Aug 1,1943(?) (date shown as: 1.8.43)

as for the colors, I'd think it's the same as 109. Others may know more.

Hmmmm.... I am really busy, but I must join this GB or I'll never build my Revell PT 117 model.

I start to look for some aftermarket parts, and I already ask a question : the boxart shows the model in green uppersurface/blue-grey below waterline tones, though the instructions ask to paint the model in grey uppersurface / red below waterline.  What is the good painting scheme?

All right then.  I have a 1/72 scale Tamiya Perkasa that I have had on the shelf for a number of years.  I was not going to build it for a while but for this I guess I will move it up the queue.  It is is a little more modern than some of the others being suggested but it ought to fit in well enough.  Count me in.
