I've still got 3 good tubes to work with although sanding has begun on all of them. I'm bound to get at least one of them rightBig Smile [:D] I will keep your offer in mind though. Thanks.

if you'd like, I can send you the tubes from my PT kit (I won't be using them), and cobble together a tube that is correct. Then send it back to me, I'll make a mold and solid cast it in resin.

Thanks for the offer Greg, you are right, we could always use torp tubes! How would we make a master & cast them anyways?

Mr Postie has brought me some very nice packages:

Mr Ross's drawings of BPB MGB75;

A bundle of sets from Great Little Ships; and

A parcel with some interesting music to listen to.

I now just need to get around to doing something!

Sounds to me that we are going to have some fantastic entries in this build !  Some of the craft and weapons being discussed are unknown to me, and that is the best reason in the world to get together and model : to learn more.

Looking forward to seeing everyone's boats coming together.

Yessiree Captain [4:-)] I agree with ya on thisApprove [^]  I just removed the charthouse door on my PT-109 & am having to clean it up very carefully as the 1 side is soooo thin & I really don't want to break it.

Strictly FYI:

Photos of the Navalised 6 Pdr 77mm Quick Firing (Auto-Loader) on a Mark VII Power Mounting.

This is From the Conway Anatomy of a Ship Series, Fairmile 'D'  drawings by John Lambert, his site is listed on previous post.
About the only part I recognise as a 6 pdr is the recuperator under the barrel in John Lamberts' drawings

nb, photobucket is a practice for further postings!

I was convinced the 6pdr drawings were not on John's website (having looked once).

Whilst I think I'm now committed to the Vosper Type 2, I'm still trying to hunt (garage, loft, study, spare room) for the Airfix Magazine article from February 1980 on the BPB MGB by John Pritchard. I've found an article of his from August 1980 on RAF HSL's.

Oops.  I was going to send that to you, wasn't I?  Will scan it and send it sometime tonight.

Al

You did send me the plans! (thanks again). I was searching for the original article which I am now convinced I must have somewhere.

Give up? Ok, it's an Italian MAS20 torpedo boat...I'll be doing it in 1/72 scale, complete with engines and interior...

Besides being in the D Anatomy, the 6 pdr drawings are also available through John's plan service - www.lambert-plans.com

I suspect he may have held out these drawings for V3, as the 6pdr was fitted to the BPB 71'6" MTB.

Ok, so here's a question for the group...

Would a 173' PC-461 patrol craft qualify??? It is after all, a PATROL craft, it's just slightly bigger...ok, more than twice the size of an Elco...

I just finished my S-100 (1/32, scratch), and I thought I wanted to do another one...but I think I'm going to do a 1/96 scale (8ft=1in.) PC-461 instead.

I'm burned out on S-100s at present.

ACF Vol 1 was my first port of call for information on the 6pdr. A lot of information on the Fairmile 'D' is common to both books but the 6pdr 7cwt QF only appears in the 'Anatomy of the Ship' book:

http://www.conwaymaritime.com/book/184486006X

(there is presently a deal at Amazon and I suspect you can buy it cheaper than the recommended price on the publishers website).

I found this book out because I initially had grand ambitions to scratchbuild a 'Dog Boat' as part of the Group Build.  Given the time available common sense prevailed (I think!).

Al

(And off topic - in searching for that link above I have just ordered Al Ross's book on the Campbeltown)

Al, you had mentioned the Fairmile D and that is whay I mentioned ACF Vol.1. I almost bought it when I had ordered the ACF Vol.2. I know there's alot of drawings in it  but, didn't know the 6pdr wasn't in there.

Er no. Surprisingly ACF vol. 1 does not have drawings of the 6pdr. I was refering to the 'Anatomy of the Ship' series volume on the Fairmile that John wrote

I've 'done' the Great Little Ships site; emailed them and had a response (I'm not holding my breath that the 6pdr will be available during this Group Build). Whilst I have quite a few goodies on the way from them, the 6pdr is going to have to be scratch built.  There are really good plans and drawings in John Lambert's book of the Fairmile 'D'.

That would be ACF vol.1 as there's a great deal of info in it. ACF V1 covers the FAIRMILE A, B, C, D, F, & H, the HDML, and the 110' SC. Just thought I'd share this with the groupBig Smile [:D]
