Whoo hoo!
The custom tail decals were successful!  I drew the logo up
in photoshop and then printed them with Kinko's laser printer.

I highly recommend the laser paper at "bare-metal.com"

Still a little shiny from the glosscoat.  All that is left is the
weathering layer (which I will do with chalk), then the final
matte coate.  Also, I need to prep the base.

hey guys, can I join?

I recently got back into modeling after like a year hiatus and I picked an old Hasegawa F-16 block 30 to get back into modelling shape (that doesnt sound quite right...)

if not, than I won't throw too big of a tantrum :D

thanks! I'm stuck on the cockpit now. Is it better to paint the panels dark gray or black? the instructions call for black but I keep on seeing dark gray panels

Hey guys,

Got my NY Viper decaled last night.  Right now I've gotta give it another coat of gloss, hit it with an oil wash and then flat coat it.  After that, I'll take care of the weapons and she'll be done!

Here's the pics!

Nice work Cobrahistorian!  Ahh the ol' "Boys from Syracuse".  Brings me back to when the A-10's were stationed there.  BTW, where did you purchase the decals?  Or did you make them?  (sorry if you addressed this earlier)  They are magnificent.  Also, I've never seen the cobra colored green before.  Just the gray outline.  It looks awesome!

Starbuck,

They're the Expert's Choice decals.  Comes with both line jet and wing boss (full color) markings.  I'm actually doing this particular jet in both NY and Texas markings, since I'm from NY and my wife is from TX.  There is another sheet available (Super Scale, I believe) that has the current wing boss bird markings 85-0551.

Glad ya like it!  I did an oil wash on it this afternoon.  Next will be dull coat and then weapons.  Almost finished!

finally some pics from meeeeee

only been working on the cockpit.

this friggin camera is showing every single mistake I make, so to simulate what I see, take like 10 steps back away from the screen.

as you can see, I am fixing up some parts and finishing others. this is merely a trial dry-fit.

the instrument panels have to back off from the seats :D

Here's my next Viper.  It, like my NY one is 87-0255, this time in its current markings as the wing commander's aircraft for the TX ANG.

Have a B and D in the works as well!

I've been working on that 1:48 hasegawa F-16C, and with
any luck, I might just finish it before the deadline!

I've almost finished painting the Black Box resin cockpit.  I'm going
to use a Falcon vacu-form canopy in the closed position, which will
require a WHOLE LOT of putty and sanding around the canopy frame.
That's the biggest challange with my build.  When (or rather "if") I can
get past that challange, I expect that it will be all downhill from there.

I'll post pics later to show what I mean about the vacu-form part.

As promised: a vacuform canopy picture.

The difference is apparent by comparing images in large view.  It
is even more apparent when you hold it, because the motion is
not at all distorted by irregularities in the clear plastic.

But note the area in the corner that will require some challanging
putty work too!  Lots of work, but hopefully the clear view of the
Black Box cockpit with the canopy closed will be a good effect.

canopy looks awsome, should be a easy fit, or you could have it posed open...

I want to maintain the Viper's naturally aerodynamic look by
putting the canopy in the closed position.  I will also have
challanges at the joint between the vacuformed forward
canopy dome, and the vacuformed rear canopy delta.  I
will likely have to scratchbuild a little bit using stock styrene.

Also, I cutting out the flaperons and will dsiplay them with
about 10-deg of down angle, and I cut off the airbrakes,
which will be displayed about halfway open.

I've got a long winter break ahead starting today!  I'm am
really looking forward to getting some work completed on
this model.

can anybody post a pic of their intakes looking directly in?

I dunno what to do because this kit is 18 years old and there is a wall about half way in the intake

thanks!

Paint that wall to look like a turbine's compressor fan.

I bought a seamless sucker from Cutting Edge.  It looks sweet.

Will show pictures later.

This website has a good intake photo on an F-16 model:

UPDATE:

I painted the inside of the intake.  It took me at least an hour
to get this masked properly.  I wonder if Anthony bought a different
seamless sucker part.  The panel lines on this one look about right
to me, but he had to scribe lines on his part.  This one is also nice
because it is molded in white and doesn't requrie painting inside.

See the link above for more info.

Anyone elese have updates?

Well.. no responses yet.
This build goes until Feb 2, but a lot of things still need to
happen before this 1:48 Hasegawa is ready.  I did mount the
air intake, which looks way sweet, I think.

There's a big bright smiling viper!

Can anyone spot the MONSTER seam behind the intake?
That baby is at least 1/8"

I'm gonna keep rollin forward.  If the momentum keeps up,
I might have the airframe built, even if there are no weapons
or other such things yet.

Another photo update.  Still building & fine-tuning the structure.
I added a number of durable metal antennas, anchored in the plastic.
Just a few more things to do before the primer layer, woo hoo!

I tried a little experiment with some decals on the pilot helmet.
After half-a-dozen microsol layers....
