Very nice work Anthony!

I'm still humming along on mine.  I've decided to build two F-16Cs as 87-0255, the first in its NY ANG Wing Boss markings and the second after it was transferred to the TX ANG, where it currently serves.  Both will be on display in my home, since I'm originally a New Yorker and my wife is originally a Texan.  Cool thing is, we saw this particular bird in 2002 at the Lubbock Airshow, where it was carrying baggage pods with special Texas Tech University markings.  We met at TTU in 2001, so its pretty cool!

The NY bird is about 70% done (I'll post pics when I get home) and the TX one is about 30% done.

Take care!

Jon

Progress Update:

I've painted my first model surface ever with an airbrush.  I am finding the
airbrush a pleasant change, and a complex learning process all at once.
The acrylics are very different in many ways, and I was most impressed
with the general workability of the material.  More than once did I actually
buff out blemishes as the paint dried.  Try that with enamels!

This paint layer went on thicker than intended, but being my first time, it
could have gone worse :/

I'm just glad that I started on the bottom side.  For the top side, I will try
applying a slimmer base coat.

Hopefully tommorow i'll get some work done on the tub and be able to close it up (Cross fingers) without any problems. I have a lot of work to do on the F-2 it's kind of been sitting on the backburner while i play with my other projects.

Kenny can't wait to see your kit.

IL looks awesome.

Hey all,

Here's my first Viper.  Its about 70% done, but I've gotta respray some of the Gunship Gray to get that harder edge on the camo.  I haven't detailed the gear, nose or weapons, but I wanted to get some progress pics up.

Beautiful work guys!

Anthony, your aircraft is really great to look at.  There are
so many interesting areas that it's like being inside the hangar
of a maintenance squadron.

Lone, I love those decals on the nose of your model.  Those flages
really makes your YF version stand out nicely.

Cobra's model looks really good too!  I like seeing the grayscale
vipers, because that's how they look around my house.    My next
F-16 will be in gray.

------

Update on the F-16 AFTI:

I applied the base paint layer to the top of my model, but it is
way too dark!  I'll plan to post pics in another thread about the
huge color inaccuracy of the Pollyscale acrylics I used.  The
darkness of this neutral gray is so wrong that it's like getting
maroon instead of bright red.  Annoying... :P

So anyway: minor setback, but no big deal.  I'm gonna go buy
some modelmaster paints.  I hear their acrylics colors are dead
on accurate.

Great work above!  The build has produced some nice Falcons.

Well... just got back from the hobby shop and it turns out
that I used the wrong paint!  Pollyscale has two very different
colored paints that are both named "US Neutral Gray".  Go figure...

Anyways, gotta repaint the upper surface.  I'm trying to stay
optimisitic however, because hopefully I can use the dark base
coat to create a bit of panel shading on the model.  That will be
good practice for my newbi airbrushing hands :)

Progress Update:
I've almost finished the base paint, just a few little places left to work.
I'll probably put down the first clear-coat layer tommorrow, then prep
for decals :)

The AFTI had several minor color variations over time.  This is the version I am modeling:

Ok guys, here's what I've got:

Four Hasegawa 1:48th Vipers.  A B, two C's and a D.  Two I'm doing for the ARC Reserves/Guard GB and two I'm doing for this one!  Got two more coming after this, both will be Guard birds, but they'll be a CG and CJ.

Something about army aviation types building F-16 models...

Anyway, I re-started working on the revell ADF kit last night.  I glued the upper & lower fuse pieces together then added the radome.  I used a tip I got from another modeling friend & used Wite Out Super Smooth, not Liquid Paper, to blend the seams in the intake.  I also tried using it to fill a rather large gap at the base of the tail that was there in part by my failure to aligning the parts while I was gluing them together.  Hasn't work real well, as this stuff is petty thin. I'll just put a sliver of sheet styrene in there when I get the chance.  Its drill weekend, & a MUTA 5 at that, plus our annual Family Day/ Class A inspection.  Much fun...  not.

I'm giving this kit all my attention & I hope to have it finished by the end of the year so I can start on all three F-16 from the 2Bobs Lone Star Gunfighters sheet.  I guess I'll find out how much time an assembly line approach to modeling the same kit  will save.

Gotta love those class A inspections....

I've been focusing on correcting the wingtip missile rails today.  Gotta make em LAU-129s instead of the non-AMRAAM capable ones that come molded on the wing.  Isn't really a big deal, but its a little time consuming.  Just have to add some sheet styrene and sand to shape.

Building this many simultaneously is actually fairly easy.  Just working it like an assembly line.  I'm just waiting on getting my last two (a CG in Ohio markings and a CJ in South Carolina markings) and I'll have six Guard Vipers and one General Dynamics/Lockheed Martin CAS testbed.  I'll be done with Vipers for a while after that!

Hey Chris, out of curiosity, where in NY are you from?  Hastings on Hudson here!

I was born & raised in Brooklyn, not to far away from where Ebbets Field once stood.

I'm anxious to get started on the other three Hasegawa kits.  The San Antonio IPMS cahpters show is in Febuary.  Would be cool to enter three models of their home town birds.  I'm kind of knocking the rust off/trying new things with the Revell ADF kit since it is a bit easier to build than the Hase kits.

Chris,

Cool stuff.  We've got the Montgomery show coming up this spring, so I'm hoping I'll have my F-16D done by then.  Not sure if it'll win anything, but it'll be nice to display.  I'm hoping my Apaches'll do well there though!

Brooklyn, huh?  Spent the first 5 years of my life at 205 E 17th St in Flatbush.  They let me out for good behavior the end of my Kindergarten year.  Moved to Westchester after that.

Painted the white stripes on the tail today:

I put down the gloss-coat tonight, looking forward to decals tommorrow :)

I will need to make a custom laser-printer decal for this tail logo --^
