Looks great, dude.
You're model is coming together quickly.

That masking should work ok.  Make sure that you rub the edges
of the tape down really good.  I almost never paint the interior of
the canopy.  I think your plan to paint black followed by gray is best.
Check out this close-up of an F-16 canopy.  With some clever masking,
you might be able to create the black frame around parts of the canopy.
I'm not sure if the two-seater has these black areas too.

Are you using acrylics or enamels?  I prefer using acrylics on canopies
because they can be removed from undesired locations very easily
using windex and a toothpick.  Enamel-removal leaves fuzzy spots.

Thanks!

Yes, it has been going pretty fast this time Smile [:)]

I'll make sure it's tight. I'll try to paint it that way. Yes the two-seater looks that way too. Like this one:

http://www.f-16.net/gallery_item45626.html

I just opened up a new can of matt black Humbrol, and stirred and stirred, but somehow it never dryed, and never turned matt either. I'll try with acrylics instead, sounds easier.

Some more progress!

Painted the underside in Hu127.

Noticed that I missed a little and have to redo some filling. :)

The exhaust!

Needs a little touch up too.

I masked the canopy, painted the frame black (the color problem is solved) and then I did some more masking and painted grey.

I'll fix the excess black later, now I need the canopy to protect the cockpit while handling the plane.

Painted some of the loadout too!

I'll modify the Sidewinders something like this

Ok, here we go bringing this up from the almost dead Smile [:)]

A friend of mine was friendly enough to let me borrow his airbrush and compressor. After doing some practice on different things, I decided to try on a model too. Went pretty well I think, meaning it could have been worse Smile [:)]

I think I'll do another layer and try to get it a little more even. I think my pace was a little high and caused streaks in the paint.

Cheers,

OK everyone, I just learned of this GB and I just finished my Hasegawa F-16A in 1/48 scale.

This started out as the Tiger Meet kit and I had troubles with the decals so I decided to make it an Israeli F-16 because I love their camo paint jobs on their aircraft.

This is one of the eight F-16's that bombed Saddam's reactor at Osirak back in 1981.

I agree, that is a sweet Viper.

You build reminds me of my own.  I haven't worked on it
much lately, but I'm building a 388th F-16C as it appeared
during desert storm.  It's fun to do alot of research for a build.

Finally time to remove the masking or demasking. Anyway here's how it looks!

And top side!

Considering this is one of my first attempts at airbrushing, it turned out better then I hoped it would. I used blu tack in some places, but it wasn't easy to remove, although I got the tip to use the blu tack to help remove, it still feels kind of tacky. Can I use something to clean it up without risking the paint?

Looks sweet!

Did you use the blue tack on the canopy?

Thanks IL2 and Kenny!

No, only where I needed a soft edged demarcation line. Someone told me I could try some detergent and water.

Well if that's the case, and it has no visible trace, then I
would just leave it be and clear-coat the area before it
gets the chance to collect dust.  Then you'll have a real problem!

Water & detergent could potentially foul up your paint job.
I can almost guarantee it will if you used acrylics.

Don't forget to mask the canopy before your clearcote! LOL

Yeah that looks sweet.
I like the cockpit decals, that's always a nice feature.

IL2,

Then I think I'll leave it be. I'll do some minor touch ups before the clear coat. I don't want to risk messing with the paint.

GA,

Looks nice! Those PE parts sure looks nice! Love to see more!

well i have hit my frist real bad snfu. while putting together the top and bottom fuslage together.  i had the following all break off. the rear bulkhead for the cockpit, the left side photo etch panel, and one very small control knob and one t-handle on the right side of the cockpit. needless to say that was it for last nights building. i spent about 30 minutes looking for the small pe stuff that went onto the carpet monster but the good news i found all of them. i have all ready got the bulkhead back into the fuslage and i am working on the rest of the pe today. the i will try and get the i/p done and then ready for painting.
