Auto racing GB March 2007-2008

Btw, looks like I got sorted on the Pennzoil yellow - will try chrome yellow. If the scale was larger, I'd pearl clear it, but on 1:43 it should be okay as is. Apparently the metallic is only visible when you're right next to the car. I certainly could not pick it up on tv.

Engine is 90% done-not happy with the color (steel) on the headers so I'm going to strip them and paint then flat white.  At some point, I might run fuel lines & ingition wires, but not soon.  Interior is done, exterior is done.  Thinking about stripping the chrome from the rims (too heavy) and painting to look like real mag wheels-kinda a grey/black.

Finally repainted the Stratos body today....just a little touch up here and there...

I just have to put some interior together in the body and attach the body to the frame and decal!

btp2k2-The Stratos looks good.  Looking forward to seeing the finished product.  That is a car that I need to add to my 'need to build' list.

I'm just a few steps from being complete.  I've decided to de-chrome the wheels and some other bits.  The Willy's is a great kit-but the chrome plating is a bit heavy.  And a lot of parts have attachment points that will show once de-attached.  Should be complete by the end of the month.  Then I've got to decide on a build for the upcoming (I hope) Endurance GB.

Thanks Bob. The Stratos is an older Hasegawa, nice kit despite not having an engine.

I got a little derailed when the lacquer rattle can I used for the green reacted poorly to the enamel I used for the white. Since this is a harder to find kit, I was a bit reluctant to throw the body into Superclean...afraid of pulling out a melted ball of plastic. Well, as you can that turned out OK....since then I bought an airbrush and this is the result....

I put together the interior and attached the frame to the body. Next up is all the little extras (mirrors, flood light rack, body hinges, etc)

sorry been gone for long time, and finally back on track.  as for my dale #3 from revell,  Im almost done with it.  Im waiting for the weather to get warm so i can spray paint the body of the car since i dont have spray booth with vent machine.  boy it has been long time since i do car model,  did make few errors but i made it   whew.  I will post up the pictures soon as i can. 

I am wondering if its possbile to finish it little after the deadline which i know this month.  let me know since im waiting for the right weather to do the spray paint.  thanks

Hey all....a little too quiet around here.  Made some progress on the Willys this weekend.  Finally got the rims painted a shade of magnesium....well, you know, the stuff that real mag wheels are made of.  My original goal was to strip the chrome plating (too heavy) and spray chrome.  Well, that didn't work with spray can chrome-couldn't get the right amount. 

The chasis is done...the body & decals are done.  Interior is done-just need to put in the glass and attach the body.  Discovered that the front glass has 'weather stripping' around it, so I need to mask & paint it though.  Also, this engine is crying out for spark plugs and fuel lines...maybe next time.  I have another on in the stash and Slixx decals for the blue version, along with Big John Mazmanian's Candy Apple Red Willys....wonder how many times I'll have to repaint that one?

Body is just on for the photo-still needs glass and the body accessories (headlamps, tail lamps & chute) attached.

btw-is the Endurance GB a go?  If so, I need to start cruising eBay to find a build.......

Very impressive, Bob! You said what the method was that did not work - how dod you eventually get the magnesion finish - Alclad?

Just finished my Lotus 107B, will take some pics and post them soon... The Hornish Dallara is yellow, just started some of the other parts' base coats as well, so prelim fitting may start shortly.

I sure hope the Endurance GB is a go, I am clearing space for the DBR9 as we speak! Will just peek around it untill we get started officially.

the decals was little hard on the tires since its abt 10 years old kit.  hopefully i can put it on the body.

Hey y'all...just checking in with an update.

My daughter turned the Bill Elliott McDonald's Taurus over to me, saying she very much prefers looking at cars to building them. So far I have the engine built and washed and the frame painted. I also painted and decaled the seat and threw a flat coat on it, and i was shocked at just how realistic the decal seat belts looked after the flat coat.

Well, the Willys is done.  The Monogram kit offers some great components, but there are some issues.  The windshield doesn't fit well-not a good thing to discover AFTER painting.  Also, the chrome plating is a bit heavy and no seat belts .  Also, the decals were a bit suspect.  I ended up using Slixx decals (great as always).  However, the kit has the potential to be detailed to the max.  I'm still thinking about going back in later and adding spark plug wiring.

edit-I shot these pics outside and unfortunatly, black shows cat hair & pollen REALLY bad.

My painting skills are a bit lacking and black is always hard.  A bit of orange peel, but maybe next time.

I've enjoyed building with everyone and am looking forward to the Endurance & Ralley GB's.

   Hey all. Dont mean to rob the thread, but have a problem.  I have a 1/12 scale NICHIMO LOTUS EUROPA SPECIAL rally model I want to get rid of. Pics are posted in AUTO forum. My brother started it back in the 90`s, but died 5 years ago. I will never finish it and would LOVE to trade or sell. I build 1/32 aircraft. The engine is the only assemby done.Thank you all..........Harv

Thanks Harvey-it was a fun build.  A lot of history in that car/team.

Sorry there isn't any interest in the Lotus.  Not may auto builders hang out here-just the 'usual regulars'.  You might look at scaleauto.com or eBay for better results.  Looks like a neat kit though.
