Some prices for decals are just rediculous !

I  looked into swuadron.com for decals of Gabby's last plane and found those:

"Thunderbolt Aces Memorial"  $11.30 made by Eduard.

It is almost 50% of what I paid for the Hasegawa kit ! It is almost like "Get Rich Quick" Big Smile [:D]

If you don't mind I'd like to join this build. Being that the Jug is my favorite bird. I'll be doing an oldie but a goodie(maybe 2 or 3, we'll see). Monogram's 1/48 Razorback.

Hi Semibold !

 Sign - Welcome [#welcome]

YOU ARE IN ! Welcome to the Group

I got the Tamiya kit  and this roughly needs any AM. Besides the seatbelts I did not use anything out of the PE set, even the IP was OK. I am not sure how the cockpit detailes look on Academy kit, but If I would do it myself, I pick the resin from whoever has one ( and just get seatbelts for US WWII craft.

This one looks good and reaasonable price:

http://www.squadron.com/ItemDetails.asp?item=TD48483

but this one may have a much more detailes (and higher price)

I keep going with my Tamiya P-47M. Primer is done, patching and sanding done and now I painted metal on leading edges wings and horizontal stabilizers. Canopy also painted.

Be careful with the recommendations, gzt.  Those are AM parts for a Hasegawa, and semibold's building an Academy Jug.

They might fit, they might not.  I once tried Eduard masks for a Tamiya kit on a Hasegawa, and they weren't even close.

But check with squadron.com, sprue brothers and maybe a few other places.  Hasegawa and tamiya seem to have the most AM parts.

OOOPS ! Sign - Oops [#oops]

Thanks Fred for the info. It looks I will have (potentially a problem) I did not pay attention to the resin kit application thinking that it requires heavy sanding to fit anyway. But experience says otherwise Angry [:(!]

The GB officially starts on October 1st but some of us (you know who) are already building some Jugs Big Smile [:D]. I signed for just one Tamiya 1/48 Razorback (Gabby's plane) but I already have 1/48 Hasegawa P-47D-25 and today I received decals for last Gabby's Jug ... so it looks I will have three JUGs soon Big Smile [:D]

Welcome again and enjoy tonight's show on History Channel - starts at 10PM EDT and goes for 2 hours !

First time ? Hmmm. THIS IS AWSOME ! I am not sure that I can be so patient. I tried few times (Jug is my third kit I am working on) but it was a dissaster. Only what I was able to use were seatbelts. My first attempt to do an IP was ... OK but not really something I am praud of.

Your cockpit is really nice !

Keep those pictures coming

Just last night I was looking at my Tamiya 1/48 Jug -M and I realized (again) : it is a huge plane. I can imagine the 1/24 would look like Big Smile [:D] A very impressive expo !

I am trying to stick with a single scale and not to mix but some of those large scale models just screeming: build me !

LOL Big Smile [:D]

NICE !

It will be a real beast Big Smile [:D]

I drove through CT today and stopped at I-91 exit 45; and I found a very nice small LHS. WHAT A Threasure! a big surprise !

I even picked a Mr. Surfacer ... probobly 500 but all writing is in Japanese. Hundreds if not thousands of kits ! Not like the one I usually go to. I think I will go more often south Big Smile [:D]

Tons of books I did not even see yet. I think I will pick one more P-47D there next Friday (they have a meeting out there for local guys)

Today I got red paint and will spray engine couling and a rudder.

a little update on my P-47M.

Tamiya did a very good job with this design, however, I did not take advantage of some features (like a separate rudder) and it cost me more time spent on masking ... finaly ran out of a wide  masking tape tonight Angry [:(!]

as you can see, I was also experimenting with the "special" paint for this craft. It was painted with black automotive paint, what depends on the light, give some effect of dark blue or black. I am not sure what effect it will have on the whole aircraft but it matched a box art very accurate. Also an "original" Mike Gladych model painted with the original paint looks pretty close to me. Possibly this Weekend I will put a coat on this craft.

Count me in. I'm starting with a Hasegawa P-47D in 1/48th scale, will be converting it as a field conversion "Doublebolt" trainer.

It's the same a/c I described earlier.  Smile [:)] It has the green over grey camouflage on the upper surfaces and the lighter grey lowers.

BTW, count me in for the build.  Don't know exactly what I'll build, but I"ll pass that along shortly.
