Fred,

Any possibility of a cross-over GB?  I'm currently building a Monogram Corsair for the Classic Kits GB (the only progress made to this point is the interior green painting).  And with my pending family obligations and home improvement projects, I'm not likely to be doing any more work on that kit until at least April 15th.

Fred,

If you've got room for a Rookie, I'll try to do a 1:48 Tamiya F4U-1D my lovely wife got me for Christmas.  Maybe with help from all you guys, I can get it done in a year!  Big Smile [:D]

Welcome aboard, Hartmann, aggie, kbuzz and raptor - nice to have y'all in the group.

Joe, you can get the badge one of two ways; you can go to the post where it's posted and either: right click, "save as", save it to your hardrive and upload it to a photo hosting account (like photobucket or flikr), or, if Frank is willing to host it on his photobucket account, click the picture, right click on the "pop-up" picture, click on properties and copy the URL, including the image ( [img] ) tags and then paste it into your signature (under the "update profile" tab near the top of the screen).

Fred, if this suits you, you should be able to right click it, the use "save target as"{, and save it to your computer, or if you want me to host it copy this text and past it into your signature.

Wow, this GB really got a big start.  I'm expecting some detail parts tomorrow, then I'm going to clear the rolling target off my bench to get started on the F4U-5N.  Has anyone here ever weathered a flat black aircraft before?  I'm going to need some help with that.

Chris

That is freakin' awesome, John!  Thank you so much.

I tried saving it to my machine and uploading it to photobucket as a movie, but all I get is an enlarged snapshot of part of a frame.

If you could host it for me, that would really be appreciated.

Thanks,

Fred

Hey Fred, do you know what markings you'll be using on your F4U-4? The reason I ask is that I was looking through my stash and found a Third Group decal sheet that included markings for a very colorful bird based in Olathe, Kansas during 1956....flat light gull grey, gloss white, gloss & flat sea blue, and an international orange fuselage band. It's yours if you want it. Thumbs Up [tup]

Speaking of Corsair decals, does anyone know where I can get my hands on a set of Fleet Air Arm Corsair decals in 1/48?  Techmod made a set, but the only place that had them was Meteor. Disapprove [V]

Hey Frank, try here http://www.flightdecs.ca/index1.htm set number 48041 appears to be in stock.

This site www.flightdecs.ca is a great site for anyone looking for decals.

Sign me up for this one too Gigatron, I don't have anything in the stash but I'll let you know when I have something.

Thanks Dave!  I tried to order them, but I didn't see a button on the site to purchase them, and clicking on them directly seemed to take me directly to TechMod's site.  How do I actually order them? Confused [%-)]

Thanks for the offer, Mike Big Smile [:D]

I have no idea which markings I'm using just yet.  This one's mostly going to be focusing on the AM stuff, the wing fold and open gun bays.  My original plan was just to use whatever markings were included, but the colorful bird does sound tempting.

Know of any color pictures of the bird in question?

Joe, go into your signature and before the URL, type {img}  and at the end, type {/img} - except, replace { and } with [ and ].  If I use [ and ] in my explanation, it thinks I'm trying to post a picture, Laugh [(-D].  That should turn the code into an actual picture.

Hope that helps.

Just a question. Is this a F4U group build like the Logo says or is it a general Corsair GB. i understand that obviously i can't build-up an A-7 Corsair II, but what about an F2G?????

Thanks Fred.  I tried what you said and all I got was more key strokes showing up in the spot for the picture....darn if that just embarasses me at my age big time.  Afraid I'm not much good at this computer thing and I'm worried about posting good pics so I can really be a part of this build group.  Therefore, I'm going to bow out as gracefully as possible from this build group.  Will follow along as I build mine.  Sorry for messing up.  Best regards, Joe

Joe, don't you dare drop out just because of this badge thing.  I'm going to do my darndest to help you get it in there, ok?

Besides, the badge is just a tiny, insignificant part of the project.  Just hang in there, buddy.

Ok, Joe.  I'm hosting the standard GB badge for this, now.  All you have to do is click on the badge in this post.  when it pops up in a new window, right click the window and scroll down to properties.  click on properties.  A URL should be there, copy the entire thing and paste in your signature.  At the front of the URL, type in [ img ] (take out the spaces) and at the end of the URL, type in [ /img ] (take out the spaces).  Make sure there are no spaces be tween the img tag and the URL - it should look like one long word.

The code should look exactly like this, except you need to remove the space between the [ and I at the front and the space between G and ] and the end,

[ IMG]http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c362/gigatron_2000/corsairgb3-.jpg[/IMG ]

And if it still doesn't work, who cares, we still want you involved in the GB.

Hey NPS, since the F2G was based on the F4U-1, I say why the heck not.  It's essentially the same bird.

Hey Mike, nifty looking plane, but I think I'm going to stick with the overall dark sea blue on this build.  But mucho thanks for the offer, buddy Cool [8D] Big Smile [:D] Thumbs Up [tup]

Joe, I had the same problem with my First Group Build, I read and Re-read the "How To" in the Community Assistance section.  Bgrigg has an exellent tutorial on Posting Pics. Once I got set up with Photobucket it was easy.  Also I had the Help of a 13 yr old Forum Member guide me along. Now there is No Reason to Be Embarassed. If I could learn to do it at 43 - anyone can.  Jump Back in and Have some Fun.

Joe, glad you got your computer glitch fixed! Folks here are really nice and helpful, they dont poke (too much) fun at us hobby newbies/rookies/returnees ;)  nothing but lots of help, CONSTRUCTIVE feedback and support!

I am about 15 GBs "in the hole" already, but since this one ends next year, I can start in 12-14 months! :)

I have two oldies in my stash, not sure how good are they:

Revell 1:48 F4U-4 and the Tamiya 1:72 F4U-1D. I prefer 1:48, easier on my eyes!

Any experience with these kits, specially the Revell?

Fred,

I looked around and couldn't really find any after market goodies that I liked for the Birdcage Corsair so I'm switching to the Tamiya 1:48 F4U-1D.

Good thing I have an understanding and indulgent COMNAVHOUSEPAC so I don't have to spend hours explaining to her that while yes, they are both Corsairs, they are actually different...

Regards,

Jeff

I'm in..

Modeling in 1/72, a Corsair IV (might leave it as a F4U-1D - Tamiya) - flown by Robert Hampton (Hammy) Gray VC.

 Should be fun :)

 Cheers,
Dave

With your help perhaps we can all build together and you folks can teach me how to use the computer to post build pics.  I'm looking forward to the fun.

Glad you decided to stay with us and join in on the fun, Joe! Thumbs Up [tup]

If you have a digital camera, posting pics of your work will be a snap. Just open a photobucket account (it's free), upload the pics into a folder on your computer and transfer them to your p-bucket account. Copy and paste the [ IMG ] link (the bottom choice) into your post, and voila! Looking forward to seeing your work!
