Thanks Harv!  I added it a couple of days ago, have wanted to for a while but finally did.  The Corsair is my first love when it comes to aircraft.  I still remember watching the show "Baa Baa Black Sheep" with my Dad back in the '70's, and falling in love with those planes.  WOOHOO!!!  Can't wait to start building!

Drew- Something tells me you will contribute A LOT during this GB!

Fred- I have a quick question.  WHile browsing through my parts stash for a resin seat, I came across the remains of a previous Tamiya Corsair I had tried to build but botched it partway through.  I salvaged what I could (the cockpit and engine) and other misc parts that had been cleaned up but not finished.  Is it OK to use these in my build here?

Just make sure to post some pics of this frankenstein corsair as you go.  I'd be interested to see how well (or if at all) parts from different kits go together.

I have built a number a Corsairs for my collection, and while at Walmart a few months ago, stumbled across this 1/32 scale 21st Century kit for $7.99.  After paying over $30 for the ancient, overwarped, full of flash Revell kit last year, I could only expect the worst for $7.99. 

Not a bad kit at all.  Kinda thick in the wings, and some modifying here and there to cover up screw holes. But this should be a fun one to relax and put together fro this build.  So count me in.

I still don't know how I going to paint it, my other two 1/32 F4Us are tri-color, so maybe all blue, but to me, it is kinda blah.

I also picked up the 1/32 Zero to play dog fights with when my wife is out of the house.

Bruce I checked the site I usually go to for down loadable kit instructions, but there was nothing there for the Hobbycraft F4U-4.

Guys I received the set of generic USN/USAAF late war seatbelts yesterday but I have decided to order a set of Ultracast replacement wheels for the kit as well because the ones supplied by Hasegawa look a bit anaemic.

Just as a note, this will be my first ever Corsair (I don't count the ones I did when I was 12) so I'll be looking to you experten for guidance.

Fred, mine showed up today. I am really impressed with the workmanship, now only if the worker will be able to master using it.

 Sean, I'll give you the same tips I got from the original designer when I bought mine at IPMS Seattle show two years ago.

First, take a fresh razor blade and run it across some fine sand paper. You want to just take the edge off so it won't cut you. the main reason for this is to prevent damage to the base during use. It's also handy to know if when you pick it up wrong

Second, to line up you piece, push the head down - don't use the screw knob, that way the "wiggle" room in the head can be utilized to help you line it all up. Once you have it pushed snug and lined up, tighten the cap just enough to hold it down. Now make the first fold 3/4 of the way up (if it's a 90 deg bend). Once you have done that, loosen the cap and re-position the part - you'll notice it is further back than when you started - then finish the bend running the blade across material like you are using your piece as a straight edge cutting the base (where the dulling the blade comes into play) pushing against the part to make a tight bend.

If you need more, shoot me an email and I'll try to help. It's a good idea to practice with some scrap brass shim shock to get the hang of what I am saying.

Sorry Ken.  It's easy to forget people when it comes to running these things.  You have people coming, going and changing their minds.  I'm lucky I remember to get anyone on that list .

And to think, I started this thing on a whim.  I had one to build and I was kinda half-joking when I suggested a GB.  I figured most people had already built a few corsairs in their time and at best, I'd get maybe 3 people interested in a build.  But, here we are, with 34 members signed up and still two before we even begin.

It says something about the Corsair doesn't it Just think, the Mustang build last year got no where

I think the corsair hits home more because of the TV show 'Black Sheep Squadron." We can all relate to it sitting down with our family to watch it. It reminded us of the principle roll they had in winning the Pacific campaign.
