Does anyone know of any AM sets for the JSU152 I posted earlier? Its kit #6047. I can't find anything at all. The kit is screaming for some AM goodness.

What was the cost of taking Berlin?  How many people from both sides died and how many tanks were destroyed?

Good question and one that can probably never be accurately answered. The best source I've heard is that the Russian lost something like 300,000 casualties. German war casualties were probably much less, unless you factor in all the civilians. Later in the 90's, after Russian documents were released, their casualties were even far greater. Much less than Stalingrad though.

Yes, I like wingnut, am stuck in 1:1 painting right now, along with a few other tasks, so I will miss the kick-off. I'm mentally exhausted from the past two weeks and look forward to some rain and my hobby-table.

Good luck Ernest, you're going to need it. Laugh [(-D]

 Hello All,

Got involved in a few too many projects and will most likely miss the opening day festivities. Hopefully will be finishing up in a few weeks. Looking forward to seeing the progress reports of the many talented people who have signed on. Hope to be at the bench with the Ford GPA soon.

I feel your pain Ernest! I had to keep pushing my JagdTiger off to the side so I could keep up with my other GB commitments and my review work over at armorama.com.  Sigh [sigh]

Two days.  Picked up some extras for the Panther yesterday at Hobby Town.  Nothing fancy (not photoetch or resin), just a couple of small boxes of 1/35th scale plastic doodads (packs, ammo boxes).  This is going to be primarily an OOB build, though I may try to scratch-build some details if I can get some good photo references (Picked up Panther in Action type book too).  See everyone Monday!

Only a few more hours guys! I'm not sure why I'm so excited for this build.

Are there any good reference books out on the JSU152?

Knowing how fast wingnut builds, he'll probably be finished before I can break open my box. LOL I'm not going to be able to start before next Monday. I still have more 1:1 and projects to get done around the house. With the impending rains about a month away, I should have time to get into this project.

Scott, I have another book for your recommended readings. It's called "Absolute War" by Chris Bellamy. I got it for Christmas but have not yet read it. It is about all of the second world war from the Soviet point of view but breaks every major event down into pretty good detail as far as I know skimming through it. May have some good stuff for the gb.Smile [:)]

Picked up Fall of Berlin 1945 a couple of days ago and started reading.  Great book.  The bizarre, willful blindness of the German High Command is almost mind-boggling.

I am slowing down... only a little... T-man.  But you are giving me a whole week so... maybeWink [;)]

I finished my Spitfire today so i should be starting this one soon.  I managed to tear a bunch of ligments in my arm over the weekend and I didn't think I would be able to build at all.  But the doc gave me a good combo of meds and the pain is really very manageable.  I smile a lot now and it's a tad difficult to get parts to line up properly... but at least it don't hurtTongue [:P]

Well, I ordered an Eduard PE set for my 152 today. I won't argue with a sale on greatmodels. I may be able to start cleaning up my 152 tomorrow. I don't work after school for once which is great. Can't wait to start.

Whoa!  Sorry to hear about your shoulder wing_nut.  I hope it heals soon cuz we definitely want to see another winner from your workbench!!  But then again.....with your injury I might have a fighting chance of finishing a build before you!!Whistling [:-^]    Yeah.....riiiiight Ernest.Laugh [(-D]

So this is what I'm going to attempt once I have time to work on it (like in January!).  Dragon's JS-2 m ChKZ Production Type.  I have some ModelKasten tracks that came with the kit (got it from ebay more than a year ago) and some Karaya tow cables that I've had for even longer so I might was well use them.  For the official start of this GB I opened the box, sniffed the styrene, snapped these photos and then....put everything back in the stash!!Blush [:I]

See you in a few months JS-2....Sad [:(]

What's the difference on this version as to other JS-II's?

Get well soon Marc. Angel [angel]

I have made a start. Got the primer on my Calibri 1:72 Gaz-67B and made a good start on assembling the 1:72 Italeri JS-2. All I am waiting for is some cobblestone road from Jadar. I goofed and got it sent via surface.

Cheers

Hi Scott,

can I join in this one? I don't do armour very often, but I want to do a 1/35 Universal Carrier for my Dad after Xmas. So I thought I had best get some practice in before then. I have a 1/72 Dragon Pro Panther G which has decals for the Herman Goering Division, East Prussia in January 1945 that fits in nicely with the requirements for this GB.

Scott: I'm going to be slow out of the gates on this one (I need to build my Urban Armor GB, Panther A and the dio' first but I plan to finish with flying colors!  I'm thinking about doing a dio' with the T34/85 from this GB AND my completed Panther G (from Big Cats GB):

The setting will be a battle ruined building with an industrial look.  I plan to have the Panther hiding behind the building with the T34 in "sitting duck" position.  The finish for the T34 will be pretty beat up...Man I'm fired up!...so MANY builds so little time (dang that work thingGrumpy [|(])!!!

Ahhh, love that Panther.

Seeing as how I have several other GB's to wrap up before this one (like, ten Shock [:O]), it may be a little while for me as well. Hehehe. I think I'll be shooting to end my build between March 6 and March 16th - the dates of the Battle of Lake Balaton.

If I manage to get her done before then, bonus for me! Big Smile [:D]

How the get started on a GB project.

Step 1.

Set all you goodies up neatly on your nice clean bench, stare at them making gurgling sounds and drooling like Home Simpson looking at a donut and beer lunch.  Then shout real loud... GO... and staring ripping open the boxes. The carnage was to graphic to any other picture after this 1st one.

I gotta get me that kit...have the -1 and -4, but need the -2 and -3. May as well replace those old Italeri's while I'm young. Wink [;)]

WOOHOO...the 1st GB progress report.  That and 7 bucks will get me across the bridgeWink [;)]

Anyway... work has started with the kit suspension being replaced with the Voyager resin/brass set.  This will be fully articulated... providing I don't screw up.

To glue the 2 halves of the tie rods together, sticking them on a toothpick, applying so CA and rotating them together assured perfect alignment.

The kit comes with 8 tires on the right that are 2 halves.  There are also 3 of the left tires.  These are made by stacking 6 parts.  "Painting" the treads with Testor's liquid glue holds 'em together and fills the tiny little spaces making it look like one solid tire.

The kit part and AM parts side by side.  When it is all assembled there the collar, glued ot the end of the axle, does not have anything to support that end.  The pin was cut off the kit axle and glued into the hole on the frame so it just stick out a bit and rounded over.  This gives a pivot for the axle.  Lots of hole to drill and little plastic pins to make. The finished suspension is articulated.

Whoah...fully articulated? Does this mean that you're going to whip up some sort of cool base showing off said feature? Mischief [:-,]

You know, like climbing rubble or something?
