There's always resin. Maybe the 100th anniversary of WWI will help a little. WingNut is doing very nicely with their wonderful biplanes. But I want my 35th scale Reanult tank - it was the mother of all tanks and you've got to be nice to mothers. (Also the 50th anniversary of Vietnam - time does fly.)

Those big gun positions had only a 1" shield, and it may be that by the time of the Battle of the Yalu, these were not in place.

I give up on FreeTime. Canceled my order, and placed an order with Lucky. Hope I'm "lucky".

i assume you are talking about TING YUEN. i don't think it is FREETIME's fault on this. my LHS has had this thing on order since april? SPRUE BROTHERS doesn't list it which means it just isn't available. and my DREADNOUGHT i pre-ordered from DRAGONUSA is shipping today and that has been a couple on months easy.,

Guys, here is one on eBay right now for a very reasonable price of 27.00 bucks with 8.00 bucks shipping. The seller is in Pennsylvania and has good feedback. If I were to be wanting one of these anytime soon I believe I would pick one up from this guy.

For what it's worth White Ensign lists both Ting Yuen and Dreadnought as available. I've bought several items from them and they deliver very fast and their prices are very reasonable. (Prices are listed without VAT too.) Course their web site takes a little getting used to.

I don't mean to hold a referendum on either Lucky or Free Time, and anything from WEM these days is pretty expensive because of the low dollar. Love them though.

I just got confirmation of payment, so I will wait to see if I get a ship date...soon.

Off hand I can't think of a currency that isn't up against the $. At WEM they're selling Dreadnought for $60 even and Ting Yuen for $40. Last time I checked Dragon USA was offering pre-orders on Dread for $90. They've got Zvezda's Borodino & Survorov for about $30 - if you'd dare buy one of them. And shipping is cheap if the weight is low: done a lot of business with White Ensign. Probably not much longer though: Sprue and Scale Hobbyist are starting to carry Euro paints and more PE. Sprue's prices are decent and they ship really fast. (WEM usually does too but you never know about customs.) But it is hard to beat some of the Asian discount places. I've used them a couple of times and things went very well if a little slowly.

Grats bondo, glad to hear it!! As Manny said. feel free to share your thoughts on the kit, its always interesting to hear another modelers perspective.

i just ordered one through them. will keep everyone advised as to shipment process. i think i am looking at 2 weeks but am not in any hurry. will probably start, when i get to these, with one of the cruisers since i have 2 of chih yen and 1 of ching yuen.

Hmmmmmm...maybe enough of ya'll MOJO's bought these things that we should consider a GB?

I don't want anyone to abandon the project because of this, but I've found a place to buy an Emden and a GB would cinch the deal. (Course I already have a Mikasa. Vayag and Oregon but better safe than sorry.) 

RE: Dreadnought. Dragon has just cut the price to $75 and I've seen it for a less in the UK. I don't think that's a bad price for a new 350 scale battleship.

If history counts, the naval changes between 1870 and 1914 were astounding and they triggered the first modern arms race. There was a time when ships launched were known to be already obsolete because of what was on the drawing boards. A young officer could have started a career on something much like Kearsarge and ended it on Texas. (Aviation went through the same type of thing between 1911-1955. From Bleriot to the F-104 in one man's career.)  The real "ground breaker" was HMS Warrior, but the era after the US Civil War is resin only I think. About 1885 things get a little more interesting and within a 20 years you have three major naval wars: Sino-Japanese, Spanish-American, Russo-Japanese. Throw in WWI for some spirited festivities. When you consider how few battleship actions there were in WWII (those that did take place were really closer to slaughters: only Bismarck-Hood and Kirishima-Washington could be counted as engagements) and the degree to which carriers dominated that war, I'd call a GB the "Age of the Big Gun" and run it from 1885-1918. No shortage of big gun fleet actions in that period. Think there'd enough kits to keep us going (especially if the long rumored Revel Olympia is reissued). Who knows, maybe we have more resin fans than we think - tons of kits from the era above.

Has anyone done a Guadalcanal naval GB? Now there you would find kits galore. Even a couple of battleships. But no modern kit of CV-6 - the most astounding omission in model world.

There was a Guadalcanal build in the last few years that Stikpusher ran. I built the CA-38.

The Olympia is released... for $ 100. Not close to worth it.

Okay, so who is in?

I'll do the Glencoe Oregon. It's an ancient kit but if you're to build something that doesn't fit it might as well have 200 parts instead of 500 like Konig. Or Varyag if Oregon is missing a deck or something.

i'm in. not sure what though. waiting on PE for DREADNOUGHT. may do a KONIG klasse since i have 3 of them plus one partial or CHIH YUEN as i have 2 of them or VARYAG as i have 3 of them.

of course the HIKAWA MARU is a definite buy.
