Must have been shipped on the boat with only left handed oars Bondo. I bet if you used Google Earth, you could find that sucker doing circles out in the middle of the Pacific. Did they give you an estimated time of delivery?? Everytime I have ordered from them, it has taken about 2 weeks.

And finish the Emden...

Looks like the batlteship Chen Yuenand Ting Yuen are back in stock at Freetime and it looks like they ordered a bunch of them. Seems there are over 20 in stock, lol. I really think some of these vendors are going to have to start paying Manny commision...

What makes you think I don't have stock in Chinese Injection Moulding operations?

You hear that, Bondo? Quit yer crying and order already...

There are up to five important dates in the history of a ship:

Laid down, launched, commissioned, decommissioned and struck. And variations for civil vessels.

Kind of like the Catholic sacraments, come to think of it, which puts "marriage" in the same category as "decommissioned", but I digress. OBTW I'm RC and up to sacrament #4.

Our group build bracket fits which? Mikasa is still around, although it's been sunk at least once. I vote for launched.

I'm off tomorrow on a slow boat to China. The plan is that we'll pass some huge thing with "YAO MING LINES" painted on it, I'll jump in, swim across and grab my kit.

I vote for launched.

Agree...I might have even indicated so in the original set of rules.

Ships launched between 1-1-1880 and 12-31-1914...

So you are doing two ships?

Just to clarify, is the build is for any ships built in the time frame AS BUILT? For example, the Warspite was launched in 1913 but her WW2 appearance would not count. FWIW, I would keep it to original fit.

I have many books and my Lair smells of rich mahogany!!! Stay thirsty my fellow MOJOs!

Good question.  I'll stick to my original outline and say that as long as it was launched during that timeframe it is allowable.  However, as close to the original fit is preferred if it is outside of the timeframe...

What do you think Bondo?

Yeah, I agree. We all seem to be interested in stuff that's either pre-WW1 or up to Jutland. Not one to impose rules on others, but I'd encourage everyone to show projects that we haven't seen much of.

Open compass platforms, coal smoke and big wireless arrays are cool. So are black hulls, sail rigging.

Well, here goes an update to my Chih Yuen. Its not a big one, but with my limited build time, all I can give are small updates, lol. Got some painting done  on the photoetch that came with the kit. Everything in the photos is just sitting in place, no glue yet as I have a few odds and ends to do to it before it gets glued.

For all of my earlier build pics, please visit my original Chih Yuen thread here. Looking forward to seeing some more WIP pics from the rest of you dudes.

As I said earlier, I'm building Bronco's "Chen Yuen" w/ MK1 wood deck (may sneak in the "Chih Yuen" as well).

With ships, I like to get the base knocked out early. To size the base, I add about-ish 3/8th" to the length and width, compared to the hull. I first cut the length.

Then rip it down on a table saw for the width.

Then on the the router table.

After sanding (320 grit) off the burrs and knocking down the sharp edges, I use "Golden Oak" stain. When the is dry, it'll get a few coats of gloss laquer.

My PC is being a dik, so I have to do multiple posts, so I don't have to retype the whole damm post AGAIN, Bang Head POS Censored

Moving on to securing the model to the base.

I find the center of the hull, and measure out even amounts in both direction, in this case, I went 1 1/2" from center. I drilled small pilot holes, then drilled out the same diameter as the bolts that I'll be using.

After drilling through the hull and center "deck", I center the hull on the base, and drill into the wood. this insures a perfect line-up.

I further open up the inner deck to allow room for the bolts, which are CAed into place.

I use a 1" paddle bit to drill out a recess for the nuts.........hehe, I said nuts!!!

Three brass pressure fittings slip over each bolt for the spindles.

The fittings are removed for the rest of the build, and the bolts make a handy handle while painting.

Tis all for now.
