Fabulous Bish. I can't believe the amount of detail in 1/72 on the Eduard kit! Yes

Time for a short update, mainly been painting this week so that took a bit of time. All the assembly was done soon after the last update. This went together like a dream. I just needed a small bit of filler infront of the canopy, but i think that was more doen to me. I really like how the wings fit especially, no filler at all there.

And then off to the paint booth. After some primer, i used Xtracolor white on the underside and the two blues are Humbrol. I left 2 days between each coat before masking and then finished off with Alclad gloss on top, as the Xtracolor is gloss anyway.

I am just taking a break from adding the decals, so should have that doen tonight and then some detail painting.

The Hellcat is coming up well Bish. It's one of those aircraft that I like well enough to just keep on building. The Eduard one is a massive improvement over the Academy one, which I think was the previous best. Then the Hasegawa...

I finished my Pioneer2 Fokker DXXI last week. It was built according to very strict guidelines for a club build, so a lot of things that I would normally do were excluded. It makes a pretty enough model for the shelf though. If you really want one, I think that Special Hobby had a crack at it...

Cheers

Tony

I'm just taking it one GB at a time.

Very nice work sofar lads.

I have been a tad lazy wrt my builds lately, work deadlines and bitter cold.

On my Zvesda ANT-2 I got the extremely spartan cockpit into the fuse. This kit has no locator pins and the fit of the bottom corigations is poor so trying to sand them to the correct shape will be interesting!

The bottom wing of this plane is so small I wonder why they even bothered to fit it.

Time to call the hellcat done. Really enjoyed building this. A great little kit that built up so well and really nice to do something different and not worry about figures or anythign else.

I got the decals added which were really nice and used some black craft wire for the brake lines.

And to finish off, some very light weathering. I used some flory washes for the panel lines and taniya smoke for exhaust staining. And after a flat coat, some Tamiya black weatehring powder for the gun staining.

This is my last aircraft build of the year, and realy chuffed with how its turned out. Time to get back to some heavy metal and black crosses.

Thnaks for looking and all comments wlecome of course.

That was quick! It does look look a great kit. Where did you get the deck? Nice job on the finish I really need to try some of those Flory washes.

I see the next on you list is your 1946 build.

Thanks Steve. It was a really nice kit to buld, and not worrying about the figures and otehr bits made it a quick one. the deck is from Verlinden. Its a bit sheet, i could get anotehr two this size out of it, really nice and better than the old ones.

And yep, the big Jag is under way.

Hi guys,
There has been some incredible modelling going on here and it looks like there is plenty more coming up. Progress on my Apache has been super slow, I think I looked at too many reference photos and started seeing lots of small issues that I wanted to fix. Turns out that is a slow process! I think I may have bitten off too much for my experience level. If possible, I would like to change my contribution to the group build to an Academy M25 Dragon Wagon. I will finish the Apache, hopefully with all the improvements I have noticed could be included, but at this stage I will enjoy something a bit simpler more. The box art is below.

Hye lads, not a whole lot of progress on my 53, still making "stuff" to go inside the cabin.

That's no problem Dan, Wayne will get you changes when he can get to it.
He has been pretty busy of late with other obligations. The great thing about these GB's is they practically run themselves.
Theuns, looking good.

It’s taking a while and I thought I finished the drilling, grinding, filing and trimming, but the flood holes near the fore torpedo tubes need drilling. I was going to leave them undrilled at first but that was bothering me. I worked so hard on the rest of the limber holes, flood plates and drain holes, I just need to get it done. I also installed some of the PE and still have more to add to the hull including the rest of the flood plates.
I wanted to get something up picture wise so here it is. I’ll probably have the exterior hull done this weekend than on to the torpedo tubes.

An update. I cut out the torpedo flood holes and finished the hull PE then I decided to add a whole lot more work to my build and try some oil canning. This is the first time to try this method and I think it’s turning out alright. Maybe not so deep on the rest of the hull. It’s too late to stop now, but it should add a really nice effect.

Great work tehre Steve. And ye, how do you do that, i have not seen it done on a kit before. I wasn't even sure what you meant by oil canning until i looked at the pics, but i know the effect your going for and its working out really well.

Theuns and Bish,

The oil canning effect was created by using a #22 curving carving blade. I scratched the plastic off until I achieved the result I was looking for. You just have to careful not to scrape off the rivies. It is tedious but believe this method would work well for other ships and the wrinkles found on the skin of planes.

As I said on my post, I won't go as deep on the rest of the hull, but this amount of oil canning on the bow would make sense since the bow takes most of the water pressure as the boat moves forward through the waves. The flat paint should tone down the effect as well.

I managed to wrangle the fuse together but I will have to do allot of filling and sanding on the bottom. Lucky for me I got a new re-scribing river tool so it should be OK.

I am starting to think my odea of folding the rotor and the tail was to optimistic for this kit, I am not sure all that work will add to the overall improvement of the final result. Maybe just build it and move on.
