Thanks Lipton. And thanks din for the Tamiya Buff color paint. I owe you one. Sure, it's quite elementary really to use clay as masks for makin' those nice soft edges. Using Play Doh would be better though.... less oil.

Yeah Shrikes, I really was impressed by your B-17.... and due to that I was encouraged to get me a B-17B from Hobbitoi just this lunch. Smile [:)]

It's really nice work, man. I wish I could do the same for my kids' Zoids... Wink [;)]

Missouri, pre... Haven't started it yet though i've already washed it in dishwashing liquidtoremove the oil. I'll probably weather it a little. Depends on the mood. If it's really dirty, that's the state of my mind... Wink [;)]

QUOTE:
Aircraft enthusiasts,

Do you use your decals for detailing the control panels sa cockpit? Or paint/wash it? What colors do you use? or..gasp...paint each and every dot with a fine point paint brush?

Hi ReggieFrancia,

for me, using decals for 1/72nd aircraft cockpit is ok considering the size of the cockpit. the details are small that it may not be noticeable that decals were used. My 2 cents [2c]

however, for 1/48th and larger scales, it is not 'realistic' to use decals due to its two dimensional properties (flat) (although this was the norm way back when ESCI was still producing kits). knobs and switches and other details at these scales are evident and its better to paint them instead of using decals.

colors to use depend on the type and era of aircraft to be modeled. For example:

1. WW2 USN and USAAF: zinc-chromate green with black instruments and side consoles.
2. WW2 IJN and IJAAF: metalic blue green, bamboo or other green shades depending on manufacturer (mitsubishi, nakajima etc)

no need to paint each and every dot with fine point brush Reggie. you can paint the basic cockpit colors first and drybrush the raised details using white or silver paint to bring out the detail. then maybe you can pick out some knobs and switches in red or yellow etc, depending on the reference you have and aircraft you are building. then apply wash to further emphasize the details and give it a somewhat weathered look.

what kit do you have in mind? Wink [;)]

cheers! Cowboy [C):-)]

Well Reggie, if you are new here ( but the number of posts you have made and your affinity to IPMS-Manila kinda negates a newbie tag for you, I believe),

jepot,

why is it that being a newbie or not is based on his/number of posts? I meant newbie kasi di kita kilala. don't be fooled by the number of posts that i have. mostly sa painting and airbrushing yan.

I see, I see; clarify your point, which you already did; good! but i might even be a more newbie than you are here, but definitely NOT in the hobby. anyway i think i have already expounded enough; follow cbrains intstructions as to the links in another section; itll lead you to your own answers and conclusions.

Good to see you back on the board. Did you have an entry in the BAC Cup? I hear great things about it. Smile [:)] I'm glad it was a success. It'll bring in more modelers to the fold.

Well Reggie, if you are new here ( but the number of posts you have made and your affinity to IPMS-Manila kinda negates a newbie tag for you, I believe), take it from the words itself- HONEST to knowing what is best for all modellers like you, me and the rest, which not only improves ones knowledge, skill, affinity, and personality. I need not overemphasize nor expound further, lest i be accused of flaming; Wink [;)]
Noel, yes you may not personally know me, but we had traded a lot of emails offcially and unoffcially; as a matter of fact i was one of the first to remind you not to downplay Berts death, remember? Oh well, just reminding, you im back; hope you wouldnt mind a fellow Filipino modeller joining your chat again eh pal?Big Smile [:D]
Whistling [:-^]Its better to see more topics now that can help a lot more interested Filipino ( and other) scale modellers like tips, simple advice, reviews, etc., this is a breather compared to earlier threads that were so focused on extolling the virtues ( or whatever) of a particular group of stores and its owner, or using this fora as a recruiting tool; sharing ones knowledge online, for all to see and share in is one of the best ways we can do to help each other grow in the hobby, i believe....My 2 cents [2c]

You know Shrikes, You sound just like a "typical" modeler. Despite evryone saying your work already great, you still can't accept the fact that it really is. Let's face it, we are always too over-critical of ourselves. That is a good thing, though because it allows us to forge ahead and aim for better things. It's when complacency sets in that we deteriorate.

That's one great looking model you have Shrikes! Jun is right, we tend to become perfectionist even if others already look at your work with awe. Wish I can model like you do.Banged Head [banghead]

shrikes,

i guess what's important is that you enjoyed building the kit. and it was a learning experience Blush [:I]. lessons that you can apply on your next kit.

lipton,

if you're looking for 1/48th scale, you can also ask Bull. i think he still has the Monogram 1/48 B-25J (solid nose with guns). a very good kit, considering its age... complete interior details, open bombay doors...

if 1/72nd, you can also check out italeri's B-25. i think it available at lils makati. i'll let you know if it's available at sm mega.

btw, impressive work on your 'foil covered' F-86 sabre! hope to see it at the Nationals Big Smile [:D]

cheers!

Thanks, but I'm really not all that happy with the B-17F... I made too many mistakes for me to be totally satisfied with it. then again, it was a fun build!

Hmmmm.... what scale and B-25 model variant are you wanting to build? I saw a 1/48 Revel/Monogram one in JMNs (top shelf, left side), and I know Accurate Miniatures makes another 1/48 offering (I'd love one of these myself!)... as for 1/72, Hasegawa makes a few.

Here's the aircraft Revell's kit is based on:

sweet! You can use some shiny aluminum foil on it too! Wink [;)]

Sir Noel,

I've sent and paid for my application already to IPMS USA. I think it'll take about two weeks till i rcve my magazine and membership confirmation.

Reggie,

I'm glad. You'll enjoy the magazine. It's cute and very informative - especially about the goings-on within IPMS/USA and beyond.
