ok guys, i need to make my humvee driver. only one problem. i noticed that the kit driver is much smaller than (every other) figure ever made. lol. i know various companies make a driver figure (out of resin) and it appears to "fit" based on the pics i've seen. im worried if i build one it wont actually fit because of the smaller size of the kit driver. even if i go the plastic route and alter say an abrams driver or something. am i making sense? any suggestions? thanks! (i admit i havent tried it yet).

Camo, Just go for it. If needed, you can always CAREFULLY move the driver's seat back. Granted you may not want to do that, but its an option.

The other thing that you could do is to take all the XYZ measurements for the driver's "compartment" in the HMMWV, scratch up a mock-up real quick, say out of styrofoam, and use this during the construction of the figure to make sure that it fits.

If you find that its a tight fit, don't worry about it, so do all the real drivers in Iraq/ Afghanistan!

hmmm...that's a thought. im not sure i can move the seat as its pretty well glued in...Laugh [(-D] but we'll see maybe i wont have 2 do that. what i'd like to do is make him firing his weapon out the window. well...guess i may have 2 try something.

Just IMO ... I think that have the driver covering something outside the veh w/ a weapon is a little unrealistic. Not that it hasn't happened, but in my experiences the driver drives, period. Plus, one thing to think about b/c you've modeled an M1025 is that they have a lot less room inside for the driver than in the good'ol 998 series.

I think that I've pointed this out before, but the driver and the gunner work as a team to maintain the truck as a mobile gun turret. I used to always tell my guys that the truck was build for the turret, not the other way around.

Maybe consider mocking up the driver so that he's pointing at something through the window in the same direction as the gunner is pointing .... as if they're talking about something on the headsets ....

Just a thought ....

hey, chime in anytime stern0. i appreciate the comments. the sniper wasnt like the first one but he still painted ok. some things i would've done differently but whatever. working on my other figs and hopefully will get them done soon. i see it as 1-2 a week and im doing well. i could "mass" paint them but i dont like to do that. may take more time doing one at a time but i get better results because i dont hurry and i can spend quality time per figure!! just me though. just curious guys, do you think i can get away with (now bare with me) a 1/2 figure for my driver? in other words, no one will see him anyway from the waist down so if i just made a torso with arms and a head?? just curious...trying to get ahead of this one only to avoid any headaches...although i just might have to take a pill or something! Hmm ... that's a good possibility actually. I'd mock it up and check it out. At the very least, you'd have to add some legs down to the knees ... THAT, I know you could get away with.

If you can get by w/o the legs, just add a piece of wire to the bottom of the torso so that you get the right height "sitting" in the seat.

hey grimmo! havent heard from ya in awhile. i am using the verlinden set. was going to use the warrior's set because i liked their poses/clothes better but the cost ultimately decided that fate! so, it will work for what i need! was going to use both of them but after placing them around my dio, i am thinking more of just using one of them. i think it will still get the point across and set the mood! the dead one's that is. will be using another set for the balcony.

chris, yeah, i suppose we could...seems to be working out that way. im hoping i can pull this off without having to change the title. not that it matters in the long run. the lack of shooting soldiers may make it difficult but i wont know until i get everything how i want it! hmmm...

well guys. today i actually did something. i painted my dead insurgent. looked pretty good. did it all in oils. blended highlights, blah blah blah. final thing left to do was to paint the jacket. so i went and painted it black like the box art. only problem is i painted his shirt white. so in the end it looked more like a dead fonzy then a dead iraqi insurgent. Laugh [(-D]Laugh [(-D]. used alot of mineral spirits this evening to remove all the paint!!!!!!!! got it all off except his sandles had already dried. fine...they can be "touched up" anyway. all that work today for nothing! im going back tomorrow to redo it and screw the oils (except for the flesh) going back to my humbrols. dont ask me why i did it the way i did...more experimenting than anything else. only trouble is i really like the results...that is until fonzy showed up. Whistling [:-^] alright c'mon guys let me have it....lay the jokes on me....oh boy cant wait!! Sigh [sigh] all i can do is laugh at times like these! Dunce [D)]

i dont care anymore if they're clothing is black/white/green or gold!!! im making it to my liking and if that means they'd get heat stroke or whatever...so be it...doesnt matter anyway the guys dead! Laugh [(-D]
