Camo, not sure that HL is going to be to your taste ... they don't carry Humbrol paints ... Still, they are pretty decent with some of there modeling supplies. Especially b/c they have decent "sales" on certain things in the store, to include their modeling supplies, with 30-50% savings. Last time I was in my local HL they had 30% off on models. Not too bad if you're into what they carry.

However, I actually have a REAL modeling question for you .... I've decided to scratch my own building for my BoM build. I was wondering if you had any under construction pics of your building? I've never scratched a building before and it would be nice to see how you started and finished your's.

I feel your pain on the LHS issue. My nearest is about a 20 minute drive into down town. However, I'm still jealous that you're within driving distance to Mich. Toy.

yeah...you'd probably get lost in there (mich. toy) they have some nice stuff...10 years ago i would've spent a fortune in there (not sure when they opened). i dont have any pics of my building in the "building" stages but i will definately help ANY way i can. see alot of what i did was so "on a whim" that i just started it by cutting some pieces of styrene then almost building it like "lego's"...kinda piece by piece. however, this would be a good chance to "improve" the things i "should've" done with mine by you building yours!!!!

lets see, to start off, i cut out the lower piece, "ground level" (garage door area, wall etc.). obviously made a "roof" over that" then cut out my front "facia". i purposely left the balcony's off and made them up last...although it might have been more wise to just make them one piece instead. attached both sides of my walls. again upon further "review" i would've made the building "whole" instead of partial but whatever. even thought of scratching rooms etc with the windows open...however...lol...just think were i'd only be had i done that! Whistling [:-^]. the roof was added on then the "support posts". again here i would've made the posts 1 solid piece (or max 2) for stronger support. its 3 right now! if you go back to the 2nd page of this thread to see my pics you'll get a clearer understanding of it. the area around the garage door and on the roof (the "high spots") are the same as the support posts. i bought a bunch of 3/16 and 1/4 inch square evergreen/plastruct pieces. come in about 6" lengths or so...although the evergreen come in like 12". i used alot of those (which u cant see) on the "inside" of the building for "support and strength"! think of a real building...they need steel beams first during the contruction. by using the sq. pieces in all the corners they also form a strong joint (thing's built like a brick %$#%#%-house).

anyway, it wasnt really expensive...all they styrene...maybe $20 tops. i also used .060 thk styrene for the walls. a little hard to cut but not too bad! again by the time i was done nothing on that thing would break because of how "solid" it was! here are a couple of pics from behind my building...dont laugh... Big Smile [:D]

here u can see what i mean by me gluing the 1/4 sq. posts together then glueing a piece of styrene to the front to be the "wall"!

this other pic just shows you what's behind door number 1 and door number 2 Laugh [(-D]

i also airbrush my name and year to all my builds...sorta the whole artist thing! any other help...let me know i will do all i can for ya!!

Thanks Camo. The behind the scenes pics do help. Really the only difference btwn our builds here is that I'm attaching a helo to the top of it ... but not directly. I'll be just getting ready to hover.

I'll definately be taking your advice into consideration. I'll go into what I thinking/ planning on doing under my thread. Thanks again for your help.

thanks as always grimmo. Big Smile [:D] cant wait to see yours!

well chris, i was hoping to inspire scott with his building ideas. this was my first attempt (and while i have taken a few architectural classes) i wanted him to see how easy it really is. however, i really do understand his hesitation!! as far as my seal, no big deal. i missed a few things during my rush to get it out there but whatever...its done and on the shelf!! Man you guys talk (write) a lot!
But that's good, it made me dizzy but there's a lot of info.

That dio of yours, CJ, will be awesome. I suppose you have enough room to place it!

The work so far is amazing. The detail of the broken bottle says it all.

thanks avus. appreciate your comments. i dont in ANY way consider myself to do amazing work...but the guys here are trying to convince me otherwise...but im my worst critic!! we do tend to "talk" alot. was thinking in the end rather than having everyone click on the last page that i would start a new thread...we'll see. there is alot of info...and im hoping we are helping someone out there in t.v. land! just curious because im not sure what your saying...what do u mean i will have enough room to place it? again just curious. Wink [;)] if you've been following this, i really appreciate yours and eveyone else's patience with me...im working on it...really! Whistling [:-^]

I agree that we all (ok, mostly me, camo, and psst when he's not out doing whatever) chat a lot. Most has nothing to do with modeling, but then again, there are also a lot of modeling topics discussed. I for one will admit that I am now a MUCH better modeller b/c of those two ... as well as everyone else that has helped me out.

Camo, I think what Avus was trying to say was that its a big dio, and he hopes you've got room for it. That's all.

Just convince you wife that its the new dining room table center piece!

hey...you think she'll go for that?? (the center piece idea)? Propeller [8-] i agree we are better at what we do thanks to each other...besides where else or perhaps who else would give us this much attention on our projects??? beats just getting a good job or whatever...at least we can learn from each other on a more (word only) "intimate" level!

ok...good to know (clearer) what avus was trying to say. didnt take offense to it or anything...just wasnt sure! Big Smile [:D] besides it "looks" bigger than it really is...i think its only about 15-18" tall. no bigger than some old gi joes...almost! Tongue [:P]

Hey- just saying hi, popping in real quick before I'm off to wherever land hahaha Big Smile [:D]

Just got back from Transformers 2... sat in the front row, and from what I could tell with all the robot battle blur, it was a pretty good movie. Anyhoo, back off to ...not modeling Boohoo [BH] the only progress I've been making hasn't even been worth the digital image file- and you guys know I update at every twist and turn (regardless of how far in between lol)

Works taking too much out of me, I don't have the drive to sit down and go to town at my bench, just flop infront of the TV, which drains me even more and I go to bed. I got a cold/nasal allergy thing maybe, hope I get back to it soon!

Keep sticking with it camo Thumbs Up [tup]

MC got it! I was only wondering where you'd place it.
That table center idea isn't bad at all!

I was telling MC that I had the idea of making a HUGE 1/35 Black Hawk Down dio with a Black hawk, Little Birds, Hummers and plenty of figures. But I guess that due to space issues I only have two options, scale the whole thing down to 1/72 or win the lottery and get a new house!

I'm afraid you guys are starting to get me involved in that "talk-a-lot" thing!

that's ok avus. your welcome to be a part of this! Big Smile [:D] as far as where i'd place tis thing when finished...i've got some shelf space for it. seems like a shame to build something and just put it "away" but whatever. so i get u on the size of it all...and that idea of yours seems like you'd need a whole new house just to fit something like that in it....but i cant say i wouldnt love to see it! as far as us talking im sure that even the paople in the forum are like would you guys just shut up!!! 10 pages on this thread and maybe 3 are of this stupid dio! Laugh [(-D] oh well, we're all friends here. Big Smile [:D]

finally...i know, an update! here is my nwm sniper. didnt put a scope on his rifle although i thought about it. but i suppose if he's that good of one the iron sights will work!! Laugh [(-D] anyway, was also gonna camo his rifle but with the hands molded on, and i dont know about you, i paint them first...just thought it would've been more trouble than it was worth! this guy though, painted well, but i didnt get the same feel like the first one. also, when you removed some of the carriers they left "holes" in his arm, etc. so, while he's molded nice, he's still not as nice as the saw gunner! enjoy the pics! more to follow soon! Camo,

That fig looks good brother. And don't worry about not adding the scope. A lot of guys in urban areas either just used the M68 (red dot) or the ACOG scope on their marksman rifles. I used an ACOG on my M14. Even if you decided later on to add something, it would be as easy as scratching one from tubing or even styrene rod, painting it, and then gluing it.

One more down .... how many to go!?!

thanks model. not too worried about the scope. since he isnt even aiming it...not really a big deal! as far as how many more...i have 2 more infantry, one gunner on the humvee and the driver. after that i have my two dead insurgent then two more live ones! so six more figures! that's what...one per week so six weeks! Laugh [(-D] no, not if i can help it...although, i am going for a few more days to the inlaws for the fourth! i should have a couple done b4 next friday...hmmm...!

Looks great!! Nice job camo, love the wood color, very natural feel, I like the "stain", this guy looks like his box, a red dot scope wouldn't be too bad- but yeah, nothing wrong with the iron sights in an tight, urban environment- my buddy shoots comp.s with an AR's iron sights out to 100+yards and gets it in the little inch group thinger, so house to house- why not!

Good looking figure!
I particularly like the red tint of the goggles; it's differen fro the "usual" glossy black.

Looking forward to see more pictures.

you'll get there grimmo. believe me sometimes it just takes awhile...remember i started this build back in january...its now july!!! the good thing is my figures are coming along. speaking of figures, i really wanted a cmk humvee crew set but one, wasnt ready to spend nearly $40-$50 to get them two, they were always out of stock anyway. so, i built my own casting pieces of other resin figures i have...so i have a resin humvee gunner anyway that looks like the cmk figure and it didnt cost me a dime other than the money spent on resin and molding rubber that i bought awhile ago! now to make a driver!

thank you avus for the comps as always. i also liked the way the red tint in the goggles came out. your right too you dont see that too often...just like some have an orange tint and some have a green tint...but again very rarely seen! (though i have in some pics). i used tamiya (yes acrylic scott Mischief [:-,]) clear red the put a coat of future over it. the tamiya clear left brush strokes on the lenses...but that's y i love future...it filled those and made it look like it does!!

thanks again guys for posting and i will post somemore with more figures here soon. will be gone 2-morrow thru at least sunday but i will take some of my figures with me!! more to follow soon!
